Unpacking

The following space is required for installing the machine.

Install the machine in a location that is level, stable, and able to bear the weight of the machine. Total weight
of the machine is 300kg (Body + Stand) or more. It requires floor strength that supports up to 75 kg of the
point weight at the one contact of the machine and floor. Installation in an unsuitable location may cause
major accidents, such as trip over, fall, and collapse.
Never install in outdoors or any location where exposed to water or to gasoline, thinner, or any other
flammable material. Current leakage may cause electrical shock, electrocution, or combustion and fire.
Install in a clean, brightly lit location.
Working in a location that is dark or cluttered may lead to accidents, such as an operator trips and get caught
in the machine as the result of an inadvertent stumble.
Ensure ventilation for the work area.
Odor from ink and the like may cause physical distress.
Keep the power plug within immediate reach at all times.
This is to enable quick disconnection of the power plug in the event of an emergency. Install the machine
next to an electrical outlet. Also, provide enough empty space to allow immediate access to the electrical
outlet.

7-1

Checking for
Carrying-in Route

There is a space that allows you to operate using a heavy equipment like a forklift or a crane.
There is a carrying-in route that the machine can go through without being lifted.
In case that there is a step, the machine can be lifted up by a power lifter or the like.
The width of the route should be more than 1300mm as a right figure shows.

In case that the carrying-in route bends at a right angle as a right figure,
the width of the route should meet the following formula.
Route width B (mm) = 1300(mm) x 4100(mm) / Route width A (mm)
And, Route width B (mm) > 1400mm
E.g.) When the route width A is 1500mm, the route width B needs to be more than 3553mm.

Disassembling the
Steel Package

Make sure to work with 2 persons at least.

Following tools are required for this operation.
- Knife
- 17 mm Spanner
- 13 mm Spanner

Cut off the two nylon belts as shown by circle which are fixing the Carton Box for Stand with the steel frame.
Remove 10 bolts for the Top Frame, and remove the Top Frame. (bolt size : 13mm)

- If you remove the bolts, the Top Frame will fall down. The Top
Frame must be supported by one person while another is
removing the bolts.
- Do not remove the bolts at the Bottom Frame before the Top
Frame is removed. The Top Frame will fall down.
Cut off the other nylon belts fixing the Carton Box for Stand, and take the Carton Box out.

Loading and Removing Media

Explain followings in reference to the User's Manual [2-2 Loading and Removing Media] and [6-1 Usable Media].
Conditions for Usable Media

!! IMPORTANT !!
- Do not use media which is severly warped or which has a strong tendency to reroll.
- Never load media that weights more than 20kg (44 lb.)
- Media tends to be jammed if its edge is not straight because of uneven winding.

Load the roll media

When roll media sag severely, use the reinforcement pipe inserted into the roll media.

When the edge of roll media is pushed onto the flange

too hard, use the End Caps instead of flanges.
Media edge can not touch anything because the End
Cap does not have washer.

Flange

End caps

Mount the paper pipe of the Take-up Unit.

(Insert reinforcement pipe into the paper pipe beforehand.)
Pass the media through the printer until its end reached the platen
Fasten the media securely to the paper pipe of the Take-up Unit (Take-up outward curl, inward curl)
Set the orientation for Take-up
Adjust the positioning of the Slider Units to match the width of the media.
Set the Media Clamps
Explain correct position of the Media Clamps.
!! IMPORTANT !!
- When the head height is set at [Low], never use the Media Clamps. The print heads may strike the Media
Clamps and may break.

Removing Media
!! IMPORTANT !!
- Depending on the media, many paper chips stay in cutter guide. If they are left, separating knife may cut
incompletely or it may cause media jamming. Clean them out periodically.

7-13

Operation
In reference to User's Manual, explain followings.
Switching the Power On and Off
This machine has 3 power switches.
Whenever output is finished, turn off switches 2 and 3 as
required.
- Make sure to use the Sub power switch of the printer for
the daily powering on and off.
- When not in printing, unload the media and switch off the
Sub power.
- It takes 15 seconds to turn off by the Sub power button.
Setting the clock to local time
- [SERVICE MENU] > [SUB MENU] > [CLOCK] > [DATE] and [TIME]
Printing Test and Cleaning.
Flip the loading lever back to the rear when not in use. If left down, pinch roller may change its shape.
!! IMPORTANT !!
Due to characteristics of dye sublimation ink, diagonally-fired dots may occur. The result after transferring will
not be affected so much by diagonally-fired dots.
Starting Printing
Explain about Ink Remaining
!! IMPORTANT !!
Explain that displays show an approximate amount of remaining ink, which may differ somewhat from the
actual one.
Pausing or cancelling printing
Setting the printing position and margins
Handling of the ink cartridge
!! IMPORTANT !!
1. Explain followings certainly.
- Do not insert and re-insert used cartridge frequently. Air can go into ink tube and it may cause missing dots.
- Be sure to replace with an item of identical type. Never mix items of different types.
- Never allow the machine to stand with an ink cartridge removed. The print heads may become clogged.
- When printing is paused, the coloring at the seam may be altered when printing resumes. Before you perform lengthy
printing, check the amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridges.

2. Explain about [EMPTY MODE].

- [STOP]: Printing does not start until the empty ink cartridge has been replaced.
- [COUNT.] : Printing starts and continues until the Sub tank becomes empty.
Whichever in [STOP] or [COUNT.], printing stops when the Sub tank becomes empty.

3. Printing does not stop when a cartridge gets empty. Replace cartridge with new one by the time the Sub
tank becomes empty (about 10 minutes).

7-14

Optimizing printing to match media

- Head height
- Vacuum power
- Bidirectional Adjustment
- Calibration
!! IMPORTANT !!
(1) Head Height
Depending on the ink density of printing job, media may be warped or wrinkled on the platen.
In that case, set the head height [HIGH].
(2) Vacuum Power
Printer, Menu
- [AUTO] : Automatically adjusted to the optimal level for the media width.
- [0~100%]: Set as required power by %.
Roland VersaWorks, Printer Controls menu
- [Strong] : Stronger suction power than the optimal level for the media width.
- [Normal] : Automatically adjusted to the optimal level for the media width. (Same as Printer's [AUTO])
(3) Calibration
Calibration value may not work effectively because the media especially transfer paper has expansion or
shrinkage depending on the environment conditions. If overlap (banding) stands out after transferring to the
textile, increase the calibration value to separate bands.
The followings are referential value for recommended media.
Recommended media Coldenhove, Jetcol HTR-3000 (Generic High Transfer Yield Paper) : -0.10
Coldenhove, Jetcol High Speed (Generic Quick Dry Paper) : -0.10

- When you dispose of the discharged ink, go to [MENU]>[SUB MENU]>[MAINTENANCE]>[DRAIN BOTTLE]

and press [ENTER] key to reset the count. Otherwise, the message [CHECK DRAIN BOTTLE] will
appear at inappropriate timing.
- Dispose of discharged fluid properly in accordance with the laws in effect in your locate.

When not in use for a prolonged period

When moving the machine
If the period of not in use is within 10 days, [PUMP UP] should be carried out, and if it is over 10 days, [HEAD
WASH] should be done. For completion of [HEAD WASH], unused 8 pcs of Cleaning Cartridges are required.

Others

Explain the action to take when the head carriage stops over the platen in reference to the Users Manual [56 The Print Heads Stopped Moving]. If the head carriage doesnt go back to the standby position by turning
on the sub power again, it is necessary to cap the heads by a user.
When [SERVICE CALL] error is displayed, explain to switch off and on the machine and check what happens
before calling for inquiry. Doing so may solve the problem.
