Personnel should avoid wearing synthetic clothing and shoes with plastic soles, as
these encourage the build-up of electrostatic charge.
Before handling modules, personnel should be discharged of electrostatic charging.
For this reason personnel should always put on a grounded wrist strap before changing a module.
ESDs should not be brought in contact with electrostatically charged or chargeable
objects.
ESDs should only come in contact with high quality discharging material ("gentle"
discharging), i.e. should not be made subject to "harsh" discharging with, for example, a metal plate.
ESDs should be set down on grounded surfaces only (flexible bases with a grounding connection for servicing purposes)
ESDs should not be brought into the vicinity of strong DC electrical fields, e.g. cathode ray tubes/monitors (safety distance at least 10 cm).
All tools and test equipment should be discharged of electrostatic charging before
handling modules.
ESDs should only be transported in appropriate packing. A grounded wrist strap
must be put on before removing ESDs.
Modules should only be touched by their edges. Components or printed circuits
should not be touched.

System Voltages
All the system internal units require a power supply of -48 V DC (positive pole grounded). The external power supply is provided by AC mains supply of 230 V. Only trained
personnel should carry out those jobs.
Care must be taken because some parts heat up to a high operating temperature.
This warning must appear in the original German text:
Alle internen Systemeinheiten bentigen eine Gleichspannung von -48 V DC (positiver
Pol an Masse). Die externe Stromversorgung erfolgt ber eine Wechselspannung von
230 V. Nur ausgebildetes Personal darf entsprechende Arbeiten bernehmen.
Weiterhin ist zu beachten, dass sich einige Bauteile stark erhitzen.
Protection against excessive voltage contact
1.2.3
DANGER
When dealing with the power supply, note regulation VDE0105 (operation of heavy
current systems) with regard to the safety precautions to be taken.
Handling of Components
NOTE
When handling devices like PCs, monitors, printers, tape drives, etc. note the manufacturers instructions.
Cards/modules
Avoid touching the component connections, connector contacts or conductor tracks
(even when you are carefully grounded).
When extracting and inserting cards or modules, make sure you use the pulling and
plugging handles provided!
Modules which are in a shielded unopened housing are protected in any event.
NOTE
European standard EN50082-1 contains instructions on correct handling of electrostatic sensitive devices.
CAUTION
If the cards/modules are only being gripped by their pulling and plugging handles, they
should not be transported in a horizontal position (danger of breakage).
When you take a card/module out of its place in the system, lay it down on an antistatic
mat.
Make sure that all measuring equipment used is grounded.
If you are using ungrounded measuring equipment, briefly connect the measuring probe
to ground (discharge it) before performing measurements on cards or modules.
The plug connectors are unique coded to ensure that each card/module can only be fully
inserted into a mounting location which cannot cause any damage to the component.

Cards/modules of the same type are fully interchangeable, provided that their hardware
settings are corresponding (if applicable).
Moist cards/modules
After storage in a humid environment, modules with condensation moisture must be
dried before they are used. This is important because otherwise the modules will be
damaged or destroyed.
Special hint regarding the optical modules
Cards/modules containing a laser device are marked with labels according to EN 60825
/ IEC 60825 and EN 60825-1 / IEC 60825-1.
LASER CLASS 1
Fig. 1.2
WARNING
To avoid damage to health, you must observe the regulations regarding protection
against radiation from laser devices (EN 60825 / IEC 60825). You must always use
dedicated laser-protective goggles. Never look into open fiber-optic cable ends, as this
may damage your eyes.
Fiber-optic cables must be handled appropriately and with due care. Cable must not be
bent more tightly than the minimum bending radius (30 mm).
Optical connectors must not, in any circumstance, become kinked - even for a short period - or be subjected to impact loads. Similarly, tensile loading must not be imposed on
these connectors.
Protective covers must be fitted to fiber-optic (FO) connectors that are exposed, i.e. not
connected.
Mechanical damage of the FO surfaces inside optical connector surfaces reduces the
transmission quality (increased attenuation).

CE Declaration of Conformity
Important!
The declaration of CE conformity for the product is fulfilled if the setup and wiring are
carried out as described in the manual and the documents contained therein, such as
installation instructions, cable lists, etc. Project-specific documentation should be taken
into account as appropriate. Deviations from specifications or unauthorized changes in
the setup, such as the use of cable types with less shielding, can lead to a violation of
CE safety requirements. In such cases, the declaration of conformity is rendered void.
The responsibility for the resulting problems passes to the individual who caused the
deviation.

3.1
Visual Inspection
A visual inspection must be performed for all delivered parts to make sure that the shelter is not damaged and the quantity and location of the cards/modules is correct.
Previous to this inspection the installation of the system as well as the shelter and system cabling was carried out as described in the Installation Manual IMN:NB-441.
3.1.1
Delivery Correctness
In compliance with the commissioning concept all systems will be delivered to the site
according to customers purchase order. In association with the manufacturing policy
the configuration of the system is done strictly conform to the ordering requirements for
that particular site and finally tested before shipping.
Under these circumstances the verification of the address as per shipping documents
with the actual site address guarantees the completeness of the system in quality and
quantity.
3.1.2
Signs of Damage
Inspect the entire shelter for signs of damage like scratches or dents. If the system is
damaged it may be concluded that the equipment was handled unprofessionally during
transportation or installation. Significant damage indicates that the final factory test
guarantee is no longer valid.
In this case the complete shelter should be returned whereas small scratches can be
corrected on site by appropriate paint work.
3.1.3
Unbroken Seals
The final test at the factory is carried out in the right configuration according to the site
requirements. A record of these pre-commissioning tests and results is provided together with the shipping documents. To avoid a time consuming check of the equipped parts
by comparing code and serial numbers on their labels against the test result table, all
parts are sealed by an adhesive sticker.
Unbroken seals at all components act as an indicator for an unchanged configuration.
Therefore the system can be considered to fulfill all specifications as reported in the precommissioning protocol without any restrictions.

Make sure that the antenna cable parameters are document after the installation of the
antenna system is completed according to the installation manual:
- length and type of all antenna feeder cables
- length and type of all antenna jumper cables
Information about the cable parameters supplied by subcontractors may be required.
AMCO mode
MUCO mode
The AMCO mode is given when no TMA is involved and the MUCO mode has to be chosen if a TMA is installed. This mode setting is done by one of the DIP-switches whereas
the other DIP-switches are relevant for the attenuation in a range from 0 to 12 dB in
steps of 1 dB.
Check the DIP-switch settings according to the required mode and attenuation. The attenuation is determined by the site specific antenna cable type and length and should
already be set at the factory to the required values.
For detailed information about the DIP-switch location and the attenuation matrix refer
to the Hardware Manual HWMN:Node B Cards/Modules. If necessary to define the attenuation please carry on with the next sub-chapter.
