Beginning of tutorial session on WEEK 12

Your paper should analyses the organizations environment and


competitors, explain the effectiveness (or otherwise) of its strategy and
make criticisms of past choices and recommendations for the future,
taking into account of any expected change in the environment or other
organizations behavior. Your project should clearly define the issue(s)
facing the organization of interest, analyses the situation using the
concepts and tools of the course and develop a specific plan of action for
the organization. If you have contacts at the organization of interest, it
would be useful to engage them in your project. However, this is not
necessary your project can be based entirely on available information.
You are strongly encouraged to choose an organization where substantial
amount of information are easily available. You may analyses current or
historical situations.
Assignment Instructions
Your goal is to make you think carefully about applying the concepts of
strategy to an industry and organization that interests you and where you
have to decide what the important issues are and the course of action
should be. Remember that you should choose topic related to ideas
covered in the course.
You are to submit your report via CD in pdf format.
Your report must be typewritten, Calibri/Times New Roman font size
12, margins left/right at 1.25 and top/bottom at 1.
Your report should include the following headings as per identified in
the case analysis checklist (Appendix 3).

Your group must adhere to all regulations pertaining to plagiarism.


Use of any intellectual property must be cited and referenced.
Any group found to not have complied with the above instructions
are imposed a penalty of marks.
*The project accounts for a significant portion of your 25%
assignment grade.
Your task:
Your paper should clearly state the issue you are addressing. Some
research on the details is essential but the key to a successful paper is to
analyze, not just describe.
You will be graded on how well you answer the relevant questions rather
than on how much effort went into the research. The questions are such
as:
What are the organizations most important opportunities and
threats?
What are the organizations major strengths and weaknesses?
How would you describe the organizations financial condition?
What are the organizations existing strategies and objectives?
Who are the organizations competitors and what are their
strategies?
What objectives and strategies do you recommend for this
organization? Explain your reasoning. How does what you
recommend compare to what the organization plans?
How can the organization best implement what you recommend?
What implementation problems do you envision? How can the
organization avoid or solve these problems?
You should focus your discussion to allow for a specific and substantive
analysis of how the organization uses one or more of the techniques we
have discussed in class.
Papers with description but no analysis will receive a low grades.
