Scope

Following are the scope and limitation of the project:


1. Total work must be completed within 2 year.
2. Construction of the infrastructure work should strictly follow AASHTO guidelines and codes.

3. Providing and laying of RCC pipes must according to ASTM.

Objectives

The main objectives of the project are


1. Completion of the project within required time and estimated cost
2. There must be no compromise in quality and scope.

1.4

Methodology

The steps for the construction of this project adopted are hiring of consultants, then design, bid and
then construction.The whole infrastructure work would divide into different work packages. These work
packages would comprise of number of streets. Skilled and non-skilled labors are hired to do the job.
The main concerned is quality and completion of given task as per specified amount of time and cost
estimated. The Contractor is accountable to hire all the sub-contractors and material providers needed
for the project.

Beneficiaries:

The major beneficiaries of this project are DHA and the general public. DHA would get revenue by selling
their land and plots, while the common public will get a secure, safe and healthy environment for living
near beach.

Project data

2.1.1 Project General Information


The project is composed of construction of streets and other utility works in DHA phase 8 sector
D, Karachi. The owner of the project is DHA, consultant is Osmani & company Pvt. Ltd., and
contractor is NHA. There are around 33 streets present in the project.
2.1.2 Structural Details
The project is of traditional infrastructure road work. Following are some of the structural detail
of the overall project.

Pre-cast kerb block are provided

Sub-grade CBR not less than 20%.

Sub-base compacted to minimum of 98% density.

Aggregate Base course compacted to minimum of 100% density.

Pipes Dia include 300mm and 200mm.

For sewerage system, steel reinforcement bars have minimum yield stress of 60,000psi.

2.1.3 Finishing Details


Following are finishing details of overall project

Painting with colorized plastic emulsion paint of approved shade two coats.

Pavement markings in reflective paint as per drawing and specifications

Reflectorized metallic pavements studs(double sided)

Traffic signs are provided including triangular, circular plate, rectangular post, and
rectangular plate.

Project Appraisal

3.1

Design and Specification Review

Planning and Design stage is the major prospect for successful project. The site must be zero accident
and Safe for all the persons involve in the project. More ease, efficiency and litigation are main
objectives of healthy construction project. Client mainly looks for better construction which includes
quality of work and efficient design. Some of planning considerations are as follows:

Construction must not affect adjacent sea. Debris and waste material raised during construction
must not disturb natural environment

Design must be sustainable.

All the equipment manpower and other resources well integrated.

Value engineering must apply.

Proper communication should present between site and design office.

3.2

Area and Site Construction Practice

Some of site area considerations are as follows.

Batching plant for asphalt and concrete must be near.

Water must be easily available

Diesel for running grader, compactor and roller must be present in stock. Otherwise
unavailability of diesel may cause time over run.

Sand and required aggregates must be present on site or nearby.

Proper route network is present to the site, so equipment and material are easily transfer to the
site

There is uncertainty condition of electricity, so generators need to be kept in place as standby.

Project must be planned in such a way that asphalt on different sections of the road is done on
same day.

The boundary should be fenced off from a security point of view.

Traffic regulatory signs must present, it helps in guiding the traffic on the site and avoid
accidents to a considerable extent.

It is necessary to provide camp accommodation for all type of staff involved in the project as the
project is nearly out of city.

It is necessary to have water and toilet facilities in convenient locations to accommodate the
work force.

Fire extinguishers and first aid services must present, as burning asphalt may cause huge
damage to life
