Lesson N 1: How to upload photos to


Facebook

1. Objectives

1.1. Conceptual objectives

To identify some strategies to develop listening comprehension skills.

To recognize de use of linking words and modal verbs.

To know parts of a tutorial video.

1.2. Procedural objectives

To listen to a tutorial video identifying general and specific information.

To design a tutorial video on How to upload photos to Facebook following a


structure given by the teacher and applying what they have learnt about the
components of a tutorial using linking words and modal verbs.

1.3. Objectives related to values/attitudes

To respect cooperative work.

3. Activities

3.1. 'Warm-Up activity' (5 minutes)

The teacher will give instructions to the students to play a game called
categories in which she will ask students to remain stood up during the game
and she will think on a category such as movies, and every students must take
a turn on thinking of a movie, if someone takes too long to give an answer
she/he will be out of the game. The categories will be movies, food, animals and
countries. The winner will be rewarded.

3.2. 'Pre-Reading activity' (15 minutes)

The teacher will show a flashcard with the word Social Networks. Then, she
will ask students what they know about it. After, they will be asked to go to the
whiteboard recognizing the logo of some social networks by writing the name
of them, so as to get students prior knowledge.

The teacher will pre-teach some keywords through a puzzle. The teacher will
give the students a piece of paper with the activity to be answered. After giving
some minutes to complete the activity, the teacher will ask any student at
random for the right words, so as to ensure they understand what is being
taught.

The students will predict the topic of the class based on the vocabulary they
were taught in the previous activity and their prior knowledge. The teacher will
ask them an open question about what they think the class is going to be about.

3.3. While-Reading activity (20 minutes)

The teacher will ask the students to write five words from the tutorial (How to
upload a video to youtube) that they were able to identify, meanwhile; they are
watching it.

After watching the video, the teacher will ask students to read the words they
got from it aloud and will correct or congratulate when it is necessary.

Then, the students will confirm their predictions on the topic of the class. The
teacher will ask two students (at random) for their predictions and she will
give a brief explanation about it.

The students will be given a worksheet and they will be asked to solve it in
pairs.

Then, the students will answer questions about general information through a
multiple choice activity.

Then, the video will be played a second time for students to answer items such
as question and sentences order in order to check specific information.

The teacher will monitor the students while they are working on the tasks and
help them if necessary. Once all of them have finished the tasks, the answers
will be checked and explained aloud to all the students to correct their
mistakes.

3.4. ' Post-Reading activities (40 minutes)


A. Oral and/or written activities

First, the teacher will give the instructions of the final task. They will be told to
design and prepare a tutorial about How to upload photos to Facebook.

Second, they will be asked to form groups of 5 or 6 people.

Third, the teacher will give them a piece of paper with the prompts the tutorial
should have. It will also be shown in a slide for them to have it at hand.

Fourth, they will be provided with some materials such as: poster boards,
markers, pencils, etc to be used as resources for their videos.

Once the students finish their work, the teacher will collect the videos.

Finally, the teacher will ask the students whether they enjoyed doing the
activity and how they felt doing the activity.

B. Linguistic reinforcement activities (10 minutes)

Through a Prezi Presentation, the teacher will give a brief explanation of the
use of some linking words and modal verbs.

The teacher will give a brief explanation and examples about it, and then she
will ask two or three students at random to go in front to answer some
exercises.

Finally, the teacher will correct and will give feedback about the contents by
making open questions such as: Can you name some linking words of addition?,
Can you give examples of instructions?

4. Initial, process and product assessment/evaluation

4.1. Initial assessment/evaluation

The students are supposed to brainstorm ideas so as to predict the topic of the
lesson so they will be assessed through observation.

4.2. Process assessment/evaluation

The teacher will monitor to ensure the students are doing their job in the right
way. Then, she will help them if necessary. It will be a process formative
assessment.

4.3. Product assessment/evaluation

The teacher will evaluate the product the students made using a rubric and a selfassessment instrument.
