    Background
    Par,Inc.,manufacturesgolfequipment.ManagementbelievesthatPar'smarketsharecouldbe
    increasedwiththeintroductionofacutresistant,longerlastinggolfball.Therefore,theresearchgroup
    atParinvestigatesanewgolfballcoatingdesignedtoresistcutsandprovideamoredurableball.The
    testswiththecoatingshowpromisingresults.

    Oneoftheresearchers,Billvoicedconcernabouttheeffectofthenewcoatingondriving
    distances.Parwouldlikethenewcutresistantballtoofferdrivingdistancescomparabletothoseofthe
    currentmodelgolfball.Tocomparethedrivingdistancesforthetwoballs,40ballsofboththenewand
    thecurrentmodelsweresubjectedtodistancetests.Thetestingwasperformedwithamechanical
    hittingmachinesothatanydifferencebetweenthemeandistancesforthetwomodelscouldbe
    attributedtoadifferenceinthedesign.Theresultsofthetests,withdistancesmeasuredtothenearest
    yard,follow.ThesedataareavailableinthedatasetGolf.
