Reliability Centered Maintenance & Optimization

for SAP Service and Asset ManagementTM

eliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) is a

proven, structured methodology for creating
effective maintenance strategies. The business
benefits of RCM are well documented. For decades,
manufacturers have used RCM to optimize equipment
performance, control risk, and improve reliability and
overall equipment effectiveness.

The Challenges of RCM Initiatives

The challenge often lies not with the process itself, but
with the difficulty of implementation. Most RCM tools are
stand-alone systems, disconnected from existing
maintenance, inspection and operational systems. As a
result:

Loading RCM recommendations is a manual, timeconsuming process.

Once loaded, the connection with the original RCM
analysis is lost.
Keeping the RCM process evergreen is nearly
impossible.

SAP and Meridium are addressing these fundamental

challenges with RCMO a new RCM solution tightly
integrated with SAP and built with the latest SAP
technology. RCMO greatly simplifies the process of
implementing RCM recommendations in SAP, and makes
it easy to measure performance and make adjustments over
time.

What Does Meridium RCMO Do?

RCMO is a Powered by SAP NetWeaver solution.
Through tight integration with SAP PM, RCMO:
TM

provides the framework for defining maintenance

strategies based upon RCMO and Failure Modes and
Effects Analysis (FMEA) principles.

integrates recommendations from RCM analyses into

Maintenance Plans in SAP.

drives automated re-evaluation of maintenance

strategies to ensure that the impact is constantly
measured for continuous improvement.

How Does RCMO Impact My Business?

RCMO helps you realize the benefits of maintenance
strategy development by providing integration of RCM
recommendations to maintenance strategies, then offering
a mechanism to re-evaluate those maintenance strategies
for effectiveness over time.
The resulting process improvements result in cost
reductions through:

optimized maintenance efficiency

improved reliability and equipment availability

improved maintenance resource allocation

Features and Functions

RCMO provides a fully integrated approach to
keeping RCM analyses and maintenance plans
evergreen with the following key capabilities:

Support for classical (RCM) and

streamlined (FMEA) maintenance strategy
development processes, which lets
companies configure the system to follow
the specific RCM or FMEA analysis
methodology of their choice.

Mapping of Failure Modes to SAP PM

Catalog Codes to enable easy reporting on
the frequency of failure modes.

A configurable consequence matrix that

lets you specify failure consequence calculations

that map directly to your business
environment.

RCM and FMEA template management,

which improves RCM productivity by letting
you leverage existing analyses results for
common systems and equipment.

Integration with SAP maintenance plans

and technical objects,

which provides
streamlined implementation of
maintenance strategies directly from
RCMO analyses.

Maintenance strategies are automatically

evaluated

against the actual performance

of the Functional Location or Equipment,
which provides a true, living RCM
program within SAP.

Standard reports that give you detailed

information from your RCM analysis or quick
reference to a summary of RCM results.

Integration with SAP Enterprise Asset Management

Existing Maintenance Plan Review

Implementation of Maintenance Plan and

The RCM team can review all of the existing tasks that have
been defined for the technical objects in the RCM/FMEA
study to ensure that there are no conflicts with existing
maintenance plans in SAP.

Linkage to RCM Recommendation

Maintenance Order and Notification Implementation

In some cases, an approved RCM recommendation may not

require the implementation of a maintenance plan - simply
creating a single maintenance order may mitigate the
potential failure. RCMO lets you quickly create a
maintenance order or notification for the technical object for
which the RCM recommendation has been written.
Strategy and Single Cycle Plan Implementation

Once a maintenance plan has been defined and approved by

the analysis team, RCMO facilitates creation of a Strategy or
Single Cycle Plan in SAP.

Once the maintenance plan, maintenance order, or

notification has been created in SAP, the RCM
recommendation is updated and linked to the SAP object.
This is the basis for connecting the RCM recommendation to
the maintenance plan, maintenance order, or notification in
SAP.
RCM Recommendation / Maintenance Strategy
Re-evaluation and Exception Alert

RCMO lets you define performance criteria for technical

objects that have RCM recommendations defined. If the reevaluation criteria are met, the RCM team is alerted and
directed to the RCM analysis, associated RCM
recommendations, and related maintenance plan or item.
