SUCCESS IS WELL DEFINED

A proverb says that success comes to those who dare and act. Unless we put things into

action we will never succeed in our life. All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to
poverty. Everybody wants to succeed in their life. It is one of the most crucial aspects of any person's life. But do everyone succeed? No. Only a few will succeed and achieve their goal. Nothing
succeeds life success. Then what is success?
Success, to many, may mean making lots of money. Some people say success is achieving
academic success. Gaining political power or finding fame in a particular field of work is success,
according to a large number of people. These are all stereotypes of success, of course, fair. But
what makes a man successful? Our great Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi was a successful person. His motto was a National freedom. He achieved it. But in achieving it, the means he employed
gave him satisfaction. He achieved freedom by way of nonviolence. In achieving any work, the
employed will affect the quality of the success enjoyed.
Success is not defined by the goal you seek, but by whether you reach it to your satisfaction.
Everyone must follow his own parts to success. Your definition of success will depend on your personality, what you need to overcome and what you need to learn and understand.
Success is not a day's business. Achieving a goal is success. Nobody can succeed without hard
work. There is a saying "Failures are with heroic minds stepping stones to success" . It is certain
that every man faces failure on one or the other occasion. In such a case, he becomes pessimistic,
he thinks that he cannot do anything. He becomes perturbed. People who are weak minded may
even attempt for suicide. Is it good? Why do you lose confidence? An optimist will never lose confidence. He considers his failures as stepping stones to success. An optimist will utilize the opportunities. But a pessimist will always think of failures and lose all fantastic opportunities. So,
always do remember that "FAILURES ARE NOT MEANT TO DEFINE YOU, THEY ARE MEANT
TO DIRECT YOU" .
You must know that where there is will, there is a way. You believe that you can be successful. Everyone has the chance to succeed. You have to take risks. Never feel a work as a pressure,
but try to do it with great pleasure. You should work hard and stick with it. You can be successful
if you are willing to serve others so the best of your ability. In this society you are not alone. There
are people with you.
SUCCESS IS A JOURNEY. TRY FINDING HAPPINESS IN THE PATH, BUT IF HAPPINESS IS GAINED AT THE END OF JOURNEY, THERE IS NO USE BECAUSE BY THAT TIME
YOUR JOURNEY OF SUCCESS ENDS.

MY IDEA OF HAPPY LIFE FOR

SCHOOL STUDENTS
A student at end of the extra classes after the school houses. The clerk of the school comes
earlier and goes late from the office. The principal is anxious about the result of the school. The
teachersdevote their vacant periods in correction work. Why is there such a struggle in the temple
of learning (school)????
The idea underlying this struggle is to make life happy and prosperous ... ...

Meaning of happiness:The question arise what happiness is? Is happiness to possess wealth? Does poverty lead to
happiness? Do you think that pleasure is happiness?
The experience of life gives negative answers to all these questions. The rich, who have all
comforts and luxuries, are not free from cares and anxieties. The poor struggle for their bread and
butter. Those who mistake pleasure of happiness do blunder. Then what is happiness? What is happiness to me may be trouble for you. The drunkard feels happy in wine which I hate from the core
of my heart.

Difference between Pleasure and happiness:Let us see whether pleasure leads us to happiness because the world is running after pleasure. In reality pleasure and happiness is ever lasting .I eat sweets and get pleasure from them. They
fail to give me happiness. Happiness is the aim of life, while pleasure is a hurdle in the way which
leads to happiness. Our senses feel the pleasure but they cannot lead us to happiness. Pleasure is
external, while happiness is internal.

How can happiness be attained :

There are few things which in my opinion make our life happy. The first is health-I hear
people saying, "When wealth is lost nothing is lost, when health is lost something is lost".
The loss of health makes us unhappy. The last words of one of the richest men of the world
give us the idea of the importance of health. While he dying he said," I shall cheerfully give up
my all if I can enjoy a good meal".
The second important factor of happiness is peace and contentment. We should remain satisfied with what we have. Though progress of our life lays in dissatisfaction yet a progressive life
is far away from true happiness. A contented man never feels jealous of the wealth of others.
Freedom from worries and anxieties leads us to happiness. A sanyasi living on alms he gets is happier than a rich man who rolls in wealth. Satisfaction is life and dissatisfaction is death.
6

Social service is a third factor of happiness. In order to be happy we must have a spirit of
social service. The strong should help the weak and the rich should help the poor. All great men
like Gandhi and Shastri found peace and happiness in the social work.
The religious and pious life is the fourth factor of happiness. It gives us peace and happiness. Religion is the matter of heart and not of sense. A happy man is he who surrenders himself
to God.
Last but not the least is some noble work which gives us happiness. We should spend
leisure hours in reading some books. We should develop taste for artistic things like paintings,
dancing and music. These things will create atmosphere for true happiness.

CONCLUSION : A happy man is he who is honest and sincere, who does his duty well, who does not forget
his creator in life and who is fully satisfied with what he has. One cannot find happiness in wealth
and pleasures which makes us greedy, selfish and proud.

TIPS TO "GALVANIZE!"
"Success is never ending and failure is never final"
Problems are not meant to stop you. They are meant to be solved.
There is a need to solve the problems.
Have you ever seen people walking at the beach with a metal detector? Metal detectors can
find money, watches, jewellery and even scraps of junk hidden in the sand. They provide an interesting hobby and help to keep the beaches clear of rubbish.
We all need a similar detector in our lives , but rather than a metal detector. We need a mental
detector to detect both the positive attitudes and negative attitudes so that we can keep our mental state as clear of negativity as possible.
Don't let inexperience become an excuse for not trying. Don't let it intimidate you.
To break through, you must adopt the attitude that inexperience will not defeat you. Never
give into the attitude that you lack experience to make your dream come true, for courage positive
attitudes are far more important.
Challenge every single impossibility idea or negative attitude that still lurks furtively in the
back of your mind. Dig out, unveil, expose, uncover, unmark, silent assumptions that lead to distorted thinking.
Mind you, it is a constant discipline that must be set up in the process of successful thinking.

PARENTS
An 80 year old man was sitting on the sofa in his house along with his 45 years old highly
educated son. Suddenly a crow perched on their window.
The father asked his son, "What is this?" .The son replied, "It is a crow."
After a few minutes, the father asked his son the second time, "what is this?" The son said
"father I have just now told you it's a crow."
After a little while, the old father again asked his son the third time, "what is this?" .At this
time some expression of irritation was felt in the son's tone when said to his father with a rebuff.
"It's a crow... crow" .
A little after, the father again asked his son the fourth time, "what's this?" .This time the son
shouted at his father, "why do you keep asking me the question again and again, although I have
told you these many times IT IS A CROW. Are you not able to understand this?" .
Then after a while the father went to his room and came back with a old tattered diary, which
he had maintained since his was born. On opening a page, he asked his son to read that page. When
the son read it, the following words were written in the diary : - "Today my little son aged three
was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window, my son asked me 23
times what it was, and I replied to the same question again and again for 23 times that it was a
crow. I hugged him lovingly each time he asked me the same question again and again for 23
times. I did not feel irritated even one time, I rather felt affectionate for my innocent child" .
While the little child asked him 23 times "what is this?" ,the father had felt no irritation in
replying to the same all 23 times and when today the father asked his son the same question just
four times , the felt irritated and annoyed.

So, my dear readers ... ..

If your parents attain old age, do not repulse them or look at them as a burden, but speak to
them a gracious word; be cool, obedient, humble and kind to them. Be considerate to your parents.
From today say this aloud, "I want to see my parents happy forever. They have cared for me ever
since I was a little child. They have always showered selfless love on me. They crossed all mountains and valleys without seeing the storm and hurt to make me a person presentable in the society today."
Say a prayer to God, "I will serve my old parents in the BEST way."
I will say all good and kind words to my dear parents, no matter how they behave.

You should be able to say about yourself

You know you're on the right track when you can repeat each of the following headlines to
yourself, honestly. And if u can't, this list gives u something positive to work on.
I AM MAKING DIFFERENCE
Act as if what u does makes a difference, it does.
I AM HAPPY AND GRATEFUL
Happiness is within u, in your way of thinking. Being grateful will always make you happy.
If you're finding it hard to be grateful for anything, sit down close your eyes and take a long slow
breath.
I AM GROWING IN THE BEST VERSION OF ME
"Always be a first rate version of yourself instead of a second rate version of somebody else".
Trying to be anyone else is a waste of the person you are. Embrace that the individual inside you
that has ideas, strength and beauty like no one else.
I AM MAKING MY TIME COUNT
Time is priceless, but it's free. You can't own it, but you can use it you can spend it, but you
can't keep it. Once you've lost it you can never get it back. So, make your time count.
I AM HONEST WITH MYSELF
Be honest about what's right, as well as what needs to be changed. Be honest about what
you want to achieve and what you want to become. Be honest with every aspect of your life
always, because you are the one person you can forever count on.
I HAVE NO REGRETS

can't control. Learn from your mistakes.

WHY GOD MADE

TEACHERS?

WHAT I THINK OF
SCHOOL

When god created teachers,

Every day we learn new things

He gave us special friends

And we show it on tests

To help us understand his world

So we have to think

And truly comprehend

If we want to be the best.

The beauty and the wonder

School is great

Of everything we see,
And become a better person

Because it teaches us to be brave

With each discovery.

to overcome all obstacles

My school is best

When god created teachers,

He gave us special guides

Although some people think it is a

To show us ways in which to grow

pest

So we can all decide

My school creates a zest

How to live and how to do

What's right instead of wrong?

Sometimes I just hate it

To learn how to be strong.

It won't be tough only for one day

Sometimes I dream to go away

Why god created teachers,

But I understood that I passed in

If his wisdom and his peace

a good way

Was to help us learn to make our world

I love my school

A better, wiser place.

It is a good tool
It always rules.

athematics has an important role in our life, it not only helps in day-to-day situations but also develops logical reasoning, abstract thinking and imagination. It enriches
life and provides new dimensions to think. The struggle to learn abstract principles develops the power to formulate and understand arguments and the capacity to see interrelations
among concepts. The enriched understanding helps us deal with abstract ideas in another
subjects as well. It also helps us differentiate between shapes and sizes. The scope of mathematics includes many aspects of our life and environment. This relationship needs to be
brought out at all possible places.

In Life

Eq(i) + Eq(ii)

Life + Love = Happy----------(i)

Life - Love = Sad--------------(ii)
2Life = Happy + Sad

Therefore,
Life = Happy + Sad
In Frienship
Considering A-1; B-2; C-3 so on;
Number the letters of 'friendship', we get
F=6; R=18; I=9; E=5; N=14; D=4; S=19; H=8; I=9; P=16.
Adding all we get =6+18+9+5+14+4+19+8+9+16=108
As we call 108 (ambulance), it comes and helps us. Similarly a friend also helps us.
"A friend in need is a friend indeed."

I can prove it.

Can you guess how this is possible?

Actually it is little typical that, in Eq(i)

But, We cannot consider + because from eq (ii)

So 2+2 is always equal to 4

SCIENCE
MY TRIP TO THE MOON

I was sitting alone in my house

Studying the structure of a mouse
My exams were going on,
And science I hadn't done.
Suddenly the lights went out,
Then I heard a loud burst,
Someone was there , outside ,
I went out to look , full of fright
I saw a huge rocket,
And an astronaut in white ,

He invited me on a fight to the moon ,

We reached there by afternoon .
We jumped around.
As we could not walk on the ground.
It was a lot of fun ,
I reached home before the setting sun .
My science test went very well,
But no one knows the secret,
Which even now inside me dwells.

Science a boon
We are in the age of science and technology. Man cannot live without the aid of science.
Science has so much engulfed our lives that nothing can take place in our day to day
work with out the help of science. Our food, Trans port learning, administration, recreation
and social life are all linked with science in various ways .
To answer the question whether science has come to mankind as a boon or as a cause
of ruin [bane], one should know that science exactly means. Science is said to be a systematic classification of experiences. We, men wonder at the various things and events happening around us we get doubts: what are they? Why are they happening? If so why? These
questions are the basic seeds for science. Then starts the thinking,
Reasoning, analysis, synthesis, comparison and contrast and finally the truth emerges
.Scientists say there is a scientific method for everything and there are inevitable steps to
be followed. 1] Observation 2] hypothesis 3] experiment 4] theory and 5] proof. All scientists have, in a way, followed these steps.
The aim of science is to search for truth and to know things hither to unknown. A scientist does not accept ideas simply because they were accepted by others earlier. Great discoveries are a result of reasoning. A lot of patience and observation are required.
Civilization, as it is today, is the result of a number of discoveries made in the field of science. The invention of the simple wheel has resulted in our modern industrialization.
Electricity, as a source of energy has revolutionized the world. Medical science is so much
advanced that the average life of an Indian has risen to 62 years from 35 years. Science
has contributed to the success of our Green Revolution and now we have enough food for
all. We have enough clothing and better shelter too. All this is possible because of science.
Radios, televisions and films which entertain us are a product of science. So a common man
can conclude that science is a boon to mankind.

consequences. It is easy to forget about the energy, water, chemicals and efforts used to produce everyday food items like chocolates, soft drinks or a packet of chips. Not to mention
the fuel burnt getting these items for you.
Green technology
Electric cars, wind energy, solar energy etc is due to technology development. If we use
these in a proper way we can save a lot of non-renewable energy.
Go green at home
Use less electricity. Switch to compact florescent bulbs each time you replace an old incandescent bulb. Compact florescent save 75% in energy use and last up to 10 times longer.
Go green party theme
Eco-friendly living has been embraced by our generation and we all know that we can each
take small steps towards saving the environment. We can follow some measures like not
wasting food, electricity, water and we all can enjoy parties.

OZONE: FRIEND AND FOE

Ozone is a gas that occurs naturally in very, very small amounts in the Earth's atmosphere. But human beings make more ozone every day. Ground level ozone is formed when
exhaust from cars, trucks, factories, and lawn mowers interact with sunlight-especially in
the late spring and summer. When ozone is close to the ground, it can irritate lungs and
trigger asthma attacks. Some communities offer free bus rides, encourage car pooling, and
ask people to mow lawns or fill gas tanks in the evening on high ozone days.
But we wouldn't want to get rid of ozone entirely. Ozone is our protection from the
Sun's ultraviolet (UV) light, which can cause sunburn, skin cancer, and eye damage. High
in the atmosphere, about 25 kilometers above the Earth, ozone serves as a protective layer
that absorbs harmful UV light.
Certain materials such as those used in air conditioners, refrigerators, and spray
cans, can damage the ozone layer. When damage occurs, more UV light leaks through.
Each fall, the results are visible over Antarctica, where an ozone hole forms. Because this
hole has so little ozone, it allows lots of UV light to leak through.
World leaders have agreed to work together to reduce the amount of ozone - depleting substances released into atmosphere. You can reduce the amount of ground level ozone
by walking, riding a bike, taking public transportation, or carpooling. By lowering the
number of automobiles on the road, we can reduce the amount of pollution in our air.

SOAP STORIES
Bathing has been around for a long time, because people have always had a desire
to get clean. Even before soap was invented, people would wash with water in streams
or rivers. However, the water only washed away dirt. It could not dissolve the oily
residue and grime that built up over time.
The first people to write about using soap to bath were the Egyptians in about 1500
BC. Egyptians made soap from animal and vegetable oils that were mixed with alkaline salts such as sodium carbonate. The goopy mixture worked relatively well for
cleaning, and for treating skin diseases. The Egyptians bathed regularly, and are
believed to have been quite clean.
However, there is an earlier record of soap making. Researchers have found small
amounts of a soap-like
material in clay jars from the ruins of the ancient city of
Babylon. The material was made in about 2800 BC, 1300 years before .the Egyptians.
Writing on the outside of the jars says that the material was made by boiling animal
fats with ashes, and that it was used for hair styling.
The Greeks preferred not to use soap to clean themselves. Instead, they would scrub
their skin with blocks of clay, sand, pumice and ashes to remove dirt and grime. They
would then anoint themselves with oil and scrape it away with a knife-like blade called
a strigil. The Greeks did not use soap, but only to wash their clothes in the stream.
Around 312 BC, soap regained popularity with the construction of the first Roman
baths. The ancient Romans built huge public baths that were filled with water from
man-made canals that carried water from nearby rivers into Roman cities. The roman
invented indoor plumbing using lead pipes. In fact, the word "plumbing" comes from
the Roman word for lead-plum bum.
But alas, when the Roman Empire fell in 467 AD, people in Europe stopped bathing.
People were dirty, their food was unclean, and their homes were unsanitary. During the
middle Ages, many people became very sick. Because people did not clean themselves
or their homes well, health plagues were common. In 1347 AD, Italian traders spread
the bubonic plague from China to Europe. In just five years, the "Black Death", as it
was called, killed one-third of Europe's population.

24

It wasn't until the 17th century that cleanliness came back into style, but soap was
considered a luxury item. Most people simply could not afford it. During this time, soap
makers guarded their formulas carefully, and the governments of Europe placed a high
tax on soap. It wasn't until the 19th century that soap became an affordable item for
most people.
Early pioneers in the United States used lye soap to clean. Lye soap was hard to make,
and it was very harsh on the skin. However, it was cheap, and materials to make it were
easy to find. To make lye soap, pioneers would mix lye with oil. The lye came from
ashes, and the oil that they used usually came from pig fat or tallow. To make lye, they
would pour water over ashes from a fireplace. Then they collected the water, and filtered it. The ashes would not dissolve in water, but the lye would. To obtain oil, the pioneers would heat pig fat in a large pot until all of the oil was released. The oil was then
boiled, and the scum that collected on the top was scraped off and discarded. The oil
and the water containing lye were combined, and lye soap resulted. The process often
took days, and the lye soap was harsh that it burned the pioneer's eyes and skin.
We have come a long way since the days of Egyptians. Today, finding a bar of soap is
as easy as going to the store. There is no need to make your own. Modern soaps are
gentler on your skin, and they clean better than ever before. Some soap even contain
lotions and perfumes to make your skin soft and to keep you smelling fresh. We've got
it easy these days, and it is all because of good chemistry!

Black Slaves & White Planters

You

have read about how JyotiraoPhule established connection in his book

"Gulamgiri" between caste oppression and the practice of slavery in America. What was
the System of Slavery?
From the time European Explorers and traders landed in Africa in the seventeenth
century,a trade in slaves began .Black people were captured and brought from Africa to
America, sold to white planters and made them to work on cotton and other plantations
most of them in Southern United States. In the plantations they had to work long hours, typically from dawn to dusk, punished for "Inefficient work", and whipped and tortured.
Many people, white and black, opposed slavery through organized protest. In doing
so, they involved the spirit of the American Revolution of 1776,exhorting "See your
Declaration, Americans! Do you understand your own language? " In his moving
Gettysburg Adder , Abraham Lincoln held that who had fought slavery had done so for the
cause of democracy. He urged the people the strive for racial equality so that "Government
of the people, by the people shall not perish from the earth."

The Great Pyramid

Also called the Pyramid of Khufu, the Great Pyramid is the oldest of the Seven
Wonders of the Ancient World and the only one to remain largely intact even today. The
Great Pyramid was built over the plateau of Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo, by King Khufu
around 2500 B.C.
The Great Pyramid was the centerpiece of an elaborate complex, which included
several small pyramids. Each side of each of the three Pyramids of Giza lines up precisely
east-west or north-south an incredible fact, considering the ancient Egyptians did not have
the magnetic compass at their disposal. Built 4500 years ago it stands 450feet built in 30
years.

Master Peace Maker - Nelson Mandela

"Do not judge me by success; judge me by how many times I fell and
got back up again."
'Death is something inevitable. When a man has done what he
considers to be his duty to his country, he can rest in peace. I believe I
have made that effort and that is, therefore, why I will sleep for the
eternity '
- Nelson Mandela

He was born on 18thJuly, 1918 to Hendry Mphakanyiswa, a Thembu Chief

and NosekeniQunu in the Umatata district of the Transkei. In the year 1940 he
expelled from university of Fort Hare, a reputed institution for blacks, for role in
a student strike. In 1942 he joins African National Congress for black equality.
On 4th June 1948 National party, dominated by white Dutch-descended power
and begins installing Apartheid. In 1952 Mandela leads the Defiance Campaign,
encouraging people to break racial separation laws. He marries a social worker Winnie NomzamoMadikizela after divorcing Evelyn Mase, his first wife in
1958. He helps to establish ANC guerrilla wing, Umkhonto we sizwe, or spare of
the nation.
European Exploration: From Earliest Times to 1497
When did Europeans first reach North America? This question has preoccupied
historians for many years, and has produced a multitude of answers, some more
plausible than others. This is an area of history where evidence is scanty, and
speculation abounds. There are only two fixed points of fact, events that we know
happened. First, archaeological evidence and the Icelandic sagas have established that the Norse arrived in Newfoundland and Labrador around 1000 CE.
Second, there is no dispute that ZuanCaboto (John Cabot) sailed from Bristol to
North America in 1497. Whether other Europeans explored the region before the
Norse, or between 1000 and 1497, is unclear.
37

There are legends. The most famous are the story of St. Brendan's sixth century
voyage from Ireland, and the fable that a Welsh prince, Madoc, reached America
in the 12th century. More realistically, others have argued that Portuguese voyagers sailed to Newfoundland in the 1470s - indeed, that Joo Corte Real was
the actual "discoverer" of America. And in Bristol, there exists a firm belief,
backed by some documentary evidence, that mariners from that port were crossing the Atlantic before John Cabot arrived.
All that can be said for certain is that during the 15th century, as Europeans
began to look for sea routes to Asia, stimulated by dreams of the wealth to be
made trading in spices and precious metals, so the geography of the globe
became known more accurately. Europe was expanding, and a part of the process
was the progressive exploration of the Atlantic Ocean. Certainly, the Portuguese
were sailing further to the west, and all along the Atlantic seaboard there was a
growing interest in a direct, western route to Asia. While there is no firm evidence
of European explorers in Newfoundland and Labrador between, the Norse and
John Cabot, the suggestion that Portuguese and English voyagers reached the
shores of eastern North America before Cabot is broadly consistent with what we
know of the times.
The Norse exploration of North America, though by far the earliest for which
we have definite proof, left no permanent legacy. On the other hand, the voyages
of John Cabot, soon to be followed by others, began the European exploitation
and settlement of what was to Europeans, a new founde lande.
