Heres What Our Advertisers Have To Say...

As a new business owner in LaGrange, I believe one of my better decisions was the one I made to meet with Bill Lowe and allow him to design an ad to put in the
Banner about my business, Curves of LaGrange. Apparently, a lot of women read the Banner because the phone calls started coming in from women who said they saw
our ad in the Banner. Since that started we have been voted the number # 1 Weight Loss Center in LaGrange. Our membership has grown so much that the Corporate
Office of Curves International sent us an e-mail stating that in the states of Georgia, South Carolinia and Tenn. we were in the third place for membership growth in
2014. Thank you to Bill and his staff at the Banner.
- Nancy Sue Laminack, Curves Of LaGrange
The Banner really helps me out. It is the place where people look for deals. They often bring a copy of the Banner with them when they shop. It has been around for a
long time (since 1999), and has proven to be well worth the money to advertise.
- John Parker, Badcock & More Home Furnishings
Since we've been advertising in the Troup County Banner, our business has more than doubled! Having an advertisement in a locally-produced publication that reaches
more homes than any other has been great for our business!
- Chris Hagebak, 809 Gallery Of Art
I have been advertising with the Banner for over 10 years, not once have I been pressured. I always recommend the Banner as I have seen many results over the years.
Its always nice to hear I saw your ad in the Banner". Local, nice and honest people!
- Angie & Kenneth Bradley, Bradleys Antiques

My School Days
I debated with myself what I
should write about. I decided to
write about
my home town, Lagrange
Georgia. The high school years.
It might bring back
some memories to some. My
50th class reunion has just past.
Seems like such a long time.
I've lived here all my life. I
have visited many places but
I'm always glad
to get back home.

going there. It back fired on me

once when a man on a motorcycle pulled out
in front of me just before I got
to Red's. He wasn't hurt but his
ride was totaled
and I happen to be driving my
brother's Corvair. Had to have
work done on it
but it was back in service
before long. This time red so I
could be seen.

I think what brought this story

to mind was a visit to Crockett
Bros. to get
gas. My how things have
changed. When I was a teenager going to
Troup High School, on
Whitesville Rd., at that time, I
drove a 1957 Chevy.
I loved that car. Wish I still had
it. I could pull into a gas station, get enough
gas to last me through the night
for a dollar bill.

One of my friends I went to

school with, Jerry Cooley,
pumped my gas. We
talked about being able to
remember so vividly what happened fifty years
ago but can't remember what
happened yesterday. He did the
same thing I did.
He drove a 1950 Dodge Coupe
and would save his lunch
money to buy gas. I'm
sure we passed each other
many times going to all our
hang outs.

I would drive from The Big

Oak on Hogansville Rd. to The
Chick'in Treat on
Commerce, all the way across
town to Tot's Skating Rink and
sometimes to
Red's Skating Rink. Mom didn't like Red's so much so I tried
not to mention

I was usually a good kid, but I

would try my parents from time
to time.I would
stay out late sometimes. Hang
out with the wrong kids. I didn't know what drugs
were. A drug for me was a
headache pill. The biggest
problem at Troup High school

was chewing gum in Mrs.

Hamer's class or running in the
hall trying to beat the
late bell. Maybe writing notes
in class. From time to time
there was a fight in the hall
between girlfriend and
boyfriend. Man, how things
have changed.
There was the time Charles
Sellers stole my shoe and hid it
in Biology class. I had to
walk to Home Ec. barefoot.
Mrs. brown sent me back to
find my shoe which he had
put in a desk. Another time
when I wrote Yankee Go Home
and North to Alaska on the
chalkboard because we had a
teacher that hated the south. No
one told on me, which
was a surprise.
I was in the first band at THS.
We had some interesting times
going to the football
games. One time when it was
so cold about half the band had
frostbite because all we
had were white sneakers.
My mom and dad always went
to the games. They never complained but I think
sometimes they wished they
could stay home. With my
brother and I in band they

wouldn't miss the game.

It is funny how we remember
the little things. Once in Miss
Hanson's home room
I stood at the door keeping
watch for some of the other
kids in class running and
playing. I saw Miss Hanson
come out of Mr. Bowers office
and yelled here she comes.
About that time one of the
boys, Johnny, in the excitement
decided to shut the door
while my hand was still in it.
Needless to say we were caught
up with. Miss Hanson
took me to the girl's restroom
to try and stop the bleeding and
the Johnny, without
thinking, tried to go in too. I
ended up going to the doctor
with Johnny going too in
Mr Patterson's car. I had two
broken fingers. Poor Johnny
suffered more then I did.
He carried my books for a
while and would help me all he
could out of guilt.
I remember the day John F.
Kennedy was shot. I was in
Mrs. Hamer's History
class. About 11:00 the speakers
came on and Mr. Bowers told
us what had happened.

Christs Corner
Psalms 100:4 Enter into his
gates with thanksgiving,
and into his courts with
praise: be thankful unto
him, and bless his name.

I remember in the third

grade (of a public
school) our teacher had
us memorize the 100th
Psalm.
I was lost and it didn't
mean anything to me at
the time, but, a seed was
planted. I now find great
comfort in this psalm. In
verse 4, I learn how we
should go to church.
Many people go to
church because they
think they have a duty
and must go. They
should go into church
with a thankful heart
that they are healthy
enough to get out and
go.
Some folks go because
their spouse nags and
begs them until they feel
guilty. They should go
into church with a song
of praise on their lips.

A few Christians do go
to church with a thankful heart and blessing
the name of Jesus.
I read this verse, and the
Holy Spirit spoke to my
heart asking what group

What group are YOU

You do go to church
don't you?

Gov. Nathan Deal recently

announced that W.S.
Badcock Corp., one of the
largest privately held furniture retailers in the United
States, will construct a new
regional distribution center in
LaGrange, investing $22 million and employing more
than 100.
Badcocks new regional distribution center is an excellent addition to Troup
County, Deal said. This
expansion is a testament to
our states top-ranked business climate, and I have no
doubt that Georgias skilled
workforce and globally recognized logistics infrastructure will support future
growth and success.

THANK YOU
For all your support during
our 1st year in business!
- Conni & Michael 422 New Franklin Rd. 706-668-6111
10-7 Tue. - Sat. www.milleniumvapors.com

The 535,000-square-foot
facility will be located at the
Callaway South Industrial
Park in LaGrange and is
scheduled to open in the third
quarter of 2015. The project
will include enhanced energy
efficiency technologies and is
designed for expansion to
700,000 square feet. This
facility will replace two
existing facilities in Thomson
and Cullman, Ala.
We are very pleased with

the cooperation from the officials in LaGrange, W.S.

Badcock President Mike
Price said. Their progressive
attitude and effective leadership were influential in our
selection of the community.
This is a significant project
for our company, and we are
delighted to make this investment here and become an
integral part of LaGrange and
Troup County. The new distribution facility is designed
to handle distribution to our
current network of locations
and will also accommodate
our planned growth of new
stores.
We are thrilled that Badcock
chose Georgia for their new
regional distribution facility,
state Department of
Economic Development
Commissioner Chris Carr
said. Georgias logistics
infrastructure will give them
easy access to supply their
growing number of retail
stores across the Southeast.
Charlie Moseley, senior project manager at the state
Department of Economic
Development, assisted
Badcock on behalf of the
state, along with the

LaGrange Office of
Economic Development and
Lonnie Smallwood at
Electric Cities of Georgia.
We welcome Badcocks distribution facility to
LaGrange, LaGrange Mayor
Jim Thornton said. They are
a strong brand with an outstanding reputation for excellence, and we are excited to
have these jobs created in our
community.
About W.S. Badcock Corp.:
W.S. Badcock Corp. is a privately held company that was
founded in 1904, is headquartered in Mulberry, Fla.,
and employs more than 1,200

operating in Florida,
Alabama, Mississippi,
Tennessee, North Carolina,

Health Tip
Lose Fat Without
Surgery?

Dr. Mike Grego

ND, DC, LLC

Yes you can lose fat without dangerous surgery! It is new and
revolutionary and is called Body Sculpting with a Cold Laser.
This is completely safe and there is no down time after the procedure. This is how it works, the light is a special wavelength,
635nm to be exact. And what happens when light hits your fat
cells, it opens them up, and causes them to release their contents
into your lymph. Then from there it goes to your liver and from
their out thru your intestines. This happens quietly and painlessly
in just 30mins.
We have such great results I have posted some of them on our
YouTube Channel. The name of the the YouTube Channel is
Royal Laser Clinic. Please check it out and listen to what others
have to say about this miraculous device. It could potentially get
you into those jeans youve always wanted to get in or down a
couple dress sizes without climbing a mountain!
Simply call us at 706.616.6775 if you are interested in losing
some fat.

HARRASSMENT
I am a debt relief agency & I help people file for bankruptcy.

Last Christmas,
Ginny gave me
something Ive
always wanted, a
bread maker. It takes
ten minutes to put
the ingredients into
the machine and turn
it on. Four hours
later, I have a wonderful loaf of bread.
As much as I love
my new machine,
when I have time, I
like to make bread
the old way. The
dough squeezing
through my fingers
is somehow comforting. At first its a bit
messy, but after it
has risen the first
time, I knead it
again. This time the
dough is soft and

SERVING WEST GA. FOR OVER 20 YEARS!

smooth. I get lost in

thought, as I turn the
dough over and over.
The repetitive
motion is relaxing,
almost hypnotizing.
I let the dough

Shake It Off & Step Up

A parable is told of a
farmer who owned an old
mule. The mule fell into
the farmer's well. The
farmer heard the mule
'braying' -- or whatever
mules do when they fall
into wells. After carefully
assessing the situation, the
farmer felt sorry for the
mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well

was worth saving. Instead,

he called his neighbors
together and told them
what had happened and
asked them to help haul
dirt to bury the old mule
in the well and put him
out of his misery.
Initially, the old mule was
hysterical! But as the
farmer and his neighbors

continued shoveling and

the dirt hit his back, a
thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that
every time a shovel load
of dirt landed on his back:
he should shake it off and
step up! This is what the
old mule did, blow after
blow.
"Shake it off and step up...
shake it off and step up...
shake it off and step up!"
he repeated to encourage
himself. No matter how
painful the blows, or distressing the situation
seemed, the old mule
fought "panic" and just
kept right on shaking it off
and stepping up!
You guessed it! It wasn't
long before the old mule,
battered and exhausted,
stepped triumphantly over
the wall of that well! What
seemed like it would bury
him, actually end up blessing him. All because of
the manner in which he
handled his adversity.

Tiny Fingers

FRIENDS OF EMMAUS HOUSE

Tiny fingers grasp the truth

that time is short and summer will be gone too soon.
Wrapped around my fingers
as we walked along the
shore, I prayed at times that
you'd stay small and I as
young as you needed me to
be.
Stopping now and then to
claim a treasure lying there
waiting just for you, you'd
say "Daddy, look! This
one's even better." And I,
stooping down to see it,
saw nothing more in it than
the last one. But your eyes,
your smile, convinced me.
"Awesome! You're right.
That is the best one yet!"
I'd confirm. You'd tuck it in
your pocket and we'd move
on.
"I wish this would never
end," you said. You must

"It won't if we work real

hard at keeping it this way."
I remember telling you.
Tiny hands held ice cream
cones and played with
buckets and trucks. Tiny
feet tried desperately to out
run the approaching waves
and you screamed at the
very thought of being
caught by one.
You sat on my lap wrapped
yourself in towels, as tiny
toes dug deep in the sand.
Just before we left that day,
we'd write your name far
enough up the beach that
you thought for sure it
would be there the next
time we came.
I was there, you weren't.
Your hands have grown and
your feet have taken you
places I have never been
nor will be.

There once was a professor of philosophy, who in

front of his Class, took a
large empty pot of jam
and without saying a
word, began to fill it with
golf balls.
Then he asked his students if the jar was full.
The Students replied:
YES.
The professor then took a
box full of marbles and
poured the marbles into
the pot of jam. The marbles filled the gaps in
between the Golf balls.
The Professor asked the
students again if the jar
was full. Again, they
replied: YES .
At that point, the professor took a bag of sand and
poured it into the pot of
jam. Of course, the sand
filled all the remaining
gaps and the professor
asked again if the jar was
full. The Students unani-

small things in life.

The professor then added

two cups of coffee to the
contents of the jar thus
filling the small gaps
between the grains of
sand. The students started
laughing. After they
stopped, the professor
said: "I want you to realize that the pot of jam
represents Life.

If we had first poured

sand into the pot of jam,
there wouldn't have been
any room left for anything
else such as the marbles
or the golf balls.

The golf balls are the very

important things in Life
such as family, children,
health, everything you are
passionate about. Our
lives would still be full
even if we'd lost everything else and these were
the only things that
remained.
The marbles are the other
things that count in our
lives such as work, house,
car, etc ...
