COMPUTER STUDIES SCHEME OF WORK YEAR 7

Forward

The scheme of work designed for Computer Studies (Year 7 & 8) is intended to be used as a guide only, it should not be treated as
a proper sequence for teaching and learning. The main objective of the year 7 & 8 CS curriculum is to provide students with
fundamental skills so that they are well prepared to pursue the ‘O’ level Computer Studies. Teachers are advised to take into
consideration the availability of hardware and software and student basic knowledge in deciding the sequence of topics to be
taught. Teachers are also advised to allow students to develop practical skills in using more application packages if hardware and
software are available.

The ‘SHOULD DO’ section in the scheme of work should not be treated as activities to be attempted by good students only, other
students who show great interest in a particular field though academically weaker could also be given the opportunity to carry out
these activities. Many of the activities suggested allow you to assess student readiness and provide different options to challenge
and develop their learning to meet their potential.

Students are more likely to enjoy learning when they are able to be successful. They are more likely to be successful if they are
learning in a way that is natural to them, teachers are therefore encouraged to use different instructional approaches and
assessment methods to achieve maximum student learning.

When students learn to analyze information they are able to gain a deeper understanding of ideas, teachers are advised to facilitate
more discussion and exchange of ideas when dealing with topics such as “Social and Economic Implication of ICT’.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the Scheme of Work committee for their hard work and
contributions.
