Review
Bangkok, 18 November 2014

The representatives of Indonesian women who participated in Asian and Pacific

Conference on Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment: Beijing+20 Review in
Bangkok, Thailand organized on 17-18 November 2014 express our disappointment on
the statements of Indonesian government in response to the Asian Pacific Ministerial
Declaration on Advancing Gender Equality and Womens Empowerment draft outcome
document which will be adopted as official statements of Asia and Pacific countries for
the advancement of women's rights as mentioned in the Beijing Platform for Action +20.
We are in the point of view that the statements of Indonesian government on:
Paragraph 4 of the draft: Indonesia objected the statement of Australia on the review
result of International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), The
Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW),
Vienna Declaration of Human Rights; Indonesia supported Iran and Pakistan, while
Russia did not agree with the term sex and gender, sexual orientation and gender identity.
Paragraph 12: Indonesia objected the term sexual orientation and gender identity
together with Iran, Russia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Maldives.
Paragraph 16: Indonesia disagree with the term various form of families and suggested
to delete text on "different cultural, political and social systems, various forms of the
family exist"
Paragraph 30: Indonesia replaced term sexual and reproductive health and reproductive
rights with reproductive health and reproductive rights.
Paragraph 35: Indonesia supported India to used term armed conflict which is in
contrary with Conflict Social Handling Law in Indonesia.
Paragraph 43: Indonesia rejected term sexual rights proposed by Australia.
Paragraph 46: Indonesia rejected women inherited right in land issue.
The position and statement of Indonesian government supported Iran, Pakistan and
Russia government showed the set back and obstacles to support the advancement of
women rights. In fact, the life and advancement of the women rights in Indonesia in the
past ten years showed many progress and achievement such as:

Law Number 23/ 2000 on Child Protection
