I leave in a special place that is called Greece.

Even more special is a southern island called

Crete.the wind capacity of Greece is extremely big because of the many islands that we have
in our region.In the middle of 20th century ,crete was one of the first globally that had
thousand of traditional windmills of total capacity of 5MW in the eastern place.

If you can see in the map In Crete we have many places with satisfactory wind speed from
6-7 m/sec and especially in the east side that we have many places with more than 10 m/sec
wind speed.

As we can see from the table above the places with speeds over 9 m/sec are very big
numerously.Many companies have expressed their interest of building huge wind parks of
1200 1700 wind turbines , whose total power can pass the number of 3000MW.In the
region of Crete have anylized about 70 places in the mountains that are capable to produce
satisfactory energy.28 of these places are running or are about to run.
All these data are so informative and very optimistic but there are problems , NIMBY
problems.First of all the local residents are not informed really well and some are against of
these energies and many licenses have stopped and the reason is this one.Second , the
ridges of Crete harbor rare bird habitats. In fact many areas are only passes for migratory
birds. In Crete also have confirmed deaths of raptors. Third , wind farm noise that cause may
eliminate important habitats of birds and restrict the positions of their houses. General
wildlife due to habitat degradation upset and disturbed the balance of species at risk of
deterioration of the qualitative and quantitative composition of micro and macrofauna.

The main problem instead of these disadvantages for someone that wants to finance such
a program is the big paper work and not programmed work from the official authorities from
the government and the resistance that he will face from the local residence.A good answer
to this would be : 1.A really serious environmental work , 2. A big distance from residence
so that the disadvantages reduce to minimum such as sound , electromagnetic fields .3.A
very good choice of the place due to the birds habitats , to avoid not to be in a migration
zone.4.It could be a park o mix wind and solar energy park.crete is a really bigplace full of air
but also full of sun and clean weather.Wind energy in the cold times and solar energy in the
hot times.Or maby it could be mix with hydro power plant too,In fact there is a proposition
of a mix wind and hydro power park now in crete with 14 wind turbines and an hydro power
plant with a capacity of 2 million m 3 that can produce in total 35 MW.
At last I would like to say that we should act and think in parrarel with our future.Fossil
fuels are reducing more and more .We eventually will want to find other ways to gain our
energy.Wind , solar , hydro and all kind of renewable energies are free to get in whatever
amount we can.They dont emit any greenhouse gasses and they are making our quality of
life and air better.The sake of our planet is in our hands , we have so much free energy out
there :
