ABSTRACT

This report is a synthesis of research findings and current practices in the design,
selection, and application of rumble strips at work zones. The information presented
here is based on a review of research reports and work zone manuals from a
selection of state and local highway agencies, discussions with highway officials, and
field observations of a selection of highway construction projects. The report presents
an assessment of the state-of-the-practice and makes recommendations for further
research and inclusions in the future revisions of the Manual on Uniform Traffic
Control Devices.
