Get real-world experience reporting political

and public affairs news, Winter 2015

24 credits of communications courses based at the BYU Salt Lake Center

Open to journalism (print, digital, broadcast) and public relations students in
the BYU communications major. Students will report on the Utah Legislature
and public affairs issues in an urban setting.

What Comms students are saying about the
experience:

I loved the Capitol experience because
of how much I learned. I was thrown
directly into something that forced me to
step up and gave me real life experience.
It really helped improve my skills as a
reporter. . . I feel like the best way to learn
is by actual experience.

Having (Comms) 321 in Salt Lake was an
incredible experience. It felt like more of an
internship than a class, and that became
even more apparent as I described the
experience on my resume. The most valuable
part for me was learning the power of
storytelling. Often times, the legislation that
I covered could be dry at face value, but it
taught me to find the narrative grist by delving into topics and into the lives of
real people of influence.

Talk to Prof. Joel Campbell or Prof. Ben Whisenant for more information.
