Subject: The Prophet Mohammad (sas) in Hindu Sacred Books*

* The Prophet of Islam, Mohammad (pbuh) was last messenger of God to the mankind. This
belief is held by all Muslims in line with the sayings of the Prophet himself. Prophets of other
divine-revelation- based religions e.g., Moses and Jesus (pbut) never claimed to be the last
messenger of God. However, they informed of the advent of such a messenger who will be the
Last Prophet of God. The details of the Last Prophet mentioned in the books of Moses and Jesus
were of two types: proper name of such Messenger and his general attributive description. With
the passage of time, those ancient books were subjected to successive translations from a
language to another, then to some another. In this repeated rendition process and due to some
other known facts, a part of such prophecies was lost or distorted. However, a considerable part
escaped encroachment by both factors which help in pinpointing the Person meant by such
prophecies. *All other messengers except
the Prophet of Islam Mohammad never claimed to be that Last Prophet. However, Mohammad
(pbuh) claimed this stake. Surprisingly, the details of the prophecies contained in previous
divine books are minutely applicable to him and him alone. *Mohammad (pbuh) was born and
lived in full light of the history. His own claims and the prophecies contained in the previous
books make finality of his message beyond any doubt and controversy. Many authoritative
books have been compiled on this topic throughout the centuries and are easily accessible. *One
more startling fact, of late, is being repeatedly exposed to light in this connection with reference
to the Hindu religious scriptures. We find in ancient Hindu religious books i.e., that Vedas and
Puranas, many prophecies foretelling advent of a last messenger (Antim Avatara) who is
basically called the Kalki Avatara . The whole time span of the human being is divided according
to the Hindu belief, into four main
periods: Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwaper Yuga and Kali Yuga. The Kali Yuga is considered the
last era after which the universe is destined to total destruction. * According to their belief, a
final messenger (Antim Avatara) of God named * Kalki Avatara *is to be commissiosned to the
mankind during the era of the Kali Yuga. Vivid description of the Kalki Avatara occurs in most of
the four Veda and eighteen Purana books in different ways. In some instances, he is mentioned
by name while in other instances his attributes and biographical details are elaborated.
*Amazingly, most of such details befit the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) to letter and spirit.*
Before we enter headlong into the subject, let us have a quick glance on the *Hinduism itself.
This is a most ancient religion *having its origin in the Indian subcontinent. But no one knows
who the founder of this religion was and when its inception took place. *The Hindu scriptures
are considered historically
the most ancient books available nowadays being older than both Old and New Testaments.
*The Hindus have no concept of prophethood, yet they have idea of God's incarnation in human
form called Avatara. The Vedas are revered by the Hindus as "apaurusheya" that means in
Sanskrit language "not of human origin". *From some of the contents of Hindu religious books,
we can only say that either they are direct revelation from God or are derived from other divine
literature.* It is quite possible that with passage and process of time, the Hindus might have
mixed up the concept of prophethood with the idea of incarnation in dire confusion. Whatever
be the case, we do find many evidences in their books foretelling of the advent of the Prophet
Mohammad (pbuh). Basically, we Muslims believe that the prophets mentioned by name in our
scripture represent a very small part of the real number of the prophets commissioned by Allah
for guidance of the mankind while a
famous Hadith stipulates that the total number of the messengers reached to 124000. *The Holy
Quran* says: "Indeed We have sent you in truth, as a bearer of good news, and as a Warner.
Indeed there never was a people without a Warner having lived among them (in the past).
(XXXV.24 )"; and "You are only a Warner, and every nation had a Guide. (XIII.7)" These above
texts of the Holy Quran clearly speak of the fact that every nation of the world has a guide from
God. *The prophecies contained in the Hindu religious books `Vedas' and 'Puranas' are mostly
of two kinds*: 1) *Sanskritized variants* of his proper names i.e., Mohammad and Ahmad or
their literal meaning; and 2) *general descriptive attributes of his own person, and accounts of
circumstances and persons surrounding him.* Regarding **his name 'Mohammad' and its
Sanskritized forms, we find 'Mameh', 'Mohmad' and 'Mahamad' (Riga Veda, kand 5, mandal 27,
mantra 1; Atherva Veda, kand 20, sukt 127,
mantra 3; Bhavishya Purana, kand 3, surg 3/3, mantra 5 and 12; Srimad Bhagawat,
mahatampurana, Chapter 2, shlok 76; and Tulasi's Ramacharitamanas, deriving from
Sangrampurana, khand 12, Chapter 6) ** * **Regarding *Sanskritized variants of his name
'Ahmad', we find 'Ahmait', 'Aymid', 'Ahmid' and 'Ahmat' (Riga Veda, mandal 8, mantra 10; Sama
Veda, prapathak 2, dashti 6, mantra 8; Atharva Veda, kand 20 sukt 126, mantra 14; and Yajur
Veda, sukt 31, mantra 18). *** *Let us now review the the ex-pressions that simply represent
meaning of Mohammad's name, (pbuh) or his several attributes. Both names of the Holy
Prophet i.e., Mohammad and Ahmad, mean "praiseworthy" . *While Mohammad (pbuh) lived in
full light of history, his minute biographical account is recorded. Surprisingly, the Vedas and
Puranas contain many attributive ex-pressions to denote the Kalki Avatara, that either mean
praiseworthy in Sanskrit language or imply those well-known biographical
aspects of Mohammad (pbuh). * *This fact supports the hypothesis that those attributes apply
only to the Holy Prophet Mohammad (pbuh). These words from Vedas & Puranas are as
following: *(I.) Narashans (praiseworthy) (Riga Veda, mandal 1, sukt 13, mantra 3; ibid 1/104/4;
2/3/2; 5/5/2; Atherva Veda, kand 20, sukt 127, mantra 3). /(II.) Sushrava (most praiseworthy)
(Riga Veda, mandal 1, sukt 53, mantra 9; Atherva Veda, kand 20, sukt 21, mantra 9). / (III.)
Reebha (praiseworthy) (Atherva Veda, kand 20, sukt 127, mantras 4 and 6). / (IV.) Antim
Avatara(Last Messenger: Mohammad claimed to be the last Messenger) (Bhagavat Purana, kand
1, Chapter 3, shlok 25). / (V.) Jagapati (Lord of the World: Mohammad is called 'Sayyidu Walade
Adam' that means Lord of the mankind) (Bhagavat Purana, kand 12, Chapter 2, shlok 19). / (VI.)
Samudra Doot Arban(means Last Messenger from Arabia) (Riga Veda, mandal 1, sukt 163,
mantra 1). * ** *This is not an exhaustive list. There
are some more similar descriptions that can be reviewed in detailed works. Now we briefly
review the instances that deal with the biographical account of the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh).
**"He will ride camel." (Ref.: Atherva Veda, kand 20, sukt 127, mantra 2)*. * It is well known
that camel is recognized as the ship of desert. The dwellers of Arabian Peninsula used camel as
means of travelling. Mohammad (pbuh) was born in Arabia where camel riding was a common
practice for centuries. The Prophet Mohammad used to ride the camels in his movements. It
further denotes that the *Kalki Avatara will be sent at a time when the camels would be used as
means of transportation, which is essentially not our age.* * * **"He will have 12 wives": (Ref.:
Atharva Veda, kand 20, sukt 127, mantra 2)* Yes, the number of ladies married to him was 12.
The names of his wives are: 1. Khadija, 2. Sawda, 3. Aisha, 4. Hafsa, 5. Zainab bint Khuzaima, 6.
Umm Salama, 7. Zainab bint
Jahash, 8. Umm Habibah, 9. Safiya, 10. Maimuna, 11. Juwairiah, and 12. Raihana (May Allah be
pleased with them all). * * * **"He will be circumcised and bearded. He will not consume pork:
(Ref.: Bhavishya Purana, kand 3, surg 3/3, mantras 25 and 26)* This fact is minutely applicable
to Mohammad (pbuh). It is noteworthy that circumcision is not practiced in India and Hindu
community. Also, prohibition of pork in Islam supports our claim. * ** **"He will face an enemy
of 60,090 men." (Ref: Atharva Veda, kand 20, sukt 127, mantra 1) *Surprisingly the number is
exactly the same as foretold in Vedas. How? The tribe of Quraish allianced with Banu Ghatfan
tribe numbered 10,000 + Ditch war enemy numbered 10,000 + Roman enemy in Tabuk
40,000. The hypocrites who refused to go with the Prophet to fight the enemy were 80, but
other hypocrites who went with the prophet to fight were 12 or 13 and had planned to
assassinate the Prophet on the way back. Of these 2 or 3
repented. Thus the hypocrites totaled 90. The figure is 60,090. * **"He will travel to the heaven
with an unimaginable speed and return to the earth." (Ref : Bhagawat Purana. Skand 12, shloks
19 and 20) This applies to the story of 'Meraj' (literally ascension) of the Prophet to the heaven
at a night while at Makkah before his migration to Madina, and his return to the earth the same
night before dawn. ** * *The Vedas also describe in detail the qualities of his companions and
exact number of some of their categories. *These sacred Hindu books mention *names of the
father and the mother of the Kalki Avatara as Vishnuyash and Sumatya (Ref.: Kalki Purana,
Chapter 2, shloka 11) *respectively. When we refer to meanings of these names in Sanskrit, we
find that "***Vishnuyash" * literally means *"Abdullah" and "Sumatya" *means *"Amina".** *
*Now, it is our duty to invite attention of our Hindu friends to these facts which has not properly
been disclosed
earlier. You are free to circulate this article as widely as possible. For further reading: 1. Dr.
