One-Hour Technology Workshop Lesson Plan

Lesson: Get To Know Google Apps With Google Drawings
Subject: Instructional Technology
Audience: BES Paraprofessionals, BES Teachers, BA Teachers
Duration: One Hour
Overview: Teachers will get an overview of the basic tools and processes of Google
Drawings. Teachers will learn the following concepts within Google Drawings: page
size and orientation, inserting shapes and word art, font, color, sizing, line tools,
image cropping and masking, and image recoloring. Throughout the duration of the
session teachers will be provided opportunities to explore and play with the various
tools in Google Drawings. This session will provide the attendee with enough basic
knowledge of Google Drawings to be able to work independently or redeliver to
students for classroom use.

Objectives:
Teachers will be able to locate and identify the following Google Drawing tools and
toolbar icons: undo, redo, selection tool, line tool, line color, line weight, line dash,
font and more fonts tool, shape tool, polyline tool, curve tool, scribble tool, insert
image tool, and the mask image tool.
Teachers will be able to successfully perform a Google search query from within the
insert image tool of Google Drawings.
Teachers will be able to successfully mask an image and make a duplicate copy of
the masked image.
Teachers will be able to locate and use the alignment guides within a Google
Drawing.
Teachers will be able to crop and resize an image.
Teachers will be able to insert, resize, recolor, change the font, and make both single
row and vertically columned word art.
Teachers will be able to locate from within Gmail the Google Apps icon and
successfully create a new Google Drawing.
Teachers will be able to locate and use the image options feature of Google
Drawings to recolor, re-tint, and adjust brightness, contrast and transparency of an
image.
Procedures and Instructional Process:

The Instructional Technology Coach will introduce Google Drawings and


offer background on what it is and possible uses for teachers and the
classroom.

Teachers will be asked to login into their school issued Gmail account and
locate the Google Apps icon.
Teachers will then create a new drawing and resize and reorient the page to
match standard copy paper size.
Teachers will be asked to first insert a frame from the shape tools and then
recolor the frame and background of their drawing.
Teachers will be prompted to explore the line color, line dash, and line
weight tools to manipulate the edges of their frame.
Teachers will explore the polyline, curve, and scribble tools.
Teachers will insert word art and manipulate the size, color, font, and single
or vertical row composition of their word art.
Teachers will explore the insert image, image search, and tinted image search
features.
Teachers will crop, resize, align, recolor, re-tint, and adjust the transparency
of their chosen image.
Teachers will explore image masking and creating multiple instances of an
image masked graphic.
