Two new lines cater for every requirement
Bosch eBike Systems presents new generation of its
eBike system

Active and Performance Line complement the proven Classic+ system
Optimized sensor concept and practical extras

Stuttgart/Reutlingen Bosch eBike Systems is launching a new drive
system at this years Eurobike. The Reutlingen-based European market
leader will exhibit two new product lines at the leading bicycle trade fair in
Friedrichshafen: the Performance Line for sportive, powerful cycling and
the Active Line that provides assistance coordinated and metered in an
especially harmonious manner. With these two lines we can adress the
different requirements of eBikers from sportive to leisure cyclists even
better, says Claus Fleischer, head of the Bosch eBike Systems product
division. Both new lines feature an optimised sensor concept for quiet,
vibration-free propulsion and an ideal coordination of components for
optimised ranges. The Active Line and the Performance Line are
characterised by a uniform design language. It is, however, implemented to
match the focus of the product line in question: powerful and sportive in
anthracite for the Performance Line and discreetly harmonious in a
platinum shade for the Active Line. Bosch won this years Red Dot product
award for the design. The new lines complement the approved and tested
Classic+ Bosch eBike system that will continue to be available in the
market.

Performance Line for powerful, sportive cycling
The Bosch system for the new Performance Line is designed for sportive,
powerful cycling both when accelerating in hilly terrain and when cycling in
lowland country. In every terrain it opens up entirely new possibilities for
sporting and everyday cycling. The Performance Line is available with
either the 25 km/h Cruise unit or the faster 45 km/h Speed drive unit. The
PowerPack 300 or the more powerful PowerPack 400 are available frame-
mounted. The PowerPack 400 is also available as a rear carrier battery. The
PI8197

Intuvia Performance in anthracite is the right on-board computer specially
designed for the Performance Line. The Performance Line truly lives up to
its name. It is our most dynamic and powerful drive unit, Claus Fleischer
says. That is reflected with the young and sportive design of the anthracite-
coloured components. In keeping with its design and performance, a wide
range of sports models such as mountain or trekking eBikes can make
optimal use of the Bosch Performance Line.

Elegant Active Line for harmoniously metered assistance
The Active Line provides especially harmoniously metered power
assistance. Its motor is the Cruise drive unit, optionally available with a
back pedal brake function. The PowerPack 300 and the PowerPack 400 are
available either frame-mounted or mounted on the carrier. The Active
Lines on-board computer is the Intuvia Active. All components come in a
discreet platinum and black. The Active Line with its focus on a moderate,
easy-to-use drive provides perfectly metered assistance, Claus Fleischer
says. It enables cyclists to cover longer distances and to enjoy greater day-
by-day mobility with assistance on demand. The Active Line is ideally suited
for leisure eBikers, for shopping or a Sunday cycling tour on a city or a
touring eBike.

Optimized drive system for both new lines
In the optimised Bosch eBike system for both new lines the three-sensor
concept has been developed further yet again. In the new-generation
system speed, power and acceleration are measured in even greater detail,
more precisely and more frequently 1,000 times per second. That leads
to a reliable and at the same time sensitive recognition of the cyclists
intentions based on the measurement of pedal power as an input
parameter for motor control. Swift processing of sensor signals and
precise motor control also ensure quiet and vibration-free propulsion.

A smaller chain wheel with fewer teeth improves the guiding of the chain in
the event of, for example, powerful shocks in off-road terrain. That ensures
safe chain running. A new gearing layout optimises ground clearance and a
flexible installation angle enables the drive unit to be integrated better into
the eBikes design. The narrow drive unit makes a smaller pedal distance
possible and thereby makes cycling more ergonomic and more pleasant.

In the Performance and the Active Line torque is reduced and increased
again at precisely the right moment when changing gear, making the
change smoother. That eases the stress on components and reduces wear
and tear.
PI8197

Optimized range and practical extras
Thanks to perfectly matching components and their highly efficient
interaction the Active Lines new drive system makes optimised ranges
possible. In the powerful Performance Line fine-tuning of components
strikes an ideal balance between performance and range. And for both new
lines the PowerPack 300 and PowerPack 400 are the batteries with the
highest and unrivalled power density. They are now even easier to fit or
remove and can be recharged while still on the bike. A special charging
socket with a cover ensures the greatest possible degree of safety during
charging. The charger is compact and low-weight. Including its cables it
weighs less than 800 grams. The improved charging plug and a practical
velcro fastener for sorting the cables make handling easier. The new
charger was designed without ventilation slots, thereby keeping dirt at bay
and making the unit even more robust.

Intuvia boasts a new design
The Intuvia on-board computer comes in a new design to match the line
in anthracite for the Performance Line and platinum for the Active Line.
The Intuvia Performance and Intuvia Active also facilitate high-precision
distance measurement. The eBiker can fine-tune his wheel circumference
by the push of a button and a USB port can be used to load third-party
hardware such as smartphones and MP3 players.

An eBike all-rounder
Bosch opens door to connected eBike world with
new Nyon on-board computer

First all-in-one on-board eBike computer with integrated navigation and
fitness function plus smartphone connection and online portal
Nyon enables eBike assistance to be set individually

Stuttgart/Reutlingen With Nyon Bosch eBike Systems is striking out in a
new direction. At Eurobike 2013 the company is presenting the first
multifunctional on-board eBike computer. Nyon is an all-in-one eBike
control, navigation system and fitness trainer device and even performs
smartphone functions. It can be used to read text messages from a
smartphone on the eBike or to remote control the mobile phones music
player. This is the first time an on-board eBike device has provided many
useful functions that only several individual devices can otherwise offer,
says Claus Fleischer, Head of the Bosch eBike Systems product division.
Nyon also offers on a brilliant 4.3-inch colour display a convincing graphic
environment that is both customisable and easy to use. Its modern design
won it this years Red Dot Award for product design. From Spring 2014
several bicycle brands will offer Bosch Performance Line eBikes with Nyon.
From the 2015 model year this modern on-board computer will be available
with many other eBikes.

Bosch eBike Ride: Uniform yet entirely individual
With Nyon you can check your elevation profile and battery range, set your
assistance level and view the route to take you back home all on one
device. You decide which information is shown on the screen and where.
You can set your own favourite screen in addition to the so-called Ride
screen by using the Bosch app on your smartphone. You can also set the
eBike motors assistance models to suit you. So the new on-board
computer enables eBikers for the first time to fine-tune the motor
comfortably for their individual needs.
PI8235

The 4.3-inch Nyon display is easy to read in all light conditions due to its
transreflective technology. Intuitive to use, it is remote-controlled from the
handlebars. On the road, eBikers keep their smartphones safely and
comfortably in their pockets, connected to Nyon by Bluetooth as required.
The mobile phones music player can be remote controlled from the unit on
the handlebars. Calls and messages are shown on the Nyon display. Texts
can even be read on the display when the bike is stationary. When it is on
the move this function is disabled for safetys sake.

Bosch eBike Navigation: A new take on navigation
Nyons navigation system is specially designed for the eBike with bicycle-
optimised route calculation based on the Wiki Open Street Map (OSM).
The GPS with Moving Map in 2D and 3D calculates the best eBike route. An
optional extra is a smart remaining range calculator. Instead of a distance
in kilometres environmental conditions such as topography and cycling
behaviour are taken into account and the remaining range is shown clearly
and comprehensibly on a map. Bosch eBike Systems collaborates with Web
and app developers in developing Nyon functions, so Nyon users benefit,
for example, from the bundled competence of Bosch eBike app experts
and the navigation developer Skobbler.

Bosch eBike Fitness: Training with Nyon
Connect heart rate chest straps to Nyon by Bluetooth and it becomes a
fitness and training control centre. Heart rate and pedalling cadence,
cycling performance, calorie consumption and training efficiency are shown
graphically on the display. En route and afterward, you can follow activities
and training progress on the Bosch Online Portal and share them with
others. We are working on more apps and functions, both free and paid,
says Claus Fleischer. This is the beginning of a multifunctional, connected
Bosch eBike world.

Bosch maintains tailwind momentum
Growth in Europe to extend market leadership

Even stronger focus on Italy, France and the UK
First eBike brands adopt Bosch drive system for US market

Stuttgart/Reutlingen Bosch eBike Systems continues to bank on
sustainable, healthy growth in Europe. eBikes are maintaining their
momentum all over Europe. We would like to share in this trend and, of
course, continue to play an active part in it, says Claus Fleischer, Head of
the Bosch eBike Systems product division. In 2012 more than 1.1 million
eBikes were sold in Europe. More and more target groups are coming to
appreciate the benefits and extensive opportunities of power-assisted
cycling, Fleischer says. That is why we aim to open up new markets and
expand existing ones. In addition to its core markets Germany, Austria,
Switzerland and the Netherlands, Bosch is now focusing increasingly on
Italy, the UK, France and Scandinavia. Bosch eBike Systems is already the
European market leader for eBike drive systems, with over 50 bicycle
brands relying on technology provided by the Reutlingen-based specialists,
and this position is to be extended in Europe. In the United States, in
contrast, a market for eBikes has yet to be developed and established,
Fleischer says. From 2014 a number of bicycle manufacturers will be
setting their sights on the US market, launching a Bosch drive system for
eBikes in the States.

Bosch drive system for the US market
In future, Bosch eBike Systems will supply its customers with products
specially developed for the US market. From Q1 2014 the Accell Groups
Haibike brand, BH Bikes Easy Motion, Cycle Unions Kreidler brand and
Felt and Cannondale eBikes will be on sale in the US with the Bosch drive
system. There will be Performance Line models with an Intuvia
Performance on-board computer and a PowerPack 400 frame-mounted
battery. The drive unit will assist eBikers up to speeds of 20 mph. Our
PI8257

customers have increasingly requested a drive system designed specially
for the United States. From 2014 they can offer one in the already known
Bosch quality and corresponding service to dealers in the US market,
Fleischer says.

Expansion in Europe
100,000 eBikes have been sold in the United States, but well over a million
have been sold in Western Europe, and this difference is reflected in
Boschs priorities. The company continues to see Germany, Austria,
Switzerland and the Netherlands as its home market, but with eBikes
growing in popularity in Italy, the UK, France and Scandinavia, Bosch eBike
Systems is focussing increasingly on these markets. We are aware of the
eBike trend in these countries and feel that with our product portfolio we
are in a good position to achieve lasting success there too, Fleischer says.
Bosch would like to extend and consolidate its market leadership by means
of further growth in Europe. With innovative products, a focus on quality
and performance and competent service for cycle retailers Bosch feels it is
equipped for long-term success. Bosch stands for a strong brand and we
are working to continue to do justice to this claim all over the world,
Claus Fleischer says.

Bosch eBike Systems extends service network
Market expansion goes hand in hand with extension
of service

A further 100 Bosch eBike experts to be certified in 2013
First certified specialist dealers in eBikes with Bosch drive system in
Benelux, Austria and Switzerland

Stuttgart/Reutlingen Bosch eBike Systems is certifying a further 100 cy-
cle dealers as Bosch eBike experts this year in Germany and, for the first
time, in Benelux, Austria and Switzerland. That will take the number of
dealers certified as specialists in eBikes with a Bosch tailwind to 237. The
characteristics they share include a high level of service orientation and
many years of professional experience. Our experience with Bosch eBike
experts in Germany has been very good, says Claus Fleischer, Head of the
Bosch eBike Systems product division. That is why we are now extending
the concept to other markets. Good service provided by dealers is a deci-
sive plus for ends customers. Dealers offer advice not only on which bike
to buy but also on subjects such as how best to handle the drive system
and battery to ensure the highest level of safety and lasting pleasure with
the eBike. As trade contacts Bosch relies on prestigious service partners
like Magura, Fuchs-Movesa or Shimano and on its own expert advisers.
That is also to be the case in new markets.

Best service for top quality
At present there are 137 Bosch eBike experts in Germany. They are select-
ed on the basis of a catalogue of criteria that include the size and location
of the store, the number of eBike brands on offer, the opening hours and
the presence of a master bicycle mechanic. Dealers must also have many
years of professional experience and a particularly high level of service ori-
entation, must have attended detailed Bosch training courses and be able
to offer potential eBike buyers extensive test runs. The advantages are self-
evident. Before they buy, customers receive comprehensive advice from
PI8245

Bosch eBike experts, and after buying they have a trained and reliable con-
tact who can help fast if questions or problems arise. Certified experts
can, for example, use diagnostic software to give eBike batteries a fitness
test. The number of charging cycles can be checked and noted in a profes-
sional diagnostic report. The experts can also give eBikers comprehensive
training in how to handle the battery safely and correctly. We attach just
as much importance to the quality and safety of our eBike drive systems as
we do to the enjoyment of cycling, says Claus Fleischer. Quality and safety
are ensured not only by standards in the development and manufacture of
Bosch eBike Systems; dealers also contribute to both by advising and train-
ing eBikers. Customers can check on the Bosch website which cycle deal-
ers are Bosch eBike experts.

Service partners across Europe
Bosch service partners in individual markets are there to ensure that deal-
ers can offer their customers optimal service. They assist European cycle
dealers from handling guarantee claims and organising training sessions to
providing technical support. For the Benelux countries Bosch eBike Sys-
tems has enlisted the support of Shimano and for Switzerland that of
Fuchs-Movesa, while Magura is responsible for the rest of Europe. We rely
deliberately on our service partners because they combine a strong region-
al presence and a high level of logistical and technical competence, says
Claudia Wasko, who is in charge of Sales and Service at Bosch eBike Sys-
tems. They can use existing distribution channels and relationships with
dealers, thereby achieving synergy effects for all concerned. Cycle dealers
benefit from the partnership in the form of significantly shorter processing
times and simpler logistics in, say, guarantee cases or battery returns. The
structure works superbly with our service partners. That is why we will be
extending it in the course of our market expansion, Claudia Wasko adds.
Bosch also provides dealers with its online dealers portal for booking
training courses and training videos, for example, and relies on its regional
presence. A team of five Bosch employees is at hand to assist eBike deal-
ers on all matters in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
They maintain constant personal contact with the dealers.

Market leader Bosch eBike Systems in profile
Bosch tailwind makes further headway

Over 50 European bicycle brands already rely on the Bosch eBike-
System
Different drive systems for every requirement and every type of bicycle

Stuttgart/Reutlingen Bosch eBike Systems is the European market leader
for eBike systems. The electronic tailwind on which over 50 leading
European bicycle brands rely is powered by components that Bosch eBike
Systems has taken to perfection. The Bosch portfolio ranges from the
powerful drive units (motor and transmission) and high-quality batteries to
smart and intuitive on-board and bicycle computers. Perfect coordination
of components holds the key to Boschs unique comfort and performance.
The three product lines Classic+, Active Line and Performance Line provide
the right drive system for all requirements from those of the leisure
cyclist to those of the performance-oriented sporting cyclist. They are to be
found in all categories of bicycle: from the comfortable city bike to the
sportive mountain bike.

In just four years Bosch eBike Systems has developed from a market
newcomer to the pace setter for drive systems. Its success story began in
2009 with a handful of employees from development and sales and experts
in batteries, motors and electronics. The initial focus was on technological
product and system development. Bosch first presented itself and the
newly developed drive system for eBikes at Eurobike in the summer of
2010. Series production of the Cruise drive unit got under way in spring
2011. That autumn Bosch launched the Speed drive unit for additional
support up to 45 km/h. A year later, in 2012, when Bosch unveiled the new
Intuvia on-board computer and the more powerful PowerPack 400 battery
at the leading bicycle trade fair in Friedrichshafen, more than 40 bicycle
brands used Bosch eBike systems. Bosch eBike Systems is now the market
leader in Germany and Europe, and over 50 brands used the Bosch system
in their bikes. In 2013 Bosch is presenting at Eurobike the second
PI8236

generation of its drive system in two new product lines: the Performance
Line for dynamic and powerful cycling fulfils the requirements of sportive
cyclists. The Active Line is characterised by especially harmonious, fine-
tuned and well-dosed assistance for touring and leisure eBikers. Another
trade fair premiere is that of Nyon, the first on-board eBike computer with
built-in navigation and fitness functions and a smartphone connection. En
route and after the trip activities and progress can be followed on the
Bosch online portal and shared with others. Bosch is thereby opening the
door to a connected eBike world.

The Bosch eBike system is planned, developed and marketed from the
Reutlingen head office of the product division, which is a business unit of
Bosch Automotive Electronics. Our employees develop unique and
beneficial eMobility solutions, says Claus Fleischer, head of the Bosch
eBike Systems product division. They put their heart and soul into a
future-oriented eBike world and make an important contribution toward
tomorrows mobility.

Bosch eBike Systems would love to delight cyclists with its products and
solutions and is already thinking today in terms of the opportunities that a
networked world will offer tomorrow. Mobility has always been a key issue
at Bosch. That is why eMobility activities are a logical step for Bosch. The
product division makes use of the Bosch Groups technological, production
and marketing expertise and bundles this know-how under one roof.
