The Wolfes Den

Hello to my favorite people, you the reader. Ive had an influx of attention lately with so many new comers moving
here in Freeport. I get approached and am becoming more
recognized from the locals throughout Walton county. I guess after 6yrs.
People see me every other Wed. Reliable, dependable and to top that, we offer the lowest
prices available in this county for advertising. Your Advertisement helps your friends and
fellow neighbors of Freeport and the surrounding areas receive a FREE Newspaper. No
one can compete with us, for what we have to offer you, is detail. AND ITS FREE!
You know last weeks Editorial raised a few eyebrows because so many people around
us are getting viral sickness, even more cases of gastro problems are showing up in a few
schools here in Walton county. We will eventually encounter new diseases.get checked.
Its tough enough for these kids today to try and grasp this new way of learning. I
think it is back firing on the system to have common core education. Many of todays
teachers here in Walton are teaching subjects they know nothing about. They give the
students a book and tell them to figure it out? I see how cutbacks in the system may have
made this situation occur. I could be wrong, but I know from experience. I see plenty of
young kids in the county without a direction towards a better tomorrow. We have nothing
here for them to aspire to settle here cause there arent jobs for families to be raised good
with benefits. Going to college? Good Luck, I dont see degrees paying off the long run.
Im sure the number is high for the number families in need of assistance from the
govt. But dont you see, that also has become a problem? You get more from not working,
raising kids and receive benefits for the children. Wheres the incentive to the parents, to
show their kids what it is to work everyday and how hard work does pay off. Persistency
and a drive from within, to get to a higher level of living for yourself and your family.
Dont just settle for a passing grade. Kids, if you dont know what your expected to
know by the time you hit college, your so far behind the curve, most just drop out and
look for work. I have encountered several teachers and a past principal who didnt help the
student, when they ask for tutor from just wanting to understand a subject? They say no
child left behind? Just cause they pass doesnt mean they have graduated with a skill or
enough brain knowledge about a certain subject, to dive into a career that will pay well, to
retire there and such. The American dream? What is your dream? Or do you just exist?
I havent seen many jobs like that around these parts thats why I do other work as well
as this newspaper. Still I offer help, to you citizens by doing handyman work and help the
elderly repair things, in a fair price for them. I have a desire to help others, be appreciated
for what I have done. It makes the job all worth it. At church or at work, help others.
Most everyone I know with a good job drives across the bridge and down into Destin.
Have you all notice what is coming in from the East along Hwy. 98? Shades the beer bar?
That whole intersection has brought in businesses looking like Pier Park. What an idea
that was for Panama City. That too has grown so fast and they are filled with large name
brand companies. A lot is retail but it offers work or even a second job, if needed.
Again, I hear of the rumors of the Publix ground breaking along Hwy 331. That in
itself will change the dynamics of Freeport. I see signs all over for home sales, looks like
plenty of land still available too. This can be a very nice welcoming place to visit or live
year round. But the attitude against progress and growth must change into opening your
eyes. Imagine a place you are proud to be from? Really proud? If not, dont complain.
Over the years I have had plenty encounters with local officials from school board to
code enforcement. There are too many people in these positions that do not understand the
laws, what they can and what they seem not to do. The more I have investigated other
complaints. Ive learned of several law suits in the county over land disagreements. I too
was lied to buy seller about the driveway I drove into to buy our land/home, wasnt even
on the property I purchased? TRUE, its all in court records. Did the man/wife make the
deal right by signing the driveway to be included to reach our garage? NO..sue? Yes,
and was hornswaggled by attorneys and their game of mediation, instead of a judge
enforcing a ruling. A Man of his word? Ha! How many do you know that are? Real Men?
Trust me, that has been a crawl in my shorts, since I had to survey over bad neighbor
issues. Privacy fence, security, all in place because of untrusting people taking advantage
of the lack of system in this county. Get your property surveyed, again. Before you lose it.
There are setback rules in place already by county, state and local city. But do you
think enforcement of obvious violators would be strongly dealt with? No, not here in
Walton county. Unless you (a citizen) complain and I mean dont stop, be vigilante and
insist that these people do their duty, their jobs. Stay on top. They too can also be replaced
for lack of duty just like a cop. Each has a duty. They work for your rights.
Hopefully you Voted for people who will help get the road map to our next 10 years
to be more enjoyable. Let residents live in peace. If the county took the time to drive and
question boundries and ensure property distances of buildings and easements and roads so
they can all be clear and presentable, safe for driving. Buildings being built that are within
setbacks shall be forced to be moved or you will be fined daily, as they say from code. We
will see because the number of cases are going to grow once people realize they have been
deceived. Zoned residential for a reason, no business permitted. Sounds logical to me.

Most of all the judges in place were re-elected and maintained their position for here in

Southerland/ Graham is in dead heat. Too close to call for its time for us to print.
Rep. Yoho and Crenshaw have a lock victory as well.
Dem. Brown is leading by a good pace to win.
Check your local headline news on the TV for of a more in depth coverage of the elections, locally and nationally. There were plenty of action between all the falsely written

Which representative out there today, Do you feel has the fortitude and the knowledge
needed to turn our country back into a dominate force of Freedom. Religious Christians
formed the country on the basis In God we Trust. Because we do. Every form of currency for USA has that stamped on it. The basics of why we have lived as we have for
over the past 200 years or more. We do not accept tyranny, a king nor a princess but a
person who represents us all. Someone who is like one of us the average person trying to
enjoy living a decent life. Which candidate do you know that is really there to help us, the
people?
We have virus and boarder issues trumping the other messes we have seen in our govt.

All area veterans are invited to free medical and dental care at PanCare Healths
Community Health Centers throughout Bay (November 7), Calhoun, Holmes,
Liberty, Walton, and Washington Counties (November 14.) PanCare offers
medical clinics in all six counties. Dental clinics are located in Panama City and
Freeport. Veterans do need an appointment at all medical and dental clinics and
are asked to bring any form of documentation which shows they were honorably
discharged from the U.S. military. Income status is irrelevant.
Free dental services for veterans at the Panama City and Freeport dental clinics
include exams, x-rays, extractions, fillings and cleanings. Medical services
include ear and eye exams, blood pressure checks, and screenings for blood
sugar, oxygen levels and hemoglobin.
Were proud of our veterans, says Mike Hill, president and chief executive
officer of PanCare Health, a non-profit organization which operates Federally
Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in Bay, Calhoun, Holmes, Walton, Washington and Liberty counties. This is a good way for us to express our appreciation
for all they have done to protect our country.
Often times we forget to express our gratitude to those individuals, our veterans,
who have made sacrifices for America and our rights to live as a free people,
says Hill. November 7ths Stand Up for Veterans Day at our clinics in Bay
County and November 14th at our Calhoun, Holmes, Liberty, Walton and Washington Counties is one way the staff of PanCare Health have chosen to recognize
their service in defense of America, its ideals and the individual freedoms each of
us enjoy as Americans.
Veterans must make an appointment by calling PanCares Community Health
Centers of their choice for the services they need.

When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to

The term "pervasive developmental disorders," also called PDDs, refers

to a group of conditions that involve delays in the development of many
basic skills. Most notable among them are the ability to socialize with
others, to communicate, and to use imagination. Children with these
conditions often are confused in their thinking and generally have problems understanding the world around them.
Because these conditions typically are identified in children around 3
years of age -- a critical period in a child's development -- they are
called developmental disorders. The condition actually starts far earlier
than age 3, but parents often do not notice a problem until the child is a
toddler who is still not walking, talking, or developing in the ways other
children of the same age are.
Autism : Children with autism have problems with social interaction,
pretend play, and communication. They also have a limited range of
activities and interests. Many -- nearly three out of every four -- children
with autism also have some degree of intellectual disability. Children
with autism can frequently have seizures as well as low muscle tone.
They also have underlying anxiety and resistance to change.
Asperger's syndrome : Like children with autism, children with Asperger's syndrome have difficulty with social interaction and communication. They also have a narrow range of interests. However, children with
Asperger's have average or above average intelligence and develop normally in the areas of language and cognition (the mental processes related to thinking and learning). Children with Asperger's often have difficulty concentrating and may have poor coordination. Asperger's is
usually not recognized until children have enough language skills to
show a limited focus and unusual patterns of speech.
Childhood disintegrative disorder: Children with this rare condition
begin their development normally in all areas, physical and mental. At
some point, usually between 2 and 10 years of age, a child with this
illness loses many of the skills he or she has developed. In addition to
the loss of social and language skills, a child with disintegrative disorder
may lose control of other functions, including bowel and bladder control. Not all medical scientists agree that CDD should be considered a
distinct disorder separate from other disorders in what is known as the
autism spectrum.
Pervasive development disorder, not otherwise specified (PDDNOS): This category is used to refer to children who have significant
problems with communication and play, and some difficulty interacting
with others, but are too social to be considered autistic. It's sometimes
referred to as a milder form of autism.

Healthmark Health Matters

-Under the Florida sun
Skin cancer, which is the abnormal growth of skin
cells, most often develops on skin exposed to the sun.
In Florida, which attracts suns-worshipper by the
millions, skin cancer is a real problem. However,
according to researchers at Mayo Clinic, this common
form of cancer can also occur on areas of skin not
ordinarily exposed to sunlight.
The best way to reduce the risk of skin cancer is by
limiting or avoiding exposure to ultraviolet (UV)
radiation caused by the sun. Skin cancer usually
develops primarily on areas of sun-exposed skin,
including the scalp, face, lips, ears, neck, chest, arms
and hands, and on the legs in women. Checking the
skin for suspicious changes can often lead to detection
of skin cancer at its earliest stages. Early detection
provides the greatest chance for successful skin cancer
treatment.
There are three major types of skin cancer basal
cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. Basal cell carcinoma usually occurs in sunexposed areas, such as the neck or face and may appear as a pearly or waxy bump, a flat, flesh-colored or
brown scar-like lesion. Squamous cell carcinoma also
occurs on sun-exposed areas of the body. People with
darker skin are more likely to develop squamous cell
carcinoma on areas that aren't often exposed to the
sun. Squamous cell carcinoma may appear as a firm,
red nodule or a flat lesion with a scaly, crusted
surface.
Melanoma can develop anywhere on your body, in
otherwise normal skin or in an existing mole that
becomes cancerous. Make an appointment with a
physician if you notice any changes to your skin. A
physician can investigate skin changes to determine a
cause. For more information about the early detection
and treatment of skin cancer, contact Dr. Edward
Tenewitz at Healthmark Walk-In Clinic in DeFuniak
Springs, (850) 951-4556.

New Signal For Hwy331 and Hwy 3280

The new traffic signal on U.S. 331 at County Road 3280 (Black Creek Road) in
Walton County will be activated Tuesday, Nov.4 at 9 a.m. The signal has been in a
flash mode for the past week to acquaint motorists with the location.
The new signal is mounted on strain poles with signal heads in the vertical position.
Drivers are urged to use caution when approaching the newly signalized intersection.

The cool weather has kicked in and the early mornings you have to
bundle up, but we are still very fortunate to live in the area we do
compared to all of the heavy winter weather in the northern parts of
the country.
The second reading for the adoption of the annexation ordinance was
read at the last meeting and should be approved at the November
scheduled meeting. The Freeport Fire Department will be turning 50
years old this year and a celebration is scheduled at the Fire Department on November 8, 2014, so stop by and enjoy some refreshments
and take a look around at the fire station. A workshop is schedule for
November 6, 2014, beginning at 6:00 PM, with the council and the
Engineering Dept. concerning the Water & Sewer Model. The council has once again narrowed down the 23 applications for the city
clerk to the top 3 and interviews will take place on November 6 to
select the person to fill this position which has been vacant since
April, also a presentation by the applicants for the RFQs IT person
will be held on the same night. The contract with the Florida Department of Corrections for the maintenance agreement has been renewed until April 17, 2016, and the council has agreed for a purchase of a new truck for the water department. The council also has
voted to include a usage form to be filled out by everyone who is
using the Freeport Regional Sports Complex at Hammock Bay, the
locks have been changed at the complex and keys will be logged in
and out by those requesting to use it, information concerning the use
of the park can be obtained at city hall. Volunteers are still badly
needed for the Heritage Museum and we would appreciate any volunteers that can help out. The Mayors Charity Ball is approaching
on November 15, 2014, at the Hammock Bay Lake Club and tickets
are available here at city hall, TJs Table, The Prissy Hen and Emerald Coast Flowers & Gifts- this is a worthwhile cause and the proceeds help provide Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners for the
families of those less fortunate in our community and Christmas
Gifts for those children as well, this is in conjunction with the Freeport Fire Department. A Freeport Community Thanksgiving Service
and meal will be held on November 22, 2014, at the Freeport Community Center, service will begin at 11:00 am, if you can volunteer

Happenings in DeFuniak Springs

Little Akio
The teacher said, "Let's begin by reviewing
some American History. Who said 'Give me
Liberty , or give me Death'?"
She saw a sea of blank faces, except for Little
Akio, a bright foreign exchange student from
Japan , who had his hand up: "Patrick Henry,
1775," he said.
"Very good! -- Who said, 'Government of the
People, by the People, for the People, shall
not perish from the Earth'?"
Again, no response except from Little Akio:
"Abraham Lincoln, 1863."
"Excellent!" said the teacher continuing,
"Let's try one a bit more difficult -- Who said,
'Ask not what your country can do for you,
but what you can do for your country'?"
Once again, Akio's was the only hand in the
air and he said: "John F. Kennedy, 1961."
The teacher snapped at the class, "Class, you
should be ashamed of yourselves, Little Akio
isn't from this country and he knows more
about our history than you do."
She heard a loud whisper: "F_ _ k the Japs."
"Who said that? -- I want to know right now!?
she angrily demanded.
Little Akio put his hand up, "General
MacArthur, 1945."
At that point, a student in the back said, "I'm
gonna puke.'
The teacher glares around and asks, 'All right!
-- Now who said that?"
Again, Little Akio says, "George Bush to the
Japanese Prime Minister, 1991."
Now furious, another student yells, "Oh yeah?
-- Suck this!"
Little Akio jumps out of his chair waving his
hand and shouts to the teacher, "Bill Clinton,
to Monica Lewinsky, 1997!"
Now with almost mob hysteria someone said,
"You little shit! -- If you say anything else -I'll kill you!"
Little Akio frantically yells at the top of his
voice, "Michael Jackson to the children
testifying against him, 2004."
The teacher fainted. As the class gathered
around the teacher on the floor, someone said,
"Oh shit, We're screwed!"
Little Akio said quietly, "The American

All Hell Is Going To Break Loose

Back in 2008, we got a taste of what a massive economic and financial crash
looks like. Millions of jobs were lost, tens of millions of people became dependent on government assistance, and trillions of dollars in wealth were wiped out
almost overnight.
It happens fast and it often comes without any warning to the general public.
In 2008 they were able restore some confidence in the system through massive
infusions of cash and a healthy dose of mainstream propaganda. But nearly
seven years on, as Michael Snyder points out in his analysis below, the system
is now more dependent on big banking cartels and centralized government
than ever before. And, because the underlying issues behind the crash of 2008
have never been resolved things like massive debt and leverage, for example
we now sit on the brink of a disaster so large that it literally threatens the
stability of the entire planet. One misstep here and were not just looking at a
stock market crash or more job losses, but a shift in the world order. And given
what weve seen throughout history from the elite decision makers in our
society, we should fully expect that the worst is coming.
headlines all over the world for crossing vast distances on a high-wire without
a safety net. Well, that is essentially what our too big to fail banks are doing
every single day. With each passing year, these banks have become even more
reckless, and so far there have not been any serious consequences.
But without a doubt, someday there will be.
What would you say about a bookie that took $200,000 in bets but that only
had $10,000 to cover those bets?
You would certainly call that bookie a fool.
But that is what our big banks are doing.
Right now, JPMorgan Chase has more than 67 trillion dollars in exposure to
derivatives but it only has 2.5 trillion dollars in assets.
Right now, Citibank has nearly 60 trillion dollars in exposure to derivatives but
it only has 1.9 trillion dollars in assets.
Right now, Goldman Sachs has more than 54 trillion dollars in exposure to
derivatives but it has less than a trillion dollars in assets.
Right now, Bank of America has more than 54 trillion dollars in exposure to
derivatives but it only has 2.2 trillion dollars in assets.
Right now, Morgan Stanley has more than 44 trillion dollars in exposure to
derivatives but it has less than a trillion dollars in assets.

There's much to discuss (mainly asset-management). This could be family-related too and yes, it may be
that concern about a relative's position prompts you to think about your own long-term situation. Though
your sign is said to be one of the more 'futuristic thinking', it's also appears true that you are resistant to
change. This week you may be reminded that change doesn't have to be a negative thing.
If you've been playing it straight, then perhaps there's nothing to worry about but if there are loose ends to
tidy up and uncomfortable facts to face, Though it might appear that others have the upper-hand and that
you need to play by their rules, it's likely that all they want is to arrive at a settlement. Your task is to find
agreement and ensure that what's then agreed is firm and acceptable.
It's sure to accentuate your need for freedom and independence. Yet you need something to be independent
from, so it's highly likely that relationship matters are particularly compelling presently. It's perhaps fair to
say that some people may be finding you too hot to handle whilst at the same time really wanting you on
their team.
Though you may be overwhelmed by tasks that simply have to be managed 'today', time does need to be set
aside to discuss options for 2015 and which tasks can now be passed further down the line. Just how good
are you at delegating? This could be quite a theme this week. A further possibility is that a certain group of
people will be delighted with work you've presented and, maybe, ask if you can take on more - but have this
completed by the end of the month.

Walton County Code Enforcement Removes Political

Over the weekend, the Walton County Code Enforcement Department erroneously removed a
number of political signs that were placed throughout the south end of the County. The signs
involved were in regard to South Walton Mosquito Board candidate Jim Crawford.
Due to a miscommunication within the Code Enforcement Department, the signs were removed
late in the afternoon on Saturday, October 25th. Once the error was recognized, the Code Enforcement Department replaced the signs early Monday morning, October 27 th.
The error that occurred within the Code Enforcement Department was not the product of any
complaint or function of any other candidate.
We apologize for the error and will continue to work diligently to provide the best code enforcement functions to the benefit of the County and its residents.
Seems funny they got time for this and then even screw it up. People who call and write to file
complaints are that way because this organization has turned a blind eye to residents rights.

Drug Prevention Grant For Walton County

Good news, the Walton County Prevention Coalition will get $125,000 to prevent youth substance use. And the even better news, the grant will continue for over five years for a total of
$625,000. October is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month.
The Walton County Prevention Coalition is chaired by Shayne Betts. Betts says we are not powerless against the challenge of drug use among young people here in Walton County. She says
the funding will allow the Coalition to help place more young people on the path towards success
and enable them to live healthier and safer lives. According to Betts, research shows that prevention is the most effective tool they have to reduce the terrible consequences associated with drug
use among young people. Underage drinking rates among Walton County youth has declined
over the past 10 years by 10%. Currently 27% of Walton County students have used alcohol
more than a sip in the last 30 days. Binge drinking rates of 5 or more drinks in a single setting
has dropped to the current rate of 15% after peaking in 2008 at 21%.
Youth reported a substantial 7.5% reduction in the past 30 day cigarette use of the last 10 years.
Currently only 11.5% of youth have smoked in the last month with 32% reporting cigarette use
in their lifetime down 19% over 10 years. Marijuana use among Walton County students has
declined over the past 10 years by 4%. Currently 14% of Walton County students have used
marijuana within the last 30 days. The gender of youth who use marijuana is nearly evenly split.
Methamphetamine use by students has continued to drop since 2001 by a total of 10%. Since
11% of students reported using in 2001, this represents an overall 90% reduction on the number
of youth reporting having used Meth. Currently 1.1% of students report using the drug in life-

Smells of the Holidays

By Rian Lyday
Yes, it IS already November! Where has the year disappeared to? The holidays are sneaking up on us, Christmas music on the radio and stores decked out in red and green. So many
visual stimulations and sounds are related to this time of year but what
about smell? The nose, our often overlooked sense, is responsible for so
much of what we love in life. We make unusual connections with our
sniffer and memories. I can smell a certain hair product and think of
scuba diving in the CaribbeanI used it every time I got back on the
boat. The smell of oranges makes me think of mornings in my hometown, where Tropicana was started. And when I was little, I called the
perfume my Mom always wore My Home Smell, because it did just
that, remind me of home. Why do scents recall memories for us?
Wellthe olfactory bulb is part of the brain's limbic system, which is
associated with memory and feeling, and sometimes called the
"emotional brain." The first time you smell a new scent, you link it to
an event, a person, a thing or a moment. Your brain creates a link between the smell and a memory so that, when you encounter the smell
again, the link is already there, ready to elicit a memory or a mood. So the next time you
smell lavender and think of summer at Grandmas or vanilla conjures the image of Christmas morning, you will understand why.
So what are Americans favorite scents? A recent study was done and the results may surprise you:
Hot dogs: Head to any sports stadium or major metropolitan area in the U.S., and theres
that smoky, chemically stabilized meat scent. At first, people visiting the US are afraid of
this strange meat in a bunbut before long people are drawn in and they realize that this
strange meat smell signifies intense deliciousness.
Apple pie: Whether it is the real thing or an artificial reproduction funneled into an air
freshener, sweet apple pie smell permeates Americafrom its cafes and fast food joints to
shops and homes.
Cinnamon: U.S. supermarkets, restaurants, malls and department stores tend to smell of
cinnamon. Some people cannot tolerate the smell while others revel in it!
Vanilla: Every American recipe for a sweet baked good calls for vanilla goodness. The
smell is delicious, if a little overpowering.
Pumpkin spice: Around late October, pumpkins take over America. And so does their
sweet aroma. But surprisingly, the unadorned flesh of these resplendent gourds doesnt
smell very nice at all. (Think rotting vegetable odor.) But put it in a pie, blend in sugar,
nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice, and it becomes a completely differentand delicioussmellingbeast.
Coffee: Java is a way of life in the USA, so its reliably found in the scent mix anywhere
that people gather. Bacon and maple syrup: The most aromatic example is pancakes with
bacon slathered in maple syrup. Breathe in deep next time you order a short stack. Bacon,
alone, has taken over the United States!
Fast food: America produces so much of the stuff the smell can be extremely concentrated.
This should be revolting but, sadly for our arteries and waistlines, is the exact opposite.
Air conditioning: Public buildings in the U.S. seem to keep the A/C on no matter what the
temperature is outside. Everywhere you go, that smell permeates the air and oddly enough,
its not unpleasant but relaxing. Laundry: In cities like New York where its common for
people to do their washing at Laundromats, the air can be thick with soapy flowers and
chemically reproduced meadow smell. You might actually find yourself pausing at those
sweet spots on the high street where the scented air is most concentrated to breathe it in.
