CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Classroom management is very important in learning process. Why must we use

classroom management in learning process? There are many reasons that make it
becomes so important. First, it is important to create an ideal learning atmosphere.
Second, it is important to make the learning process run well as what the teacher
wants. Third, it is important because if there is no classroom management in the
learning process, the learning process will be uncontrolled. This uncontrolled, of course
happened because there are many constraints/obstacles/problems in the learning
process. It is not only come from the teacher and the student as the main character in
learning but also the classroom environment (Classroom facilities.
Talking about the constraints in learning process as I told just now, there are 3
aspects in classroom management.
1. Teacher (T)
Teacher constraints include skills:
Pedagogical skills including teaching and learning techniques (an ability of
the teacher in giving instruction, starting and leading eliciting)
Understanding learning obstacles including motivation (motivating the
students), interest (make the learning process become interesting), language
proficiency (using English in the classroom) and body language (using
gesture in the classroom)
Understanding how people learn language including how to grow learner
participation and interaction between teacher and student.
Skills to use teaching media and reluctance (the way how to make the
classroom active by using media)
Teachers language proficiency (to make the students be able to speak
English, the teacher must be fluent in English)
Teacher attitude, intentions, personality
Teachers relationship with the learners (a good relationship between the
teachers and the learners will make the learner love the teacher s teaching)
2. Learner (L)
There are typical learners in classroom:
The back row distractor

The back row distractor is the student who always sits in back row oh class
and disturbs his friends. There are 3 steps to solve it;
Facing (use eye contact while continuing to speak).
Bulging (stare until the student stops).
Asking (talk with the student after class to investigate the cause).
The non participant
The nonparticipant is the student who does not follow the learning process
or does not take part on it. There are 3 steps to solve it;
Ignore them (if they do not disturb their friends).
Come to them and ask (if they disturb their friends).
Ask other teacher (to make a valid data about the students behavior).
The overexuberant students
The overexuberant students is the student who has such a much attitude
(MPO). He/she always try to monopolize the class. There are also 3 steps to
solve it;
Just say thanks when he/she (everexuberant student) want to speak a
lot.
Say that there will be special time to comprehend his question or his
problem.
Talk with him individually.
3. Classroom environment (classroom Facilities)
Classroom facilities include:
Furniture (seating option in the classroom or seating arraignment)
Seating option has an important function in learning process. Seating
position is arranged based on the situation of classroom. When the teacher
wants to make discussion, the seating position will be made as a group
seating. Other situation will make different seating position.
Other supporting teaching and learning facilities
Other supporting facilities are needed to intensify the learning process. It
include in the quality of furniture and the complete of the furniture in the
classroom.
