Epic Failure: Americas
Muslim Outreach
BY STEPHEN FLURRY
T
uvii vi.vs ago, President Barack Obama set out to
redene Americas relationship with the Muslim
world. It was hailed as a new beginninga chance
to remove the wedge President Bush and others
had driven between the United States and Islam.
Instead, this new approach of reaching out
to Islam has proved to be a spectacular failure.
Afer President Obamas :oo Cairo speech
in which the president defended instead of
condemned Irans nuclear pursuits and failed
to even mention terrorism, my father boldly
predicted what the end result of this pacist
approach would be: President Obama
thinks that through his words, he will
have peace with Iran. But afer the
terrorists heard that speech, they
had to be rejoicing! When Americas
president gives a speech like that,

were seriously wounded.
Te attack on the leaderships inner
sanctum as ghting raged in sections
of the city for the fourth day suggested
that the uprising had reached a deci-
sive moment in the overall struggle
for Syria. Te battle for the capital, the
center of Assad family power, appears
to have begun.
In Washington, Defense Secretary
Leon E. Panetta said that Syria is
rapidly spinning out of control, and
warned Mr. Assads government to
safeguard its large stockpile of chemical
weapons. Its obvious what is happen-
ing in Syria is a real escalation, he said
at a joint news conference with the Brit-
ish defense minister, Philip Hammond.
Te impact of the days events
reverberated on multiple levels, pierc-
ing the psychological advantage that
Mr. Assads superior military strength
has provided in preserving the loyalty
of his forces and frightening much of
the public into staying home. With the
opposition energized and the govern-
ment demoralized, analysts wondered if
other military units and trusted lieuten-
ants would be more inclined to switch
sidesand if the government would
retaliate with an escalation of violence.

lightly armed opposition force could

T
isio is rising in the Middle East
again. Te civil war in Syria is
worsening, Western sanctions on Iran
are intensifying, large-scale military
exercises by both Tehran and the West
are on the cards. Tis is all worrying
and cause for alarm. Yet, it is an un-
precedented, largely ignored national
address by Irans supreme leader that is most alarming.
On Friday, July o, a number of Iranian state-run media
outlets ran stories highlighting remarks by Ayatollah Ali
Khamenei. In his address, Khamenei warned his people
all over the world that Iran must prepare for war, and that
we are now living in the end of times. More specically,
Khamenei warned of the imminent return of the Mahdi,
or the ::th imam. Te issue of Imam Mahdi is of utmost
importance, and his reappearance has been clearly stated
in our holy religion of Islam, he said. We must study and
remind ourselves of the end of times and Imam Mahdis
era. Wi mUs1 vviv.vi 1ui ivivomi1 vov 1ui
comiu so 1u.1 1ui uvi.1 ii.uiv wiii comi.
Te belief of a returning Mahdi, or ::th imam, is a den-
ing doctrine within the most populous group of Shiites
known as Ithna Ashari, or Twelvers. In addition to Irans
supreme leader, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also
belongs to this inuential group. According to Twelver
theology, the Mahdis return will be precipitated by planet-
engulng wars, the likes of which will destroy one third
of the worlds population, and another third as a result of
widespread hunger, disease and social unrest. Finally, the
destruction will be capped with the annihilation of the
Jewish state and the killing of all indels, afer which the
seed of Islam will be planted in the four corners of the
Earth.
Here in the West, most people mistakenly ignore this
theology and the depth of commitment Khamenei, Ah-
madinejad and their followers have to it. Tis is to our
own peril. Twelvers dont just believe the Mahdi will soon
return: Tey consider it a personal responsibility to create
the apocalyptic conditions that will surround his return.
Frankly, ushering in the Mahdi is the guiding principle
of Irans foreign policy!
As Joel Rosenburg, former aide to Benjamin Netanyahu,
put it, [I]n order to bring about this Islamic messiah, the
Mahdi, the ::th imam, Islamic leaders need to hasten his
coming by destroying little Satan, Israel, and the great Sa-
tan, the United States. [T]he leaders actually believe they
need to create bloody carnage, the death of millions of people
in order to create the conditions for the Mahdi to bring
peace (emphasis added throughout). Indeed, as Khamenei
recently told his people: We must prepare for the coming.
Since we consider ourselves the warriors of the ::th imam,
we must ght.
Citing Iranian news media, the Journal of Turkish
Weekly last week reported that the regime in Tehran is even
distributing a booklet titled Te Last Six Months. Accord-
ing to Reza Kahlili (a pseudonym for a former ci. opera-
tive in Irans Revolutionary Guards), the material admon-
ishes the Revolutionary Guards and the Basij paramilitary
forces that they must be prepared to do their duties during
the expected war.
When you read these statements, you begin to grasp
exactly what is at stake right now in the Middle East. Sadly,
too few are paying any attention to these facts.

,Us1 nine days the Olympics in
London will commence with a now
shorter than planned opening ceremo-
ny, a questionable representation from
those chosen to secure the Games and
growing public disquiet over the hard-
line sponsorship rights which restrict
local sellers from serving chips (only
the McDonalds overlords may sell you
potato-based goods!).
But these serious and less serious
faux pas aside, a new shame for Brit-
ain now rears its ugly headand one
with potentially catastrophic diplo-
matic ramications.
On perusing the vvc Sport website,
Te Commentator was disgusted to
see the inherent anti-Israel bias shine
through even when it comes to some-
thing as trivial as country proles on
their Olympics website.
Every other nation represented on
the vvc website has a prole of the
country which lists Key Facts. For
instance, Djiboutis top medal sport is
athletics, its population is 8,,:oo and
its capital is Djibouti. In case you were
unsure, Iranians are good at wrestling,
their capital is Tehran and there are
just over ,, million people living there.
But if youre interested in the State
of Israel, youll have a hard time
obtaining a certain bit of informa-
tion from the vvc website. Sure, Israel
shines at sailing and judo (no Mavi
Marmara or iuv jokes, please), and it
has a population of ,., million. But we
were interested to know where the vvc
placed Israels capital.
It seems nowhere.
Israel is the only country listed,
correct at the time of writing, that has
no capital according to the vvc. Yet
they bestow the honor of having East
Jerusalem as a capital on the country
of Palestine.
Te British establishments ongo-
ing problem with the State of Israel
manifests itself in many places. Most
recently we have seen the Olympic
committee reject a massively popular
campaign for a one-minute silence to
commemorate the lives of murdered
Israeli athletes. Now the vvc wont
even acknowledge Tel Aviv as the
capital of Israel, let alone Jerusalem.
Te goalposts in the debate are once
again being shifedas anti-Israel as
they possibly can be. Tis tactic is of-
ten used by negotiators to end up with
a far more pleasing solution to them
than they originally could have hoped
for. In denying Israel a capital city,
they are trying to shif the debate away
from Jerusalem and try to get us to get
them to acknowledge Tel Aviv. Tis is
a delegitimization tactic and noth-
ing morethough were sure theyll
excuse it away by claiming it was an
oversight or similar.
Once again the vvc has over-
stepped the mark and must be held to
account.

with the full support of the Eritrean

a British newspaper this week. An

Sicilys regional councilor Andrea

should be an enlightened city in the heart of an enlight-
ened continent.
Yet this is not so. Te unaccountable bureaucracy of the
European Union is now widely considered to be a sof
totalitarian regimeand getting harder all the time.
Our basic freedoms have long been guaranteedrst
by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as passed
by the United Nations in :8 . Tese rights include the
freedom of individual conscience, the right to assemble
peaceably, and the right to practice our religion freely, or to
have no religion at all. And, perhaps most importantly of
all, they include the right to voice our opinions freely and
to publish them without hindrance.
Yet freedom of speech is under attack today all across
Europe. I have experienced the full brunt of it in my own
country, AustriaI was prosecuted, convicted, and ned
for telling the simple truth about the prophet of Islam.
Today, in ::st century Western Europe, our right to
free speech is being shut down quietly and systematically
with an eectiveness that the commissars in the old Soviet
Union could only dream of.
Tese legal provisions making all of this possible are de-
tailed in the EUs public documents, and they enjoy the full
force of law in all EU member states as of midnight tonight.
Te nations of Western Europe have obediently complied
with the EUs Framework Decision, and have enacted
laws criminalizing speech that oends Muslims.
Te death throes of free speech in Europe have already
begun. Te oligarchs who rule Europe are determined
to prevent any frank discussion among their citizens about
Islam and its legal doctrines.
Tese are the methods of a totalitarian state.
Tey are more successful than those of the Nazis and
the Fascists and the Communists because they are accom-
plished quietly and peacefully, with no need for concentra-
tion camps or gulags or mass graves or the shot in the back

We are systematically being silenced. If we lose our
freedom of speech, then we are lost forever.

Losing Sovereignty

more sovereignty in order to x the
construction aws of the euro, with
the bailout fund possibly turning into
a budget authority further down the
road, European Central Bank board
member Joerg Asmussen has said.
We have construction mistakes of
Economic and Monetary Union and it
is time to correct them. It is clear that
the core of the current debate has a
name: further sharing of sovereignty,
Asmussen said Tuesday (July :,) at the
European Policy Center, a Brussels-
based think tank.
Part of the visionwhich the icv
is shaping in a report drafed by EU
Council chief Herman Van Rompuy
is a cap on how much debt countries
can issue, intervention in national bud-
gets and scal corrections imposed if a
country deviates from the decit and
debt limits imposed in the eurozone.
A common budgetary author-
ity could also be formed, Asmussen
said, with the upcoming permanent
bailout fund, the European Stability
Mechanism, a starting point.
Te ism is a scal authority by
denition because it deals with tax-
payers money, he explained, adding
that it would have to be put under the
scrutiny of the European Parliament

Deeper euro area integration can

internalize what it means to be an
economic union.
Te former German Finance Min-
istry ocial also defended the some-
times criticized stance of the icv when
giving advice to politicians on how to
change the structure of the eurozone.
It is clearly not beyond our mandate.
If we cant answer where we want to be

n Germany to relax arms export
rules
Te German Economy Ministry has
drafed two papers that aim to lif spe-
cial German rules which disadvantage
German exporters in comparison to
their European competitors, making it
easier for Germany to export weapons,
Der Spiegel reported July :,. A spokes-
man from the ministry denied the
report, saying that the new rules would
not aect arms trade. Der Spiegel insists
its reporting is accurate. According to
the magazine, the rules would mean
that weapons sales within the European
Union would no longer be considered
exports, but transfers. Tis would mean
that arms exporters could sell their
weapons around the world by transfer-
ring them to other EU countries and
then exporting them using the simpler
EU rules. Te changes will also make
nes for those caught violating the
rules less strict. Germany is already the
worlds third-largest exporter. On the
same day as Der Spiegels expos was
published, Bild reported that Tyssen
Krupp Marine Systems had signed a
oo million deal with Algeria for two
frigates, with helicopters. Included in
the deal was extensive training of Al-
gerian soldiers by the German military.
Earlier in the month, Spiegel Online

creasingly important role in Germanys

dle of Our Society, to the Institute of

den University of Technology, given

increase its social esteem, so that
it is viewed as a good and honorable
profession. Former Defense Minister
Karl-Teodor zu Guttenbergs deci-
sion to end conscription is changing
the armys relationship with society.
It now has to attract recruits just like
any other employer, which means that
for the rst time since World War ii,
the Defense Ministry is working hard
to sell the army to the general public.
To that end, the army is reaching out

n Rabbis urge German Jews to
defy ban, continue circumcision
An inuential group of European rab-
bis urged Germanys Jewish commu-
nity on Tursday to continue circum-
cizing baby boys, despite a regional
court having banned the practice.
Tree weeks ago, Colognes regional
court said that even if parents want
the procedure, circumcizing young
boys on religious grounds amounts to
bodily harm. Tousands of baby boys
are circumcized in Germany each

nancial consequences will be massive. More critical, how-

be irreparable.
It could be the end of Britain as the nancial capital of
the world.
Te good news, if you can call it that, is that so far only
British bank Barclays has admitted to xing interest rates.
But America and Britains other big banks have now been

and others have admitted they are under investigation. If
guilty, they may have defrauded investors, states, munici-

interest rates and then passed the information on to their
trading units, which then were able to speculate with impu-

Four U.S. Aircraft
Carriers Soon in the
Middle East
ZEROHEDGE | July 18
A
wiix ago we reported news that
Middle East veteran aircraf carrier
cv-, Stennis was ending its brief sab-
batical prematurely, and far earlier than
previously expected, and heading right
back into the eld, er sea, of action.
T
ui .1io.i Drought Monitor recently declared abnor-
mally dry conditions or a drought for almost 8o percent
of the contiguous United States, ranging in intensity up to
drought-exceptional.
Five days ago, the U.S. Department of Agriculture fol-
lowed by declaring disasters in :o U.S. states. Tis is the
largest national disaster area ever declared.
But while the drought is obviously a serious concern for
the U.S. (historically, droughts are the nations most costly
natural disaster), it also has worrying implications for other
countries that are tied to the U.S. through the global food
market. Coupled with other recent extreme weather events
across the globe, the U.S. drought could have a globally
destabilizing inuence.
Te conditions of this drought are abnormal. Te
drought happened suddenlywhat is called a ash
droughtbecause it has occurred over a matter of months,
rather than seasons or years. It is associated with record-
breaking temperatures, and has been labeled among the
worst droughts in U.S. history.
In lieu of the recent drought, the U.S. Department of
Agriculture adjusted its prediction for corn yields, the coun-
trys largest export crop, down by
:: percent. Tis, and any sub-
sequent adjustments, will likely
impact global corn prices, but also
meat and dairy prices, as corn is
used for animal feed. Meanwhile,
beef prices are still high from last
years drought in Texas.
As a leading exporter of corn
and soy, the U.S. is intricately
linked to the global food market.
Drought and crop failure in the
U.S. could spike world food prices and have serious impli-
cations for places like Mexico, China, Central America and
India, who rely heavily on imports of these crops, as well
as animal feed. But this is not the rst time that droughts
have caused a spike in world food prices. If this drought
does lead to a price spike, it will be the fh such spike in
six years.
What weve also seen is that spikes in world food prices
have increased the likelihood of instability and riots. In
some instances, crop failure in one part of the world associ-
ated with instability halfway around the globe, can con-
tribute to serious diplomatic crises between the U.S. and its
allies, as occurred with Egypt, and could conceivably result
in U.S. military involvement.
Tis is part of a larger phenomenon Dr. Troy Sternberg
calls the globalization of hazards, where natural hazards
in one region can have a signicant impact on regions
halfway across the globe. Tis is not to say that the current
U.S. drought will necessarily lead to unrest. However, it is
not unprecedented for droughts, and other climatic events
that damage crop production, to do so.
It is also important to consider that the drought and
crop failures in the U.S. are not happening in isolation. In
recent years, extreme hot and dry weather has forced Russia,
Ukraine and Kazakhstan to reduce their harvest forecasts.
European Union wheat yields this year will be smaller, in
part, because Spain is suering from the second-worst
drought in ,o years. North and South Korea are facing the
worst drought in a century.
Shifs in glacial melt and
rainfall are threatening crops
in Pakistan. Te proliferation of
locusts throughout West Africa is
threatening household food secu-
rity. Recent oods in Japan, India
and Bangladesh are threatening
rice crops. Argentinas soy crops
were severely depleted because
of a shortage of rain. Te list
goes on.
Many of these conditions are record-setting, or the
worst of their kind in decades and sometimes centuries.
What this means is that it is possible that the global food
market is about to witness an unusual amount of stress. It
is not entirely clear if the market is prepared for it, or even
if nations have the capacity to adequately respond.

lms can make children more pro-
miscuous and sexually active from a
younger age, a new study has suggested.
Psychologists concluded that teen-
agers exposed to more sex on screen
in popular lms are likely to have
sexual relations with more people and
without using condoms.
Te study, based on nearly ,oo
popular lms, found that watching
love scenes could fundamentally
inuence a teenagers personality.
Te researchers, from Dartmouth
College in New Hampshire, concluded
youngsters were more prone to take
risks in their future relationships.
Tey also concluded that for every
hour of exposure to sexual content on-
screen, participants were more than
ve times more likely to lose their
virginity within six years.
Adolescents who are exposed to
more sexual content in movies start
having sex at younger ages, have more
sexual partners, and are less likely
to use condoms with casual sexual
partners, said Dr. Ross OHara, who
led the study.
Tis study, and its conuence with
other work, strongly suggests that
parents need to restrict their children
from seeing sexual content in movies
at young ages.
More than a third of G-rated movies

Because these grotesque products
make money, and these companies
dont give a rip how they are hurting our girls.
Mainstream cultures barefaced sexuality is aggressively
targeting younger and younger children. It is trumpet-
ing the abominable lie that a females worth lies in her sex
appeal. It says that a womans true power lies in a certain
aggressive sexuality. Tis is what the clothes in the store
represent; this is what the most prominent female role
models project.
And tragically, this is what a growing majority of girls
are coming to believe: that the only worthy woman is a
sexy woman.
Tus, our malls, streets and secondary schools are be-
coming a parade of tight-tting T-shirts with messages like,
Who needs brains when you have these: and Future
porn star.
Making matters worse, the beauty standard our daugh-
ters are measuring themselves by is itself a demonstrable
lie. Te ubiquitous image of normal in the media is the
wafer-thin, ultra-tall supermodel with big breasts. Not
only do very few women t that description, those who do
are portrayed as even better than they really are: Photog-
raphers ltered lenses and lighting even out skin tones,
and photo-editing sofware removes wrinkles and stretch-
marks, smooths out dimply thighs and erases hints of
ab. In the end, the measure of perfection that our girls
absorb in movies and magazine covers is ctitious and
unattainable.
So, guess what: Tese real-life girls lack condence in
and comfort with their own bodies. Te number of girls
and younger who have had breast enlargements has risen
nearly ,oo percent over the past decade. Teenage girls are
subjecting their still-growing bodies to medical proce-
dures to get fuller lips, better noses, larger breasts, atter
stomachs, smaller thighs and so onand their parents are
encouraging them, even paying for them.
If you dont want your daughter falling prey to those lies,
then shield her from those messages, take pains to educate
her about themand love her for who she is.
Teach her that societys portrayal of sexy is wrong and
damaging. Teach her the truth about appearance: Yes, we
should take care of our bodies; we should practice good hy-
giene; we should keep ourselves t and capable of working
hardbut obsession over looks is a trap. Te most attrac-
tive enhancement of our appearance is a sincere, genuine
ready smile, a warm demeanor, an outgoing personality.
Give her the unconditional love that helps her to be

into a toxic cloud.
Water treatment plants in several states had shut down,
contaminating drinking water and causing Americans to
fall ill.
Our nation, it appeared, was under cyberattack. Un-
known hackers, perhaps a world away, had inserted mali-
cious sofware into the computer networks of private-sector
companies that operate most of our transportation, water
and other critical infrastructure
systems.
Fortunately, last months sce-
nario was just a simulationan
exercise to test how well federal,
state and local governments and
the private sector can work togeth-
er in a crisis. But it was a sobering
reminder that the cyber threat to
our nation is one of the most seri-
ous economic and national security
challenges we face.
[F]oreign governments, criminal
syndicates and lone individuals
are probing our nancial, energy
and public safety systems every
day. Last year, a water plant in
Texas disconnected its control system from the Internet
afer a hacker posted pictures of the facilitys internal
controls. More recently, hackers penetrated the networks of
companies that operate our natural-gas pipelines. Com-
puter systems in critical sectors of our economyincluding
the nuclear and chemical industriesare being increas-
ingly targeted.
It doesnt take much to imagine the consequences of a
successful cyberattack. In a future conict, an adversary
unable to match our military supremacy on the battle-
eld might seek to exploit our
computer vulnerabilities here
at home. Taking down vital
banking systems could trig-
ger a nancial crisis. Te lack
of clean water or functioning
hospitals could spark a public
health emergency. And as weve
seen in past blackouts, the loss
of electricity can bring busi-
nesses, cities and entire regions
to a standstill.
Tis is the future we have to
avoid.
Today we can see the cyber
threat to the networks upon
which so much of our modern
American lives depend. Its time to strengthen our
defenses against this growing danger.

Later in the article, my father said
we were witnessing a reenactment of
the :,os between Chamberlain and Hitler, when Chamber-
lain tried to negotiate his way to peace. History has proven
that attempting to appease a provoking enemy never works.
Daniel :::o reveals the nature of Irans radical Islamist
agenda: And at the time of the end shall the king of the
south push at him: and the king of the north shall come
against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with
horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the
countries, and shall overow and pass over. Tis Iranian-
led radical Islamist power bloc referred to in the Bible as the
king of the south is prophesied to push at the king of the
north, or a German-led united states of Europe. (For more
information on these two power blocs, read our booklets Te
King of the South and Germany and the Holy Roman Empire.)
Irans pattern has always been to provoke Europe and the
West with its pushy foreign policy. By failing to confront
Irans radical Islamist agenda, President Obama is ignoring
the number one state sponsor of terror in the Middle East.
Tis, in turn, will lead Europe to realize America is unwilling
to take on this king of terror. Regular followers of the Trum-
pet are well aware of these prophecies. But its still amazing to
look back on headlines weve penned in the past based on the
prophecies of God and see them coming to fruition today.
Another remarkable prediction my father made back in
:oo was regarding the imminent radicalization of Egypt.
While then President Hosni Mubarak was not present for
Obamas speech, he noted, the Muslim Brotherhood was.
Egypt is about to experience a radical change! he wrote
emphatically. No doubt the Muslim Brotherhood is going to
gain control of Egypt. Its invitation to hear that speech from
the leader of the free world absolutely strengthens its cause!
Who else was saying that in :oowhen Hosni
Mubarak supposedly still had a rm grip on the Muslim
Brotherhood and President Obama was healing the rif
between America and Islam:
How much did Americas president help the terrorist
cause: Probably far more than we imagine, he said. It
all gets back to Iran, Iran and Iran! Yet our president will
hardly talk about the brutal king of terrorism.
Toward the end of his article, my father said the presi-
dents speech would have a powerful impact on the ow of
prophetic events. He wrote, President Obamas speech is a
great turning point in this world. It is going to play a major
role in terrifying prophecies of your Bible being fullled.
It is beginning because of the broken will of America. God
is going to shake this world and start by shaking America,
Britain and the Jewish nation for their sins!
Tree years later, United States ally and ex-president
Mubarak is behind bars in an Egyptian prison while
former inmates belonging to the once-banned Muslim
Brotherhood are now running the country.
In her column from July ::, Caroline Glick highlighted
Egyptian President Mohammed Morsis unocial inaugu-
ration speech in which he told cheering supporters that he
would work for the release of Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman.
Tis terrorist, also known as the blind sheikh, is cur-
rently serving out a life sentence in a U.S. federal prison for
orchestrating the :, World Trade Center bombings.
He also led the radical Islamic group responsible for the
assassination of Anwar Sadat in :8:. In fact, Abdel-Rahman
is the one who personally penned the fatwa that called for Sa-
dats murder because of the peace treaty he signed with Israel.
Even afer his conviction for the :, bombing, Abdel-
Rahman issued another fatwa calling for jihad against
the United Statesa document Osama bin Laden cited as
justication for his attack on September ::.
By calling for Abdel-Rahmans release, Morsi has
aligned himself and his government with the U.S.s worst
enemies, Glick wrote. By calling for Abdel-Rahmans
release during his unocial inauguration ceremony, Morsi
signaled that he cares more about winning the acclaim of
the most violent, America-hating jihadists in the world
than with cultivating good relations with America.
And what was our nations ocial reaction to this insult-
ing item at the top of Morsis to do list: President Obama
invited Morsi to the White House for a September meeting.
We are now seeing the destructive afermath of Presi-
dent Obamas :oo outreach. As Glick notes, Obamas
record of failure since he implemented this policy three
years ago is svic1.cUi.v and unbroken.
Since he entered oce, the Americans have dispensed
with far fewer jihadists than they have empowered, she
wrote. Since January :oo, the Muslim world has become
vastly more radicalized. No Islamist government in power
in :oo has been overthrown. But several key statesrst
and foremost Egyptthat were led by pro-Western, U.S.-
allied governments when Obama entered oce are now
ruled by Islamists.
Tese are the undeniable fruits that have come from the
policy of appeasement America kicked o three years ago
in Cairo. What a 1Uviu voi1 that speech has turned
out to be.
