RESEARCH PROPOSAL

1. Introduction
Evaluating mineral resources recently has been paid attention too much by
Vietnamese scientists while the studies on it under a geologists point of view are
very limited by dint of the lack of experience and modern equipments.
When I was a student at the Ha Noi University of Mining and Geology
directed by my professors, I have nurtured a dream to become a first leading expert
in the economic geology field. Taking part in the student scientific research in the
4
th
year undergraduate was the first step of my plan conquering the dream. My
research topic was "Characteristics of copper ore in Malypho district, Lai Chau
provide, Viet Nam" and the results were the determination of hydrothermal origin
of copper ore in Malypho area under a range of temperature from average to lower.
However, I am not satisfied with these results by virtue of the insignificant
knowledge and poor analytical methods in Vietnam which lead to the limitation of
this study objects only focusing on the substantial components of ore materials. I
recognize that it is necessary to be studied deeper and wider on this issue,
especially on evaluating ore potential, origin and formation.
2. Objective
Minerals are main objects of this study focusing on mineral deposits, ore
points, and mineralization zones. In addition, the study on the related geological
formations and tectonic regime in the area also are implemented in this research to
illustrate the origin of ore deposit.

3. Methodology
(1) Study on Fluid inclusions
To determine the origin, genesis of hydrothermal mineral deposits including
salinity, dissolved substances and isotopes. Furthermore, to figure out the sources
of generator and direction of movement of hydrothermal fluids, pressure and
temperature of ore gangue assemblages, and mechanisms of ore gangue
precipitation (mixing, boiling fluids or cooling).
(2) Study on distribution of trace elements
The trace elements distributions in rocks are useful in determining their
petrogenesis and discriminating between ore-associated barren rocks and others as
well as recognizing ancient hydrothermal systems. Determining the environment
in which the host rocks and formed nearby rocks shows the derivation of ores,
especially for syngenetic deposits.
(3) I ntergrated study on stable isotopes, geology, mineralogy and
geochemistry.
To assess and determine the mineralization process as a following:
a) Formation temperatures of ore and gangue mineral using stable isotopic
geothermometry.
b) Origin and evolution of fluids forming ore
c) Characteristics of fluids forming ore;
d) Sulfur and Carbon sources.
e) Mechanisms of ore precipitation.
