Narayanganj is about 17 Km Southeast of Capital Dhaka of Bangladesh. It
is situated on the bank of the river Shitalakhya, at the confluence of the
Shitalakhya and Buriganga rivers.

Narayanganj is also situated at Zone-2, moderate
earthquake influenced zone of Bangladesh.
Narayanganj is flood affected zone.

Natural calamity such as Flood ,Cyclone, Earthquake is
general phenomena here.

Building collapse is also happened here .

Narayanganj is also vulnerable to fire hazard.

Response Preparedness is being signed between Dr. Salina
Hayat Ivy Honourable Mayor NCC and UNDP Representative on
17 November, 2013
Project Activities
Preparation of multi-hazard vulnerability ATLAS
Develop hazard specific maps
Volunteer service development leading to a
team of trained urban volunteers
Formation of ward based group and impart
training
Procure light equipment for search and rescue.
Activation of Disaster Management Committee
Continued
Maintain a webpage for disaster response
programme under NCC

Develop a ward based database of volunteer
Initiate awareness on fire and earthquake in
education bodies and RMGs

Facilitate participation of NCC staffs to the
urban disaster learning events at national and
international level


Enhance Capacity of NCC by UNDP
through 1

Consultation with the targeted urban
communities, Life line providers and
other stakeholders, specially Findings
from the vulnerability atlas were
conducted to identify priorities and
options for DRM planning.

Facilitate the formation and training of a
Disaster Management Committee.

A DRM plan developed for the
municipality and the communities.

A number of rescue equipment's were
purchased to enhance capacity of
municipality to respond more efficiently.

awareness raising, safety drills,
information management, needs
assessment and first aid to assist
MCM.

Train municipal staff on DRM issues
and transfer skills to conduct
simulation drills with trained Scout

Conclusion
After completion of UNDP aided Urban Disaster
Response Preparedness Project , The citizen
of Narayanganj City Corporation will be more
capable and equipped for emergency disaster
response and resilient in a significant level.
