Reflection on the Theory

1. What questions do you still have about this theory (provide at least
two discussion questions for the class)
2. What did you like about this theory?
3. What did you dislike about this theory?
4. How likely are you to use this theory in your own practice?

1.

A. Based on Virginia Satirs theory, she said that all humans have
ability to grow. What it means and give a reason to support that
idea?
B. Our behaviour reflects what we have learned. Learning is the basis of behaviour.
Discuss the following statements and indicate an appropriate example.

2. One of Satirs model state that humans behaviour reflects what they have learned.
Learning is the basis of behaviour. To change behaviour, human need to have new
learning. To accomplish new learning, they need a motive, a purpose, a nurturing
context, and a trust in something from the outside to help them. I like this theory
because that show to use that learning is most important thing to use. From the
leaning activities, we can shape our behaviour. If someone or somebody learns
something in a positive way, they can develop a good behaviour. And to learn
something in their live, human need to be motivated and have their own purpose. That
means everyone in this world need to be motivated and need their own purpose in
their live.

3. This theory state that human from parental viewing, validate their own self-worth as
human beings rather than in their roles. I dont agree with that because as a human,
we must validate our own self-worth as human beings and at the same time, we also
need to consider our roles in community. For example, as a leader in community, if
your follower facing a problem and need your help, you as a leader must consider
both of these two elements in order to help that person.

4. As a counsellor or psychologies, I will use family reconstruction method. Family

reconstruction allows people to relive past experiences from formative years in the
family of origin. It also provide new way of seeing self and family of origin, thus
seeing present and future in a new perspective. Family reconstruction also offer an
opportunity to make sense of all relational parts of our experience and allow people to
see themselves and family members in a way that exposes their beliefs, ignorance,
unawareness, and misunderstanding. In the other hand, it also helps body and mind
move beyond stress, survival and coping to positive way of expressing and
experiencing life. There are several processes in family reconstruction idea. First, is
introduction of clients construction of family map that consist family life chronology
and wheel of life history. Second is sculpting of family of origin and parents family
of origin. Next process is client will externalizes construct of family dynamics, and
identifies perceptions and focus on major learning within parent family of feelings
when under stress. Next is express feelings, verbalize own unmet expectations. Client
need to accept self and parents similarities and identify strengths and weaknesses
differences. With this method, I can understand my client background and able to
choose the best solution to help them.
