EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The state of Meghalaya has tremendous investment opportunities because of the various
resources it has been endowed with. Over the years, a number of sectors have been identified
as having potential investment opportunities, viz.

i.
ii.
iii.
iv.

Mineral based industry

Horticulture and Agro based industry
Tourism
Power generation (Existence of Hydro Power Potential)

Out of the above, Tourism is one business opportunity which has been
generating a lot of revenue for the state of Meghalaya in the past years.
The tourist traffic into the state has been increasing, and it has opened up
better and beautiful opportunities in this sector. In fact, the capital of
Meghalaya, Shillong already has a mention in the top 15 hill stations of
India. However, even though Meghalaya as a whole, has a variety to offer
to its tourists, the people coming in to the state or even willing to come
have knowledge only of Shillong and not of the rest of the state. This fact
can also be observed when the various packages of the top travel
companies only mention Shillong in their Northeast India packages and
ignore the rest of the Meghalaya.

Cox & Kings

Thus, our intention is to introduce Meghalaya in a different light altogether.

And, we intend to help Meghalaya shine in entirety.
Also, The people living in India (outside the Northeastern states) and
abroad need to be made aware of :

the differences that exist amongst the various states of the

Northeastern part of the country,

and thereby introduce them to the unique traditions, customs,

cuisine, lifestyle etc. of the people of Meghalaya.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

series of hills rising to almost the same height, extending northwards to slope gradually, merging with
the plain of Assam. The summit of these hills varies from 70 m to 820m. The height of the central
plateau of the Khasi Hills hovers around 500 m with the Shillong peak (965m), the highest point in the
plateau, overlooking Shillong Town.
The Garo Hills which form the western part of Meghalaya are lower in elevation. The greater parts of the
Garo Hills range in height from 450m to 600m and drop steeply to the Brahmaputra valley on the north
and to the plains of Bangladesh on the south. Nokrek (42m) east of Tura town is the highest peak in
western Meghalaya.

TOURISM IN JANTIA HILLS

Jaintia Hills is one of the districts in Meghalaya. The present district was created in 22 February 1972 and
occupies an area of 389 km. It has a population of 295,692 (as of 2000), of which a vast majority is rural.
The district headquarters is located at Jowai.
The major attractions in Jaintia Hills are:
Thadlaskein Lake: Located 56 kms from Shillong and 8 Kms from Jowai off NH44, this lake is a popular picnic resort. According to tradition, the lake was dug
by the followers of the Jaintia Chieftain U Sajar Nangli.
Kiang Nangbah Monument: Located on the banks of Syntu Ksiar, alongside the
river Myntdu, there is a vast field known as Madiah Kmai Blai. At the centre of
this field stands the elegant Kiang Nangbah Monument, a hollow tower-like
structure of typical Jaintia design, erected by the Jaintia people in honor of U
Kiang Nangbah, the Jaintia patriot who died a martyr to the cause of Jaintia
freedom, at the hands of the British rulers.
Dawki Bridge: Dawki is located on the Indo-Bangla Frontier at the end of the
Guwahati-Shillong-Dawki Road. i.e. N.H-40. As one crosses the international
frontiers at Dawki, one steps on to Tamabil to converge onto the TamabilSylhet-Dhaka Highway of Bangladesh. Very close to the Dawki customs check
post flows the Dawki River with Jaintia Hills District on one side and East Khasi
Hills District on the other. An eye-catching motorable suspension bridge spans
the Dawki River to complete the missing link of NH-40. The bridge, an
engineering feat was constructed by the British before India became
independent, as the overland life-line between the provinces of East Bengal and
Assam. The bridge, though old, is an impeccable standard of maintenance,
adding to the general beauty of the picturesque border town of Dawki, known for its sweet, juicy orange
market.
Nartiang Temple: This temple of the Hindu Goddess Durga was constructed by the Jaintia King on
conversion to Hinduism. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple was earlier connected by a steep tunnel
with the river Myntang which flows just below the hill on which the temple stands. According to
tradition, during the time of the Jaintia kings, sacrifice was offered each year during Durga Puja, at the
sanctum sanctorum of the temple. As the head of the sacrificial offering was severed, it fell and rolled
down the tunnel into the river Myntang. Till today, a he-goat is ceremoniously sacrificed at the sanctum
sanctorum of the temple, each year during Durga Puja festival.

Lyngskor LOamare and the inhabitants of Nartiang village between
500 A.D and 835 A.D.to commemorate glorious event of the Jaintia
Kingdom. The Law Mulong as well as the adjacent Nartiang market

of green paddy fields, which opens up to the gushing Tyrshi falls thundering down to the Pynthor

MARKETING
The heart of your business success lies in its marketing. Most aspects of your business depend on
successful marketing. The overall marketing umbrella covers advertising, public relations,
promotions and sales. Marketing is a process by which a product or service is introduced and
promoted to potential customers. Without marketing, your business may offer the best products or
