TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Chiranjjeevi Wind Energy Limited is one of the leading manufacturers of
technologically

advanced,

high-performance

and

cost-efficient

wind

turbines.
Chiranjjeevi Wind Energy Limited known as CWEL has installed more than
600 Wind Turbines in various states of India like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka,
Maharashtra and Gujarat. CWEL Wind Turbines are Robust in construction,
reliable in operation and easy to maintain.
CWEL Wind Turbines are developed to specifically meet the diverse needs
of customers all around the world.

SALIENT FEATURES OF CWELs C 30 / 250 KW WIND

TURBINE

Nacelle Design: - All the wind turbines have Nacelle Bed on which the
Main Bearing and the Generator are mounted. The Gear Box will be
suspended type, leading to misalignment after few days. This creates
problem in the Gear Wheels and Bearings in the Gear Box.
CWELs Nacelle is an integrated system and eliminates the Nacelle Bed.
Hence, there is no chance for any misalignment of the Gear Box.
Gear Oil: - Most of the wind turbine manufacturers use mineral oil for
the Gear Box to economize the cost. Mineral oil is supposed to be
replaced every year. And when the temperature goes high, it loses its
character of viscosity which creates a problem in the Lubrication System
of

the

Gear

Box.

CWEL uses only Synthetic Oil for the Gear Box where the life of the Oil
is minimum 7 years. Also when the temperature goes high, it does not
loose its viscosity. Hence, the Gear Box life is increased.
Lubrication System: - All the wind turbines have splash lubrication
i.e. the Gear wheel is dipped into the oil tank and by rotation it is
lubricated

to

other

Gear

Wheels.

In addition to splash lubrication, CWELs wind turbines are fitted with

forced lubrication, i.e. when the machine starts running, the gear oil
pump takes the oil from the oil tank and filters through oil filter and the
oil is lubricated by force uniformly to all the Gear Wheels. So, all the
Gear Wheels are assured of 100% lubrication. Hence, there will not be
any Gear Box problem because of the lubrication.

Dual Winding Generator: - Most of the wind turbines are having

Generator with single winding whereas CWELs Generators are Dual
Winding Generator taking the advantages of low and medium wind
also. The Generator is directly flange mounted on the rear side of the
Gearbox through a Flexible coupling thereby reducing the Transmission
losses.
Gear Box Construction: - Most of the Wind Turbine Gear Boxes are
Two Stage Gear Box where the torque on the Gear Box is more.
Whereas, CWELs Gear Box is Three Stage Gear Box where the torque
is distributed equally in three stages thereby reducing the strain on the
Gear Box.
Wind vane: - Wind Vane senses the direction of Wind and sends
signals to the controller, which in turn activates the yaw motor to turn
the turbine perpendicular to the wind direction.
Anemometer: - Anemometer is used to sense the velocity of wind. It
sends the signal to the controller for monitoring the Wind Velocity.
Oil Filter: - Oil filter is used to filter the Gear oil so that Lubricating Oil
gets filtered constantly thereby increasing the durability of Gear oil.
Yaw System: - Yaw system is used to orient the Wind Turbine
towards the direction of wind. Yaw function is controlled by the wind
turbine controller via signals from the wind vane.

Oil pressure Gauge: - It is used to measure the Gear oil pressure so

that if there is abnormal increase in Gear oil pressure, the machine is
stopped.
Temperature Gauge: When the Gear oil temperature increases above
a specific level, it sends signal to the Controller thereby stopping the
machine.
Manhole: - Manhole is provided for entry of service personnel in to the
Nacelle.
Hydraulic power pack: - The Hydraulic power pack is mounted on a
metallic plate at the gear box. The required hydraulic pressure for the
operation of the blade tip brakes, disc brake and yaw brake is imparted
by the hydraulic Power pack.
Hub: Hub is directly mounted on slow speed shaft. Hence transmission
loss is very minimum.

Advantages of Aero-Dynamic Braking

During Stopping of the machine, the blade tip is turned to 90
degrees, thereby acting as a aerodynamic brake, and when the Rotor
RPM is reduced to 7 or 8 RPM Disc brake is applied bringing the
machine to a halt. Only very minimum load is transmitted to Disc
brake Caliper, Disc brake and Gear box thereby increasing the life of
these components.
