Have a look at the picture. There are two people. Why do you think they are running? Where
are they? Are they going from or to the airport?
What can you do if you miss your plane?
3mins-roleplay
Imagine you are a tourist flying to... (Where would you like to fly?) and I am a clerk.
We are at the check-in desk and I am asking you questions:
May i have your passport?
How much luggage do you have?
Did you pack this bag yourself?
What is the purpose of your trip? (business, study, holiday, pleasure)
Do you have anything to declare? (you need to pay tax- alcohol, tobacco, carpets)
30min +/- Conversation- at the airport
(How old were you when you went on your first flight? ...)
15 min- On the board-RACISM (article is attached bellow, cut it in 3 pieces)
1. Read this article about racism. Read it quickly for the first time. You will have more time to
read it again. What is the first part and what is the other one? (3 parts -correct order).
2. Underline all the verbs which are in the past tense (for example: happened). Tell me their
infinitiv form.
3. Why do we have so many past simple verbs here and no present perfect verbs?
For example: this happened x this has happened

She called x she has called

(because it is a story, we tell a story-in the past)
4. Read each of the part again. Is there something you dont understand? Find synonyms in the
text:
Arrive- came / furious-angry, upset/ air hostess-flight attendant/ ma-madam /
calm down!-be quiet/ seats are occupied- full, used by sb else/

5. What did the white woman say to the air hostess?
Why did the air hostess asked the captain?
What did the air hostess said to the black person?
Who, do you think, was right? Why?
Do you think people in your country would behave the same to a black person?
----------------------------This happened on TAM airlines (South-American airlines)
A 50 year old white woman arrived at her seat and saw that the passenger next to her was a
black man.
Visibly furious, she called the air hostess.
"What's the problem, ma?" the hostess asked her
"Can't you see?" the lady said - "I was given a seat next to a black man. I can't seat here next
to him. You have to change my seat"
- "Please, calm down, ma" - said the hostess
"Unfortunately, all the seats are occupied, but I'm still going to check if we have any."
The hostess left and returned some minutes later.
"Madam, as I told you, there isn't any empty seat in this class- economy class.
But I spoke to the captain and he confirmed that there isn't any empty seats in the economy
class. We only have seats in the first class."
And before the woman said anything, the hostess continued
"Look, it is unusual for our company to allow a passenger from the economy class change to
the first class.
However, given the circumstances, the commandant thinks that it would be a scandal to make
a passenger travel sat next to an unpleasant person."
And turning to the black man, the hostess said:
"Which means, Sir, if you would be so nice to pack your handbag, we have reserved you a
seat in the first class..."

And all the passengers nearby, who were shocked to see the scene started applauding, some
standing on their feet."
