This journey is not that easy and we generally feel a lot of pressure, expectations and often feel

like quitting. But remember- only rolling stones gather no dirt. So always keep moving.

MOTIVATION is the key

So, what do you think is the driving factor that keeps YOU motivated throughout the two years
of your preparation? Coaching classes teach you How to do things, but there is one thing that
none else can teach you. And it is the WHY. Why do you want to clear JEE or get in the best
engineering colleges of the country? If you have a clear answer on this, you will always be
charged and there will be no setbacks that can stop you from trying harder and harder till you get
it. Its that same WHY that will ignite the fire in you. For someone it can be his parents dream,
while for others it can be the brand IIT. It can be anything. So, try finding your WHY and that
will act as your motivating factor through and through.

Concentrate on your studies. Don't worry about what others do

Once you have your reason, an effective planning will always help you stand out in the crowd.
There are lakhs of students studying day in and day out to achieve the same dream. Only this fact
might scare you a lot. But I will show you a different angle which helped me. I agree that there
are lakhs of students fighting for this exam. But I had developed a mentality that I would solve as
many questions as I could and try to get as many marks as I could. I never had in mind that there
were lakhs of students and how would I get through. This way I never felt the tension in my head
and I used to give my tests peacefully. No silly mistakes made and I achieved what I deserved.

No need to rush into solving the paper

I also used to do one more thing. Many of my friends had the habit that as soon as they received
the paper in their hands, they would start solving from the very first question. My advice to you
is to take out 2 minutes just to have a look at the entire paper once and to pick up the easy
questions first. Presence of mind is very important and smart work pays more than hard work.

Every topic is important

There often exists a question that what topics you should work hard on. Well its JEE and so the
entire course matters. I had a very strong hold on my favorite topics and practiced them so well
that I answered almost all the questions in JEE. Your favorite topics are the ones that will set
your score high. Practice them to perfection. But dont give up on other topics. Everything is
important and you never know what can come up in JEE. So your devotion of time to the three
subjects is also important. Give adequate time to all of them. And for that Plan your schedule
effectively. Note down your daily activities and analyze them. This way you will also come to
know the number of hours per day u dedicate to your preparation. Noting down your daily
activity will give you a proper insight into your activities and will help you to improve a little
every day.

1) Panicking Before Or During A Paper: Always prepare for a test or exam well in
advance.Have a good nights sleep before the date of the test or exam.Keep reassuring yourself
that you can do it. Once you stop doubting yourself, you will stop panicking. If all else fails,
comfort yourself that it is only a paper. Its not the end of the world even if you dont do well for
just one paper. So just relax and Do some breathing exercise to relax
2.Failing To Scan Through The Questions Once: Do not immediately start answer the first
question. Give yourself about 3 to 5 minutes to read through all the questions. Put a tick against
the easy questions and a cross against the difficult ones. Then, proceed to answer the easy
questions first! Always leave the difficult questions to the last. This ensures that you would have
answered most of the questions in the paper should you run out of time. It also gives you more
time for the difficult questions, as you would need relatively less time for the easy ones
3.Misinterpreting A Question: The only way to avoid misinterpreting a question is to read
through the question at least twice. Underline the key words in the question. Make sure you
understand what those keywords mean. Many time we waste lot of time in this and loose the
examination
4.Failing To Bring Along Required Stationery Or Items. If you run out of stationary, your time
will be wasted in getting that from some one
5.Forgetting To Write Down Your Names And Other Personal Particulars: Put all the particulars
on the paper correctly
6. Marking the wrong multiple choice answer in answer sheet: pay special attention to this. Many
time we circle the wrong one and our whole hardwork is wastage
7.Ignoring the clock.: Keep a tab of the time
8.Arriving Late For A Paper: Come 30 min before starting the paper and relax
9.Starting With The Most Difficult Question: This is the worst mistake,if you fall in this trap, you
will loose all the easy one
10) Poor and slow writing skill
1. No shortcut to hard work: This means that if you want success then the only way is to
work very hard for it. This is because there is lot of competition in each and every thing
you do. Without hard work it is rather impossible to achieve anything in life.
2. Right direction for your hard work: Whatever work you do in your routine, if it does not
have any direction then the work done will be a waste. When you work blindly without
knowing anything you may fail to get a proper result.
3. Very strong concept building: If you study something a number of times but still fail to
understand the concept, then in all probability you are not enjoying the topic. It is very
important for JEE preparation that whatever concepts your study should be strong,
otherwise you will face problems while solving questions as all the questions asked in
JEE are application based. More importantly, the stronger your concepts, the more you
will enjoy studying the latter topics.
4. Speed with accuracy: In JEE you must have speed with accuracy, because generally
papers are lengthy and twisted. Accuracy is required so as to avoid negative marking and
thus reducing your loss. Speed will be achieved by regular practice and accuracy comes
by paying full concentration while attending classes as well as while attempting more
papers.
5. Consistent preparation as well as performance: One has to be very regular in his or her
studies while preparing for JEE. You have to work everyday without taking a single
break for the two years. Also the performance graph should be consistent. This means
every test you give during these two years should show gradual progress of your
performance rather than zig-zag. This will give boost to your confidence level.
6. Thorough analysis of subject, topics and test: Analysis of everything you do is must.
Analysis will give you an idea about your weakness and strength. Depending on that one
should work hard on weaknesses and improving strength. Test analysis is important
because that will give you a clear picture of whether you know the subject or not.
7. Disciplined and systematic approach towards studies: One has to be very organised in his
or her studies. You study for 10 hrs one day and then dont study at all for three days will
not work. You should decide a particular pattern of study that suits you the most, and
then follow this pattern throughout this two years.
8. Positive attitude: With positive attitude you cannot become a performer. Negativity will
result in nothing but frustration and failure.
9. Burning desire to achieve the target: If you have a burning desire to do something then all
the energies in the world will help you in achieving your goal. So set your target, be
passionate about it and dont look back!
10. Top 5 factors that IITians believe lead to their success in IITJEE, one you will surely find
is that they were highly motivated to enter into IIT. Many times while studying, it
happens that you lose your concentration, your mood switches to non-studying mode or
some irrelevant things bother you and eventually you end your study and start doing
something else. The best way to tackle all these problems and remain focused is to
remain motivated for IIT.
11. Never just think of getting into IIT but think of getting into IIT with good rank. Choose
the branch and department you will like to go in and then every time your mind diverts,
just ask yourself, Whether the level of hard work I am doing is going to get me my
desired rank, whether I will be able to get my desired branch by studying this much. If
your brain answers NO then you need to study more. It does not matter whether your
class rank is fifteenth or first. No one can say that you cannot beat the first ranker of your
class on the final day.
12. You need to find your motivation factor. It can be anything. Some of motivation factors
are- fear of paying huge amount to study in private college if could not get into an IIT,
the quality of life inside the IIT, the fun and opportunities IITians have, to go abroad for
higher study or job, etc. Motivation plays a very crucial role in success at IITJEE. When
a traveller is continuously heading towards a destination for one or two years and that too
without knowing that finally he will hit the target, then at least once a time comes when
he thinks of giving up all the hopes. But those who keep walking, are optimistic and
manage to overcome such negative thoughts are the one who finally get to taste the haven
even in the mid of desert. So folks, keep your spirits high and never buckle under to the
negative thoughts.
13. Keeping yourself always in positive mood is not very easy task. Be it the topper of your
batch or the one at rank 100, both has equal certainty / uncertainty of getting into an IIT.
Even the student who is going to get AIR 1 in JEE has fear at some corner of his heart.
But the one who tastes the success knew how to mould the fear into motivation. They
think that if they are not able to get hold of good rank then they will not get there desired
department at IIT. This fear of loss of favourite department gives motivation to study for
them. Some fear of spending huge amount of money for getting into private colleges and
this gives them motivation to work hard. Similarly you need to find the way to associate
your fear factor to something motivating and convert it into your motivation factor.
14. Another very common negative factor which comes in the path of JEE aspirants is
tension. It can be either because you got poor marks in your last tests or you were not
able to complete some chapters on time etc. The most obvious thing that comes to mind
in such a situation is why to study? What is the use of it when after doing all the hard
work I am not able to perform? But JEE is also not an obvious thing. You want to get
into IIT physically then you first need to get into it mentally. Take this as a challenge.
Very nice quote which mean similar- no matter how far behind you are in the race, not
everybody is born a racer, take your time, train yourself, but once you are ready make
sure you run at your full capacity. Overcome the tension just give your 100% so that
when at night you go to bed you feel that you have not left any stone unturned from your
side and so you get a relaxed sleep.
15. Secret of Success in IIT JEE
16. You would be thinking that what can be the secret of getting into IIT (if there is one)? If
it is there then why not someone else has told you this before?
