Meiosis Wall project

Assignment: Create a Meiosis


Wall You can, and should be creative when working on this project! You will be graded on
your creativity as well as content knowledge. The following things MUST be included in your project
but think about other things you can add to make it your own so that you can achieve a high
creativity score! Please see the rubric for more information on how you will be scored.

Note: The fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, has 4 pairs of chromosomes.
1. In your poster draw a fruit fly cell with four chromosome pairs.
2. Next, draw this cell in the different stages of meiosis, illustrating the
production of male gametes or female gametes. Show crossing over.
Refer to your text/notes if you do not remember the differences.
3. Differentiate between haploid and diploid cells in your poster. How
many total chromosomes would be in each of the gametes after
meiosis? Make sure this is clear on your project
4. Explain the differences between meiosis and mitosis on your poster. In
your discussion please include the purpose of meiosis and why mitosis
cannot perform that function.
5. Remember

to include all the vocabulary terms associated with meiosis


and a concept map of meiosis.
