ASCE STUDENT ORGANIZATION GOALS

Vision Statement:

The purpose of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student chapter is to increase
participation and interest in the civil engineering discipline through involvement with practicing
engineers, the national organization, and community service. The student chapter brings in
practicing engineers to inform students about the civil engineering field. Social events are also
held so that students can get to know each other outside of class. There are also opportunities for
students to participate in national student competitions.
Goals and Assessment:
Goal #1: Establish ASCE as an official Student Chapter
Action Plan: Hold activities or meetings every 2 weeks
Assessment of Goal #1: Started out a little slow but have successfully met this goal during the Winter 2014 semester
Follow-up Plan for Goal #1: Will attempt to pre plan this again for Spring and Fall 2014 semesters

Goal #2: Promote the new program to potential members

Action Plan: Waive the fee for freshmen, present to ME 101 class (engineering introduction course), have frequent
activities, create ways for member participation, encourage chapter participation through leadership
opportunities.
Assessment of Goal #2: Waived fee, have had many activities, had a T-shirt design competition.
Follow-up Plan for Goal #2: Presented to ME 101 Class. Selected a final t-shirt design and distributed to members.
Plan to get more involved with competitions, such as Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge Design, as soon as we
are an official chapter.
