We are looking for a specialist in concrete to carry out experimental and analytical research in
concrete/concrete structures, commencing 1st January 2015 at the latest. Civil Engineering at Leeds has a
well-established track record of teaching and research. The School is one of the largest and most
successful undergraduate and postgraduate civil engineering schools in the UK, with all its undergraduate
engineering programmes receiving professional accreditation. The School has an annual turnover of
approximately 10 million with over 2 million of research external grant and contract expenditure. The
research environment is prospering and publication and funding is expected to continue to increase. The
School has very strong links with UK and international industry, which benefits both its research and
taught courses.
You must have a PhD in any field of Concrete or Concrete Structures. Additionally, unless you have
clearly equivalent postdoctoral research experience in one of the following fields, your PhD must be in
one of the following areas: concrete technology, performance of structures in service environments,
sustainable construction materials and/or numerical modelling in these areas. You must also be
professionally qualified as a Chartered Engineer or capable of becoming a Member/Fellow of an
appropriate professional institution such as the Institution of Structural Engineers. In addition, you will
have an excellent research track record with the vision and drive to tackle new research challenges and to
develop collaborative research and developmental links within the academic world and with industry
nationally and internationally.
The teaching commitments will be at both undergraduate and postgraduate (MScs in Concrete and
Concrete Structures) levels. A strong feature of teaching at Leeds is the extensive use of design project
work and you would be expected to bring enthusiasm and practical skills to this area of the curriculum.
You will be expected to supervise 3rd and final year (MEng) research projects, MSc dissertations and PhD
research projects.
You will join the Structural Engineering group within the Schools Institute for Resilient Infrastructure and
will have opportunities to develop collaborative research links with staff in other research groups and
centres in the Faculty of Engineering and beyond.
