Tree-mendous for
canopy coverage
CAN you see the wood for
the trees?
You may not if you live in
Glanaman, which has been
ranked second in Wales for
canopy cover the amount
of tree coverage.
A report based on a sur-
vey commissioned by Natu-
ral Resources Wales (NRW)
identified Glanaman as
having 28.1 per cent canopy
cover, just behind Trimsa-
ran with 34.4 per cent.
NRW used aerial photog-
raphy over three years (2006
to 2009) to identify and map
the canopy of trees across
all of Waless urban areas.
The survey is said to be
the first of its kind in the
world.
The report highlights
potential town and wards
for targeted tree planting
to increase canopy cover.
Of the 22 Welsh counties,
Carmarthenshires cover is
seventh highest, at 15.1.
