For the VisSim User's Guide version 7.0

This document is formatted as an ASCII text file. It can be
opened using many word processors and reformatted, if desired.
If you are using Windows Notepad to read this file, activate
the Word Wrap option and adjust the window size to format it
properly.
If you have purchased a VisSim add-on, for example,
VisSim/Analyze or VisSim/Real-TimePRO, an additional
README__.TXT file exists containing information
specific to that product.

1.0 IMPORTANT SOFTWARE USAGE INFORMATION

Read this section for the limitations that apply to the version of
the VisSim software that you have purchased.

2.0 IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INFORMATION

DirectX 9.0 requirement
----------------------VisSim 7 requires Microsoft DirectX v9 or newer.
If you don't have it, it can be downloaded from our web site here:
http://www.vissim.com/downloads/software/DirectX9setup.zip
Windows Vista Install Problems
------------------------------ You must have administrator privilege to properly install VisSim under Vista.
Vista Compatibility Note
-----------------------Currently, there are known incompatibilities between VisSim and Vista with regar
d to VisSim's configuration file.

During the VisSim installation, the 'install' applet creates a configuration fil
e, vissim.ini, in the operating system folder (typically C:\Windows). This confi
guration file contains the default "Preferences" settings for use by the VisSim
software.
Due to Vista's enhanced Security policies and new System Restore features, chang
es made to preferences from within the VisSim environment are no longer reflecte
d in this configuration file, as was the case with previous versions of Windows.
Under Vista, the first time VisSim is launched, a shadow copy of VisSim's origin
al configuration file (primary copy) is created in
C:\Users\{current account name}\AppData\Local\VirtualStore.
This "shadow copy" now retains all changes -- changes that previously were retai
ned in the primary copy. In addition, when VisSim is launched under Vista, it re
trieves "Preferences" settings from this shadow copy, instead of the primary cop
y.
In short, the shadow copy retains control of VisSim's configuration parameters.
Should you ever need to re-install VisSim with different installation parameters
(e.g., install to a different path or choose different add-on options), or simp
ly re-install to reset Preferences back to the default settings, you will need t
o locate this shadow copy and delete it, for those new settings to take affect.
The path cited above hopefully should lead you directly to its location. If not,
then you will need to conduct a search for it. Since shadow copy of the vissim.
ini file is likely to be well hidden, you will need to use the Advanced Search f
eature with "Local Hard Drives" as the selected search location, and the "Includ
e non-indexed, hidden, and system files" option enabled.
Windows 98/ME Install Problems
-----------------------------The install may not properly set up the VisSim addons included with
your product. To check this, Start VisSim and select Edit/Preferences.../Addons
You should find a list of addon DLL's including:
C:\VISSIM70\STATETRANSITION.DLL
C:\VISSIM70\VSMIPC.DLL
C:\VISSIM70\VSMAUDIO.DLL
C:\VISSIM70\VSMTUTOR.DLL

Mathcad Compatability Note

-------------------------VisSim 7.0 works with Mathcad versions: 2000, v11.2a, v12.1, v13, v14
Note that you must have the above service packs with Mathcad 11 and 12
for proper operation.
