Course Description:
This course touches on the theoretical concepts of development and its
approaches. It likewise discusses in the different indicators of development to give the

graduate students a working background in the study of relevant issues in the social,
economic, and political dimensions of the Philippine society.
Objectives of the Course
General: Facilitates the development of a critical mind among the students which will
help them understand, evaluate, and plan for development in the national level.
Specific:
1. Develop a proper understanding about development based on different
perspectives.
2. Analyze current issues connected to development and identify factors that
cause the emergence of these issues.
3. Formulate alternative plans for development which will provide strategies for
an authentic and more relevant development.
4. Develop the skill in formulating proposals for developmental projects.

1. How do people think of development? Conduct a
survey with people coming from the different sectors
of the society and ask them about their
understanding of development.

development based on age, educational level, and

answers. What difference can you identify? Indicate
problems that can arise because of these different
perceptions about solving a common problem and
propose a suggestion on how this can be solved.
2. Why are there developmental projects implemented
in your place not effective and sustainable? What
factors can you identify that may have contributed to

that can be used as an alternative so that the same
problem will not occur again in the implementation
of developmental projects in the country.
