Safety recommendations
As high pressures constitute a potential safety risk, the following
instructions must be considered:
The equipment should only be operated by trained personnel.
Always follow the operating instructions.
Check the pump and all accessories carefully before use.
Never use even slightly damaged components.
Make sure all air has been removed from the hydraulic
system, before pressurizing the pump.
Always use a pressure gauge.
Always prevent the workpiece/tool from being projected upon
sudden release of pressure (e.g. by use of retaining nut).
Never use the equipment above the stated maximum
hydraulic pressure.
Never exceed the stated maximum air pressure.
Never use the pump together with accessories which are rated
below the maximum pressure of the pump.
Use protective goggles.
Never modify the unit.
Use original parts only.
Only use clean, recommended hydraulic oils (e.g. ISO VG 10).
In case of any uncertainties as regards the use of the pump,
contact SKF.
4 SKF TMJA 70E
1. Application
The TMJA 70E is an air-driven, foot-operated pump particularly suitable
for maintenance work where both hands can be free from the task of
pumping the oil and instead used for operating adjacent tools.
Typical such applications include work with hydraulic pullers
(TMHP and TMBS series), hydraulic rams (TMHR series) and hydraulic
nuts (HMV E).
2. Technical data
Maximum working pressure : 70 MPa (700 bar, 10.150 psi)
Required air pressure : 0,6 - 1,0 MPa (87 - 145 psi)
Oil flow : 200 - 750 cm
3
/min (12,2 - 45,8 in
3
/min)
Total oil volume : 1.050 cm
3
(64 in
3
)
Effective oil volume : 1.000 cm
3
(61 in
3
)
Weight including oil : 5,9 kg (11 lbs)
3. Operating instructions
3.1 Installation
3.1.1 Connecting compressed air
The pump requires a compressed air pressure of at least 0,6 MPa
(6 bar, 87 psi) to develop hydraulic pressures of 70 MPa (700 bar,
10.150 psi). Make sure that the air pressure does not exceed 1 MPa
(10 bar, 145 psi) as this could damage the pump. To ensure efficient
operation and long life use clean compressed air with a watertrap and
oil mist lubrication. Connect the compressed air to the quick connection
nipple (Fig. 1 Pos. A).

3.1.2. Accessories
The pump can be equipped with accessories such as a gauge, gauge
adapter, etc. All rams, accessories, and tools that are connected to the
pump must be designed for a working pressure that is equal to or higher
than the maximum working pressure of the pump.
3.2 Use
3.2.1 Oil filling
Check the oil level before use. The oil level must always be measured
with the ram/tool in the lowest/retracted position. For good function, use
hydraulic oil equivalent to ISO VG 10.
I Stand the pump up with the pneumatic
motor lowemost (Fig. 2).
I Unscrew the oil filler plug (Fig. 2, item A).
I Fill the oil reservoir through the filler hole
until the oil reservoir is completely full
(1.050 cm
3
, 64 in
3
).
I Screw the oil filler plug back into place.
3.2.2 Start
To extend the rams/tools, press the pump pedal (Fig. 1, Pos. B). The
pump will stop and maintain the achieved hydraulic pressure when the
pedal is released in the neutral position.
3.2.3. Releasing
To release the ram/tool, press the release pedal (Fig.1, Pos. C). Hold
the pedal down until the cylinder has moved back to the desired
position.
NOTE: If the pump is overfilled when a cylinder or tool is released, the
surplus oil will run out of the valve in the filler plug.

4. Maintenance
When necessary lubricate moving parts such as the pneumatic piston
and valve with high-grade grease.
NOTE: For safety reasons, service and repair of this product must be
done by a knowledgeable person. Upon the slightest doubt, contact
your distributor for information about the nearest authorised workshop.
NOTE: The safety valve on the underside of the pump has been set by
the manufacturer. It can be adjusted ONLY by SKF or an SKF
authorised service workshop.
