General Guidelines

Competition is organized in line with the celebration of FBCs 60
th
founding year
anniversary.
2. This contest is open to all choral groups coming from schools, Christian churches
and/or any private or public organizations within southern Negros Occidental (from
Binalbagan down to Hinobaan).
3. Each choral group must have a minimum of eight (8) to a maximum of thirty (30)
members. The conductor and the instrumentalists, if there are, will be excluded from
the number of participants but they should not be more than five (5) persons. The list of
names the official participants for the contest should be certified by the authorized
representative of the respective school, church, LGU, or the organization.
4. Each choral group will perform one choral arrangement of their choice which shall not
be less than five (5) minutes and will not exceed seven (7) minutes. Choral entries must
be Christian Christmas songs, carols, hymns, anthems, or medleys. Entries may either
be an originally arranged piece or an existing choral arrangement. The chosen song will
be the same both for the initial screening and final contest night.
5. Choral groups may be accompanied by live instrumentation or minus-one or the choir
may opt to sing a cappella.
6. All songs shall be performed from memory and without scores, both during the initial
screening and the final contest night. Minimal choreography may be allowed if
considered an integral part of the choral piece (e.g., clapping, foot stomp, hand
movements, etc).
7. The participating choral members, as well as the choice of song, will be the same both
for the initial screening and the final contest night.
8. All interested choral groups should submit the complete registration requirements for
initial screening to the Office for Institutional Advancement (OIA) of Fellowship Baptist
College on or before the close of office hours on November 17, 2014. The requirements
are as follows:
a. Accomplished Registration Form and Undertaking
b. Audio-video recording
c. Photocopy of the choral piece.
9. The board of judges shall screen all entries based on the respective contest criteria and
determine the ten (10) finalists to perform on the final contest night. Once chosen, top
finalists will not be allowed to waive participation in the contest until the final judging.

Guidelines for Audio-Video Recording for Initial Screening

1. Audio-Video recording may be in CD or DVD in .avi or .mpg format
2. It must be a raw recording. Any recording subjected to sound mixing/enhancement
and/or any form of post-recording audio and video editing will not be accepted.
3. Recording must be in a suitable, closed venue and free from any unnecessary noise.
4. All the participants, including the entire choir, the conductor, and the accompanist must
be within the video frame at all times. Any camera movement (e.g. panning, close-up,
zoom) will not be allowed.


Final Contest Night Guidelines

1. Final contest night will be on December 5, 2014, 6:00 PM at the FBC Gymnasium.
2. Rehearsal schedules and order of performance during the contest night will be
determined by the FBC contest facilitators and will be communicated to the contestants
in advance.
3. All songs must be sung from memory throughout the delivery. Only the conductor and
accompanist are allowed to use music sheets. Minimal choreography may be allowed if
considered an integral part of the choral piece (e.g., clapping, foot stomp, hand
movements, etc).
4. Maximum performance time must be seven (7) minutes only. Point deductions as
follows will apply to the raw score of each judge:
a. Less than one (1) minute over time allotted 1 point
b. More than one (1) to less than two (2) minutes over time allotted 2 points
c. More than two (2) minutes over time allotted 3 points
5. Participating groups must wear decent and appropriate costume or attire.
6. Competition requirements, instrumentation/accompaniment, accommodations, meal
allowances, costume, and travel costs will be borne by the participants.
7. Additional guidelines will be given to the finalists as necessary.
8. The decision of the distinguished board of judges is final and binding on all parties
concerned. The competition will be judged according to the following criteria:

Choral Sound and musicality - 40%
(Tonal quality, harmony, blending)
Musicianship - 40%
(Singing abilities, quality of voice, precision, expressions, difficulty of piece)
Deportment and over-all Impact - 20%
(Stage presence, appropriateness of movements, overall impact)
Total - 100%

9. The prizes for the competition are as follows:
a. First Placer - Php 10,000.00 and Certificate
b. Second Placer - Php 7,000.00 and Certificate
c. Third Placer - Php 3,000.00 and Certificate
d. Consolation Prize - Php 1,000.00 and Certificate
