Music Tracking
W hen you’re tracking a band in your studio,
there are certain features that musicians
and producers demand from a recording console.
The DM-3200 gives you eight aux sends so that you
can give individual cue mixes to each musician
and have some left over to buss to the two built-in
effects. It has a professional control room section
with talkback mic and slate functions as well as
three playback source selection switches.
For recording large ensembles you get 16 micro-
phone preamps, each with analog insert, phantom
power (selectable in groups of four) and a –20dB
pad switch. Four assignable analog inputs are pro-
vided, for inserting your favorite tube compressor
on a console channel, or you can use the 4-band
EQ and dynamics found on every channel.
When the sound is dialed in, send that channel
to its own track with the Direct button or combine
inputs to the 16 busses. There are plenty of digital
and analog I/O options to combine stand-alone hard
disk recorders (like the TASCAM X-48), analog tape
recorders or computer-based DAW recorders. The
affordable DM-3200 handles all of the routing and
bussing you need in a professional studio, allowing
you to concentrate on running your session.
Post Production and Gaming
M ixing inside of a computer is difficult enough
in stereo, and when you start working on
surround projects, managing and monitoring all
of the ins and outs becomes more like air traffic
control. The DM-3200 becomes your control center
for mixing large projects with dozens of channels.
It can mix your tracks with one snapshot, and with
two button presses you’re ready to transfer them
to a dubber or video deck.
Just connect your DAW interface, like Digidesign’s
192 Digital I/O for Pro Tools®, to one of the digital
connections on the rear panel (or use our optional
IF-FW/DM FireWire interface card). The DM-3200
even acts as a HUI controller for Pro Tools, allowing
you to mix some channels in the DAW and others
in the console.
The DM-3200 is an outstanding choice for mix-
ing in surround, with 5.1 and even 6.1 automated
panning. The 16 busses become two surround
busses in surround mode, allowing you to buss
channels to discrete stems. The optional IF-SM/DM
Surround Monitoring card provides downmixing
to stereo, individual output solo/mute and bass
management features to the console.

Live Sound and House of Worship
L ike the DM-24, the DM-3200 makes a reliable
choice for sound reinforcement. Its 16 mic in-
puts give you plenty of channels for performances
or services, and more mic inputs can be added as
needed using external rackmount preamps with
digital outputs. Each of the 32 channels features
four-band parametric EQ, gating and compression
processing. Two built-in effects processors can ac-
cess a variety of great-sounding effects processors,
including a reverb processor by TC Works.
If you’re the one installing the DM-3200 into a
facility, you can program a variety of settings and
back up your programs to a Compact Flash card.
Recalling snapshots is done using dedicated buttons
on the front panel, so loading a mixer setting is as
simple as changing channels on a TV remote.
The rear panel of the DM-3200 is well-stocked
with balanced and digital I/O, allowing ample con-
nectivity to crossovers, as well as CD and cassette
recorders such as our popular CC-222 mkII.
Project Studio Recording
A dd the optional IF-FW/DM interface card to
the DM-3200, and it becomes the ultimate
computer interface and mixing surface for your
workstation software. The IF-FW/DM allows a
single FireWire cable to transmit 32 channels from
your computer to the DM-3200 and another 16
channels back to the computer for recording. The
card even functions as a 16 by 8 interface at 96kHz.
Using this expansion card, no other interface or
hardware is needed for 48kHz or 96kHz recording
to a computer.
The DM-3200 has a fader layer, labeled“Remote,”
that’s dedicated to controlling the mixing facilities
in your DAW software. There are two modes of
control: Mackie Control and Mackie HUI emula-
tion. The DM-3200’s solid transport keys can be
mapped to your software in any fader layer, and
adjustments to your software mixer is a fader
layer away.
The DM-3200 + IF-FW/DM combination gives
you the best of both worlds: computer recording
and DAW control with world-class mixing, auto-
mation and monitoring features.

Tascam DR-680 DR-680 Portable Multi-Track Recorder The DR-680 brings multi-track portable recording within reach of any

The DR-680 brings multi-track portable recording within reach of any musician for polished live, location and surround recording eight tracks can be recorded to solid-state SD card media at 96 kHz / 24-bit Broadcast WAV quality. Six mic inputs provide 60 d and phantom power for clear recordings with condenser microphones. Record the six analogue input signals along with a digital source for 8-track recording.

Inputs can be monitored using a built-in mixer with level and pan controls for each input. The stereo mixdown can even be recor with the six analogue input signals for quick stereo playback of the event. There’s even a built-in speaker to check recordings wit headphones.

The DR-680 is also able to capture stereo audio at 192 kHz / 24-bit for audiophile-quality masters or record up to four channels simultaneuously in space-saving MP3 format (firmware v1.10 or higher) – ideal for minutes recording. And for up to 16-track rec battery power two units can be connected with a cascade cable. An AC adapter, a USB cable and a shoulder strap are included standard.

DV-RA1000HD High-Definition Audio/DSD Master Recorder The DV-RA1000HD is an extended version of the DV-RA1000

The DV-RA1000HD is an extended version of the DV-RA1000 Master Recorder with an internal hard disk drive and powerful co functions. It records high-definition audio at up to 192kHz/24bit to DVD+RW or DVD-RW media or hard disk and is able to create audio CDs (16-bit/44.1kHz) on CD-R and CD-RW discs. It also features the DSD format, which is the basis for the audiophile Su CD (SACD), as an available recording format. With the DSD method, audio is being directly recorded as a high-resolution, unco digital signal to reproduce the original analogue waveform in excellent quality.

The DV-RA1000HD’s copy functions enable users to copy audio files from CD/DVD±RW to the hard disk and vice versa. For arc purposes, audio data can also be written to DVD-R and DVD+R media. The UDF 1.5 format for DVDs ensures compatibility with drives.

Like the DV-RA1000, the DV-RA1000HD features professional inputs and outputs including AES/EBU, SDIF-3, RS-232C, USB 2 computer keyboard connector for text input.User-definable function keys, a large, backlit LC display, Pitch Control (±6%), headp output and a host of other playback and recording functions make the DV-RA1000HD a versatile world-class recorder.

Tascam HD-R1 HD-R1 Solid-State Audio Recorder The HD-R1 is a two-channel, single rack-mount recording and playback

The HD-R1 is a two-channel, single rack-mount recording and playback device created with the sound contractor in mind. Utilizi highly reliable CompactFlash card, the HD-R1 records PCM files at up to 96 kHz or MP3 files at 44.1/48 kHz both with 16/24-bit File transfer can be accomplished via Ethernet, USB, or a card reader. The ability to control the unit remotely is provided via RS- Parallel, and RJ45 100-Mbit Ethernet.

To further enhance the HD-R1’s feature set, mic preamps with 20-dB PAD and phantom power (rear-panel selectable) have bee included. A variety of contractor-friendly I/O options, such as unbalanced RCA, balanced XLR and Euroblock, and SPDIF digital and optical) are also available.

And of course … the HD-R1 offers traditional source device features like power-on play, front panel rotary input level controls, a headphone jack with level control, and a variety of playback modes.
