Manhattan Project

Based upon what
we know about
nuclear warfare
today, do you feel
that the Manhattan
Project was a good
idea? Justify your
response.

Critical Questioning: a strategy where partners interact with a previously established

perspective by only challenging the others position through questions.
Partner A: It is 1945 and you are an American soldier
fighting in the Pacific. You have seen thousands of
your fellow soldiers die while island-hopping your
way to Japan. Knowing that the Japanese have no
intention of surrender, you are mentally preparing
for a massive invasion:

Partner B: You are a physicist who has been working

on the atomic bomb since the start of the Manhattan
project. You have seen first-hand its incredible
destructive power. Knowing that the war is still in full
force in the Pacific, you are worried about the decision
President Truman may make:

I dont know how much longer I will be alive.

The Japs are training their women and
children to fight to the death; every last one
of them An invasion will be months of
bloodshed for both sides.

The bomb very well may scare the Japanese

into surrender But the outcome of using such
a destructive and deadly weapon on a
population will not only cause mass
casualtiesbut will change the face of warfare
forever.
