INTRODUCTION

This document describes how to configure the TT-3026SSA Mini-C so it is ready for position
reporting in all 4 ocean regions.
This document is intended as a guideline for distributors selling the TT-3026SSA Mini-C to
customers who want to use their SSAS system for tracking as well.
It is assumed that the TT-3026SSA already has been commissioned and a DNID number has
been requested and received from the service provider.

DNID

This chapter will explain how to apply for DNID, how to configure it at the LES and in
the TT-3026SSA Mini-C.

3.1

DNID Application

First of all it is necessary to apply for a DNID number at a preferred ISP. An example
of DNID application form from Telenor, EIK is shown in Appendix.

3.2

DNID Account

When applying for a DNID it is necessary to have the DNID account configured
correct at the LES in order to receive the position reports in the desired format.
The position reports can either be forwarded from the LES as plain text (Latitude &
Longitude) or as a binary file. Plain text is normally used when the customer does not
want to invest in a fleet tracking software with electronic chart etc. The binary format is
normally used when the customer want to receive the position reports at a Fleet
Tracking software showing the vessels on electronic charts (F.ex T&T Capsat Manager
Fleet Tracking software).
Recommeded DNID settings:
1) Position reports in plain text
Ocean region:

Delivery Destination:

Delivery Option:

Data Report Decoding:
TEXTUAL DECODING

2) Position reports in binary format

DNID Pre-Definition

After receipt of a DNID from the LESO it is necessary to have the DNID downloaded
to each of the TT-3026SSA Mini-Cs. One DNID can be used to track up to 255 vessels
as it is possible to have 255 members on a DNID. The owner of the DNID decide
which TT-3026SSA Mini-C (vessel) should have which Member Number. The DNID
and Member Number have to be downloaded by the LESO to each TT-3026SSA MiniC in each ocean region. This is only possible to do when the TT-3026SSA Mini-C is
logged in to each Ocean Region (satellite). As this in some cases is difficult for the
distributor to do, because all four satellites are not visible from one point, T&T has
implemented a command to be able to pre-define the DNIDs in each ocean region in
the TT-3026SSA Mini-Cs.
The reason for pre-defining the DNIDs in the TT-3026SSA Mini-Cs is to be able to
configure the reporting settings in the TT-3026SSA Mini-C before delivery of the
equipment to the customer.
This chapter describes how to pre-define the DNIDs.

3.3.1

Login as System Administrator

In order to get access to the DNID pre-definition option it is necessary to log in as

System Administrator. This is done with the su sysadm command.
The default factory password for System Administrator is sysadm. Upon login to System
Administrator user level the TT-3026SSA Mini-C will ask the operator to change the
default System Administrator password to a password of minimum 8 characters.
To log in to system administrator user level use the su sysadm command. See Figure 1
below.
: su sysadm
Enter password: ******
Enter new password: ********
Confirm new password: ********
Password for user sysadm changed.
:

Figure 1: Log in as System Administrator

NOTE: REMEMBER THE NEW PASSWORD!
Otherwise the TT-3026SSA has to be sent back to T&T for resetting of the password.

Create Pre-Defined DNID

To create a Pre-defined DNID use the dn o command. See syntax in Figure 2

below:
: dn
Usage: dn <option>
-o <LES>,<DNID>,<mem>,,<predef>,<provider>

: Create DNID

Figure 2: dn -o command syntax

The parameters to the o option are :
1) LES ID, (F.ex 104 for EIK, Telenor in East Atlantic)
2) DNID No., (Max 5 digit number, 1 99999, F.ex 8087)
3) Member No. (1 255)
4) Sub Address, Should be 1 for position reporting
5) Pre-Defined, Must be 1 to indicate predefined DNID (not active)
6) Provider, Can be any text, F.ex: Thrane & Thrane A/S
Below in Figure 3 is an example of how to make Pre-Defined DNID for all Ocean
Regions:
: dn -o 004,8087,123,1,1,"Thrane & Thrane A/S"
: dn -o 104,8087,123,1,1,"Thrane & Thrane A/S"
: dn -o 204,8087,123,1,1,"Thrane & Thrane A/S"
: dn -o 304,8087,123,1,1,"Thrane & Thrane A/S"

DNID Configuration

Before usage and installation of the TT-3026SSA Mini-C it is recommended to configure

which information the TT-3026SSA Mini-C should include in the position reports it is going
to send.
The DN p command is used to do configure the DNID:
DN p Command syntax:
dn p <entry>,<auth>,<cat>,<date>,<iopin>,<speed>,<1pack>,<ustr>,<prec>
For the Norwegian Fishery Project the AUTHorisation level, CATegory and DATE format
has to be configured with the dn p command.

3.4.1

Authorization (Auth)

It is recommended to set the authorization level to SYSADM so a normal user can not
change the configuration and nor will the scheduled program connected to DNID be
visible.
Auth = 2, for System Administrator

3.4.2

Category (Cat)

The CATegory of the position reports will be set to Inmarsat Standard Maritime
Position reporting format which will include position, timestamp, mem-code, speed in
knots and course.
The category of the position reports are configured using the dn command mentioned
above.
Cat = 1, for Maritime reports

3.4.3

DN command

This section will explain how to configure the DNID using the dn command.

Figure 7 shows that the Auth has been set to 2 which mean System administrator user level,
the Cat has been configured to 1 which means Maritime reports are sent on these DNID
entries.
Now the four DNIDs have been Pre-Defined in the TT-3026SSA Mini-C and will
automatically be active when the same DNIDs are downloaded by the LESO in each ocean
region.

Group DNIDs

When a vessel has to be tracking in different ocean regions it is recommended to

download four DNIDs, one for each Ocean Region and then group the DNIDs
together so a remote interval reporting program will work without interruption.
The dn e command is used to group the DNIDs together. See Figure 8 below.

To make a new position reporting program it is necessary to open a connection using

the pg o command. See Figure 10 below.
: pg -o 104,8087

Figure 10: Open a new position reporting program

In Figure 10 is shown that a new program has been allocated to connection 0 in the
TT-3026SSA Mini-C.

4.2

Reporting Interval

Next step is now to program this connection to report once per hour using the pg p
command. See Figure 11 below

The connection 0 has now been programmed to report every 417th frame which is
approximately equal to once per hour as one frame is 8.64 seconds. The connection 0
shows that there is a local program which is programmed with an interval but stopped
(PU[s]).

4.3

Initiate Interval Program

The initiation of the interval program has to be done after the DNIDs have been downloaded
and the DNIDs have changed status from being pre-defined to be real DNIDs.
It is necessary to change the program from being a local program to be a remote program
using the pg e command. Otherwise it will not be possible to change reporting interval and
Start/stop the interval program remotely.
Changing the program from being local to remote is only necessary because the program was
created locally using a terminal program connected to the RS-232 of the TT-3026SSA MiniC. If the program had been created from remote it would already have been a remote
program.
In Figure 12 below is the configuration of the program shown:

Now the TT-3026SSA is ready to have the DNIDs downloaded for real from the LES.
It is recommended that the distributor download as many of the DNIDs possible from
his location before delivery to the customer. Later when the vessel moves to an ocean
region where there is no available real DNID (only pre-defined) this DNID can be
downloaded by the LES on request and the TT-3026SSA Mini-C will continue to send
position reports in that ocean region as well.
