Tellabs 8611 Access Switch

A compact, high-density, multi-protocol, modular access switch designed for the growing
service requirements in 4G and LTE networks.
Overview
The Tellabs 8600 Managed Edge System provides a complete
network solution comprising of the Tellabs 8660 Edge Switch, the
Tellabs 8630, Tellabs 8620, Tellabs 8611, Tellabs 8609, Tellabs
8607 and Tellabs 8605 Access Switches, and the Tellabs 8000
Intelligent Network Manager, an advanced network management
system for managing the entire network and all of its connections and
services.
The Tellabs 8611 switch is a compact and highly modular nextgeneration access element. It improves and offers more services by
delivering high-capacity data in 3G, 4G and LTE networks. With 10
Gigabit of switching capacity, the Tellabs 8611 switch is cost-efficient,
powerful and easily scalable. With 7 slots for physical interface
modules, the Tellabs 8611 switch is ideal for service providers large
cell sites or small hub aggregation sites in areas where there is greater
demand for mobile services The interface and power feed
modularity improves various site configurations and also optimizes
inventory management. The fully redundant switching and control
module (SCM) enables unsurpassed reliability. Versatile service
capabilities, covering TDM, ATM, HDLC and Ethernet connectivity as
well as IP routing, enable the migration of 2G TDM and 3G ATM,
Ethernet or IP-based networks into a single network infrastructure.
The Tellabs 8611 switch has packet-based forwarding with QoS
awareness, enabling network optimization for voice and data services

Benefits
Compact size
The height of the unit is 2RU and the depth is only 300mm, which
enables installations at sites where the rack space is limited.
Wide temperature range
The operating temperature of the Tellabs 8611 switch is -40C to
+65C, allowing installations in cabinets without climate control.
Modular architecture
Modularity for power and interfaces enables minimizing the spare
inventory and choosing an optimal configuration for every site. Line
modules, including Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, 10G Ethernet, E1/
T1, DS3 and STM1/OC3 are easy to change by the user. The same
applies to the power and fan modules, which are hot swappable.
Carrier Class Reliability
The Tellabs 8611 switch provides carrier-class reliability via
redundant Switching and Control Module (SCM). Each switching
and control module includes fully independent switch fabric, control
plane, synchronization and management ports and alarm interfaces.

Robust synchronization
The Tellabs 8611 switch supports both TDM and packet-based synchronization techniques for timing information. The Tellabs 8611 switch
is a compact and highly modular access element with multiprotocol
support. Integration of Ethernet and pseudowire technology makes it
attractive for 2G, 3G, WiMax cell sites and network evolution.
Cost efficient migration from E1 and T1 to Ethernet
The Tellabs 8611 switch provides a cost-efficient and seamless way
of converting a mobile access network from an E1/T1 TDM network
to an Ethernet-based packet network.
Reliable voice and data service today and tomorrow
The Tellabs 8611 switch supports the transport of voice and data
services in 3G, 4G and LTE networks. The advanced quality of service
features enables the differentiation of real-time voice and video
services from premium and best effort data services.
OAM and Packet Loop Test to ensure QoS
The Tellabs 8611 supports an extensive set of proprietary and
standards based OAM capabilities to ensure network availability and
to maintain QoS requirements for voice, video and data services.
The Tellabs 8611 supports LSP Ping, LSP Traceroute, and Ethernet
OAM functions from IEEE 802.1ag and Y.1731. The Tellabs 8611
also supports a unique Packet Loop Test tool that enables the testing
of quality of service (QoS) parameters including delay, jitter,
throughput and connectivity.
Delay and jitter testing are non-intrusive and therefore can be
performed even if the service is live. Test endpoints are selected
using the Tellabs 8000 intelligent manager without the need for
additional hardware testing or site visits.
Advanced packet network management
As part of the Tellabs 8600 system, the Tellabs 8611 switch is fully
end-to-end managed with the Tellabs 8000 intelligent manager. All
interface, service and connection level parameters are configured re-
