AXELERATE-PROBLEM STATEMENT

Manufacture a wireless, remote controlled machine in accordance

with the machine specifications given below, which can race
against other opponents on an off-road dirt track with many obstacles.
MACHINE SPECIFICATIONS:

1. BODY

Machine should fit in a box of dimensions 800mm x 500mm x

600mm at any moment of time during the race. The external
device which is used to control the machine is not included in
the size constraint.
2. ENGINE

Maximum piston displacement allowed is 4.5cc.

There is no restriction on the type of IC engine (either glow or

diesel cycle engine), but the engine must have throttle control.

Only one IC engine should be used in the machine. Use of any

other sources such as DC motors, chemicals, compressed gas,
rockets etc. for propulsion is not allowed.
3. FUEL

The fuel to be is should only have these constituents: methanol, castor oil/synthetic oil, nitro methane. The percentage of
nitro methane should not exceed 20% by volume in the fuel.

Atmost one filter can be used in the fuel line.

4. POWER SUPPLY

The machine must have an on-board power supply to provide

power to any mechanism requiring electric power.

The maximum potential difference across any two points in the

vehicle should not exceed 12 volts.

5. RADIO CONTROLLERS

The teams will have to control three components of the car

viz.
1.Engine throttle
2.Steering
3.Brake system.

The machine has to be necessarily controlled by a wireless remote control system.

Note that participants are advised to bring two remote controls

of distinct frequencies or a dual frequency remote control (in
order to avoid interference with any other team).
6. CONTROLLING

DC motors and servos can be used for steering mechanisms or

any other control mechanisms apart from propulsion.
7. GENERAL RULES

It is compulsory to incorporate a braking mechanism in the car.

The components of the machine can be broadly divided into

two categories -----1.FUNCTIONAL PARTS: gears, differential gear, engine,
springs, shock absorbers, servo motors (non propulsion purposes only), batteries, wheels and wheel hubs; these parts can
be purchased directly from the market.
2.STRUCTURAL PARTS: chassis, steering mechanism, shock
towers; these parts have to be necessarily fabricated manually
in workshops.

For the purpose of stability of vehicle, following modifications

are recommended :
1.Anti-sway bars
2.Air filters to prevent clogging of engine by dust
3.Clutch mechanism to prevent engine from dying out at
any stage of the race .
4.Reverse-gear mechanism
5.Cooling mechanism to prevent unnecessary heating of car
6.Spoilers and impact attenuators(bumpers)

TRACK

The track will consist of the following hurdles
