URBAN RESIDENCE

LOCATION Urban West Texas

DISCRIPTION Intent was to design a landscape reminiscent of the West Texas land-
scape through the investigation in the grains of a chosen piece of wood. The art on the
landscape and residence are also derived from those investigations. The residence and
land art needed to be a visual representation and continuation of the underlying spirit of
our chosen grain. The residence was to also be environmentally conscious in design.

ARCHITECTURAL CERAMICS

DISCRIPTION A three part clay wall mounted piece. The design intent was to
symbolize a personal inner struggle in life. Depicting the deep seeded rage and
passion to which it burns in your soul, on a continuous journey to a complete
contentness with all the wonderfully tragic complexities life has to offer.

LOCATION Passage DuCaire, Paris, France`
DISCRIPTION Isolated in the center of Paris, Passage DuCaire is currently stagnated
by the local textile and clothing industry. While the passage was once a vibrant social
scene it is now a sore in the city, infected by abandoned buildings, thugs, and prosti-
tutes. Any plans for further development of the site have come to a halt. Now, with the
passage being used for storage and local distribution of industrial textile goods, it has
driven out families, tourists, and locals as there are no services to provide for them. At
night the streets quickly become unsafe. The idea for the intervention was to open up
major axis, create public spaces, and redirect the passage usage to the pedestrian,
executing this with a cultural consciousness and contextual responsibility to the continu-
ity of the city of Paris.

AQUATIC
CENTER/
PERMANENT ROOF STRUCTURE

LOCATION Texas Tech Recreation Center Pool, Lubbock, TX

DISCRIPTION The design for the new permanent roof structure is constructed with a
poured-in-place, post-tensioned concrete slab. The roof slab rests on columns that sit
behind insulated operable glass panels. The roof was designed to have elegant over-
lapping layers that shelter the pool without making the interior space feel too confined.
As the individual slabs have their own unique movement they have a cohesive sense of
direction. They are reminiscent of a sheet in the wind. At the west facade, the material
changes to a reflective permeated thin metal sheeting. This provided a playful light to
enter the skylights in the baths and main entryway.

PRECEDENCE Louis Vuiton Building, Nagoya, Japan
ARCHITECT Tadao Ando
DISCRIPTION Investigation of the double layer building skin creating an optical illusion
called the moiré effect. Created two identical surface patterns separated 1.15 meters,
creating the moiré effect. The effect essentially creates a new pattern developed in the
ambiguity between the two planes. Misconstruing your depth perception to combine
the two independent patterns into one new pattern that changes with you perspective.

understanding the interrelation between the buildings envelope, interior spaces, and the
practicality of natural daylight and ventilation.
