Does your location require you to
complete their own risk assessment? If
so, attach it to this risk assessment.
Have you notified the local Council and

any of the following:
Filming in a public place
Using weapons
Have cast in uniform

4. Identify potential hazards; who could be affected; how they could be affected; and list the control
measures that will reduce the risk. University H&S policies can be found here.
Hazards or
hazardous
activity

Who may be affected?

Crew, actors, participants (documentary), crew,
helpers, public.

How may they be harmed?

Type of injury or health problem that might result i.e.
cuts, bruises, fractures, electric shock, burns etc.
Indicative values for P column (P = Probability)
L = might happen, but unlikely
M = could happen
H = will probably happen

Access/ Egress

Theres only one main door in and out of

the room. Crew and cast could collide
when coming in and out.

List the control measures you will put

in place to reduce risks from the
hazards to an acceptable standard
Control measures should ultimately reduce the overall risk. Do
not purely rely upon providing Personal Protective Equipment
or rely on just being careful
Indicative values for C column (C = Consequence)
L = can return to filming work after minor attention
M = person unable to work for 3 days or longer
H = permanent injury or death

Keep the door open and clear at all times, so

that no-one has a chance of bumping into each
other.

Evaluate the
probability
and
consequence

Allergens

People may bring along food stuff that

may cause allergies.

Make sure everyone has all medication with

them, and all food allergies are told before to
avoid.

Dolly during the final shot of the film.

Could collapse causing damage to both
crew and cast.

Keep the area clear when using the dolly, also

make sure all equipment is safe and secure.

Overloading sockets may cause fires or

other problems. Also if any plugs are
showing wires crew members may get
shocked.
Loose parts may fall on members of the
crew causing fractures and pain.

Make sure sockets arent overloaded and at a

safe capacity. Also make sure all electrical
equipment is tested and safe to use.

Keep crew aware of their surroundings so that

they can avoid it. Also make sure all props or
loose parts are together to stop these
problems occurring.
Keep to the fire safety instructions; also keep
crew aware of surroundings to spot fires
before they become dangerous.

Crew may be using hand tools and could

put other members of the crew at risk if
not used safely.

Make sure all crew who use hand tools are

aware of how to use them and use them safely.
Also that crew are aware of what other people
are doing and avoid dangerous situations.

Lights are above the set and to be pulled

down. There are many risks to the lights

Make sure people are aware of how to use the

lights, and that they are not left to overheat.

if they go wrong, including burning of

skin and putting crew and cast in danger
if not used correctly.
Machinery
Manual Handling

Excessive lifting and handling of

equipment may cause damage to crew.

Make sure all crew have breaks and that the

load is shared to avoid hurting crew members.

Due to the nature of the filming the cast

and crew may get worn out due to
movements.

Make sure all crew and cast have breaks and

that they are no wearing themselves out.

Filming may cause stress to cast and

crew, could cause tiredness, loss of
balance, loss of
good judgement, irritability.
Cast member will be chucked into a room
by other cast members. May cause
damage if not falling correctly.
Cast needs to break through paper and
crawl through a small space. If not
prepared could also cause damage to
self.
Cast and crew may fall over trailing
cables.
Crew may leave props and equipment
around in an untidy manner. This may
cause crew and cast to hurt themselves.

Keep a calm and welcoming environment when

filming to keep the stress levels down.

Provide a soft landing for the cast member to

fall/crawl onto. Also run through the stunt
enough times to make sure the cast member is
confident with it.

Make sure all cables are tied down or together

to keep them out of the way and safe.
Make sure all areas are tidy at all times, also
that anything not being used is out the way.

A crew member will be rising above the

scene to film the crew working. They may
fall from the height and hurt themselves.

Make sure they are secure and safe, also that

all equipment being used is secure to climb.
And clear the surrounding area so nothing can
knock anything into it.
