The Cross and The Sanctuary Part 5

Sermon Study Guide

1. What does the Bible say happened in heaven?
Revelation 12:7 And ________ broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the
dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer.
The word that is translated war is the Greek word polemos from which we get the word polemic. The war in heaven
had its roots in an ideological battle. Lucifer had insinuated in the minds of the angels arguments against the government
of God.
Revelation 12:4 His tail drew a ________ of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth.
The arguments of Lucifer were so compelling that one-third of the angels of heaven were convinced and joined forces
with him. There was a full-scale insurrection in heaven!
2. What were Satans arguments against God? Read Job 1:6-10
Job 1:8 Then the LORD said to Satan, Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the
earth, a ______________ and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?
We find a clue in Gods statement to Job. The conversation centers on Jobs blameless life. Satan claims that if Job was
put in the right situation he would sin and curse God. Thus the events are allowed to unfold. Notice the narrative at the
end of Job 1.
Job 1:22 In all this Job did not _______ nor charge God with wrong.
In the opening of the great controversy, Satan had declared that the ________ of God could not be obeyed When men
broke the law of God, and defied His will, Satan exulted. It was proved, he declared, that the ________ could not be
obeyed. Desire of Ages, 761
3. How does God respond to Satans claim that the law cannot be kept? The answer is found in the sanctuary.

The sanctuary shows us that there are ______ phases in the plan of salvation.
Phase 1: Court Yard
Phase 2: Holy Place
Phase 3: Most Holy Place
God wants to take us through each one of these phases in the plan of salvation. In the courtyard, Jesus saves us from the
penalty of sin. In the Holy Place, Jesus saves us from the power of sin. What about the Most Holy Place?
The Most Holy Place contained only one article of furniture, the Ark of the Covenant. In the Ark were the 10
commandments the law of God written on two tablets of stone (Deut. 10:5). What does God want to do with the law of
God?
Proverbs 7:2, 3 Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers;
Write them on the tablet of your ___________.
Hebrews 10:16 I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will ________ them.
Gods ultimate goal in the plan of salvation is to write His law in our hearts. He wants to bring us into that Most Holy
Place experience.
The law requires righteousness, a righteous life, a perfect character; and this man has not to give. He
___________ meet the claims of God's holy law. But Christ, coming to the earth as man, lived a holy life, and
developed a perfect character. These He offers as a free gift to all who will receive them. His life stands for the life
of men. Thus they have remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God. More than this, Christ
imbues men with the attributes of God. He builds up the human character after the similitude of the divine
character, a goodly fabric of spiritual strength and beauty. Thus the very righteousness of the law is fulfilled in the
believer in Christ. Desire of Ages, 762
Christ answers the final argument in the great controversy by writing the law of God on the hearts of mind of His people.
Rev. 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who __________ the commandments of God and the
faith of Jesus.
4. What does the law of God really represent?
Romans 13:10 Therefore _______ is the fulfillment of the law.
1 John 4:8 God is ________.
The law of God is love. Thus the law of God is the transcript of the character of God. Thus when we have the law of God
written in our hearts, we have the character of Gods love written in our hearts.
1 John 3:2 But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be ________ him, for we shall see him as he is.
When the _________________ of Christ shall be perfectly reproduced in His people, then He will come to claim
them as His own. Christs Object Lessons, 69
Thus the final demonstration before the universe in response to Satans arguments is for God to write His law in our
hearts. There will be a people who reflect the character of Jesus before men and angels. Gods name will be vindicated in
the Great Controversy.
Wont you let Gods character of love be reproduced in your heart today? Wont you let Him write His law in your heart?
He longs to set you free. Wont you accept Him today?
