HOW TO APPLY FOR A VISA

STEP 1: Select the type of visa. Many people visit the United States for business or pleasure with
B1 / B2 visa, but there are many different types of visa to study exchange programs, work and
investment in the country. Please visit our Visa Categories for more information. We suggest to
people wishing to travel to the United States to apply for visa well in advance.

STEP 2: Fill out the Application Form DS-160 Nonimmigrant Visa. This form is available online in
English with translation into Spanish. Once filled out, print the "Confirmation Sheet" with the
barcode. View our tips to fill out the DS-160 for additional help.

STEP 3: Cancel rights visa application and schedule appointments to attend the CAS and the
interview through Visa Information Service (CSC). Similarly, you should choose the DHL office to
send your passport. Keep for steps 4 and 5.

Please note that if your last visa was issued after January 1, 2008, with a validity of five years, or
less than 14 or older than 80 years of age you may qualify for our program Quote exception and
may not need to be submitted to the Embassy or CAS. If you made your application for visa renewal
by Appointment Waiver Program passport delivery could take up to three weeks. If you require a
visa to be delivered in a shorter time Schedule your appointment please follow the normal process.
STEP 4: Report to the CAS you selected (Bogota or Medellin) on the date and time of your
appointment, for taking photographs and fingerprints. Visa applicants must submit their current
passport and confirmation sheet DS-160.

STEP 5. Report to the Immigrant Visa Unit of the US Embassy in Bogota on the date and time of
your appointment.

STEP 6: Pick up your passport with visa at the DHL office or CAS you selected in Step 3.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A VISA

Step 1: Complete the online application DS-160 online


All applicants for a nonimmigrant visa, regardless of visa category must complete the DS-160
electronic application online before you schedule your appointments, one for taking photos and
fingerprints and one for the interview in the consulate, this is done through Computer Sciences
Corporation (CSC for its acronym in English). The applicant must complete the DS-160 application
in its entirety and with the correct information.
You can find the DS-160 online application at the following website: https://ceac.state.gov/genniv.
The application must be fully completed in English before scheduling appointments for taking
photos and fingerprints and interview. Once you have completed and submitted your online
application, be sure to print the confirmation page as you will need to schedule your appointments.

* IMPORTANT NOTICE *
The DS160 application must be completely filled in English using the English alphabet. That is, you
can not use letters like , or . For example, instead of writing "So Paulo" type "Sao Paulo." The
only exception is when you are asked your full name in native alphabet, then it is permissible to use
other characters. Include words that are not in English format, except for proper names, may cause
an application to be rejected and delay the dates of their appointments.
For your information, there are translations into many languages of the questions in English and are
available on the menu in the upper right corner of the screen where the application is completed.
These translations can be useful to be filling their format.

Step 2: Pay the Visa process online, by phone, at Banamex or Scotiabank.

Before scheduling your appointments, all applicants must pay the visa application a fee-payment,
one of the following four forms:
1) Through the website Visa Information Service credit card
2) By phone at 01-33-8526-1444, 01-44-9462-8591 01-33-4624-1978 or by credit card
3) In any Banamex or
4) In any Scotiabank branch.
The applicant must retain your receipt to schedule appointments or for further clarification.

Mexican citizens are not required to pay any additional fees after paying the fee described above.
The Applicant Service Center (CAS) does not charge additional fees; If your visa is approved, there
is no extra charge for picking up your visa at DHL.
If you are not Mexican or applying a special type of visa, please consult the Visa Reciprocity section
of the site Travel.State.Gov State Department to see if you need to make any additional payments.
Several types of visas require these payments and the cost differs depending on the nationality and
years of validity of the visa. Payments can be made at the Consulate in dollars, pesos or credit card
during your interview appointment.

Step 3: Schedule an appointment for biometrics in making CAS and to interview at the Consulate

processing time of a particular case may vary depending on the applicant's circumstances and
other special requirements.

We recommend scheduling your appointments in advance of your travel plans, taking into account
the waiting time for appointments and time to pick up your visa. The visa section is closed on public
holidays and demand increases dating prior to Christmas, Easter and summer vacation dates.

To schedule an appointment via the Internet, please have the full name of the applicant, the
information in your passport, the code of your confirmation page DS-160, the number of your
receipt and enter the page Visa Information Service CSC. Once you have entered the information
from the applicant, you can use this site to schedule appointments in the CAS and the Consulate
and determine if you qualify for Waiver of Interview.

When you call an agent in our call center will ask for your full name, passport information, code
confirmation sheet DS-160 and the number of the receipt of the application process. The facility
operator will ask a series of questions to determine if you just require a quote in the CAS or if you
should also schedule an appointment for an interview at the Consulate. It will provide a date and
time for taking his photo and fingerprints on the Applicant Service Center and another date and time
if necessary for your interview at the Consulate.
