WORK DONE(OCT-NOV)
City Gas Demand Calculation
For Calculating gas Pipeline diameter we have to first calculate the City Gas Distribution
demand for the city sector wise:-

Customer in a city:1.

Domestic Consumer

2.

Transportation
Bus
Three wheelers
Four wheelers

3.

Industrial and commercial requirement

The total gas required by the city is being calculated sector wise:-

Domestic Consumer
Algorithm
Let No. of Households in the city= a
Each House LPG cylinder usage=b
Standard Weight of an LPG in cylinder=14.7 kg
Calorific Value of LPG=11750 Kcal/m3
Calorific Value of NG=9230 Kcal/m3
Amount of LPG consumed in each house=(14.7*b)/30 Kg/day
Equivalent amount of NG=(LPG amount)*[(LPG calorific value)/NG calorific value)]
Volumetric Flow Rate=Mass flow rate/Density of NG
Total Domestic Demand,X= a*Volumetric Flow Rate*10-6 MMSCMD

Transportation Sector

A transportation sector covers all kinds of vehicles as: Buses

Bajaj Auto(Three wheeler)
Cars(Four wheelers)
Nowadays Petrol and Diesel both are costly so both type of consumers want to have
options at their hands to opt for CNG engines and if we use CNG engines it is beneficiary
for both consumer and environment because it reduces the release of environmental
pollutants.
Algorithm
Let the No. of particular type of vehicles =a
Fuel Type Used=Diesel/Gasoline
Vehicle Peak Demand Usage=b litre/day
Total Fuel Consumed= a*b

Equivalent amount of CNG=(Fuel amount)*[(Fuel calorific value)/CNG calorific value)]

CNG Total Demand for the vehicle,Y (MMSCMD)=Mass flow rate/Density of CNG

Commercial and Industrial Sector

It is very difficult to calculate exact demand for commercial and industrial sector without
their cooperation. As a result for this project we can assume the demand in this sector.
Let the industrial demand be Z MMSCMD.

Total Demand of Gas MMSCMD , Qstandard=X+Y+Z

Now in order to calculate Qactual we using the following equation:-

(Pstan*Qstan)/Tstan=(Pact*Qact)/(Tact*Z)
Where,

Pstan=1 bar
Tstan=15oC
Pact=19 bar
Tact=25oC
Z=compressibility Factor

Calculation of Z
Calculation of Z is done using standard correlation available in literature:-

Compressbiliity Factor,Z

In this project we will be using Standing and Katz, 1942 compressibility factor for
natural gas charts:-

Pseudo Reduced Pressure,Pr

Compressibility factor for natural gases as a function of reduced pressure and

temperature (After Standing and Katz,1942;courtesy of SPE of AIME)
