ACTIVITIES FOR FURUNO MARINE RADAR MODEL
1724C/1734C COLOUR VIDEO PLOTTER GD-1720C
5.1 CHECKING THE POWER SUPPLY
In order to allow proper operation of the Furuno Marine Radars after the installation, the vessels
power supply specification must satisfy the requirements detailed in the following table. One
must keep the battery properly charged and arrange at anytime to prevent it from discharging.
One thing that must be taking into serious consideration is that to install this marine radar, the
usage of AC power supply must be avoided.

5.2 STANDARD WIRING

In order to have the best output and to have a reliable output the correct usage of the cable length
must be kept as short as possible. Keep the distance from the scanner to the control box within
the standard cable length of 10 m. If the use of a longer cable for unavoidable reasons, limit the
cable length to a maximum of 100 m only. The power cable is shipped along with a 10A fuse
inserted in its fuse holder. This equipped fuse is for use with a 12 VDC power supply. If the ship
owner would like to use with a 24 VDC power supply, we must replace the fuse with a 5A fuse.
Also, not to forget we must attach the "5A label" to the fuse holder on the power cable. Bear to
remember the use of an improper fuse can result in damage to the equipment.

There are numerous number of cable which must be connected to their own socket or terminal as
to ensure that the radar is functioning as we want it to be.
5.3 SIGNAL CABLE CONNECTION

As for the connection for signal cable, there are several step which needed to be followed, it is:
1. The waterproofing cladding cover was removed first from the DJ-1 at the back of the
radar display unit.
2. Then we now can connect the DJ-1 signal cable on the rear panel of the display unit
3. The connector must be covered with the rubber cover as to avoid any undesirable
condition.

4. The boot-band then being assemble as shown above, all of the 4 screw then put into
fix.

5.4 GROUND TERMINAL

Connect the ground wire (local supply, IV-2sq) between the ground terminal and ships
Ground.

5.5 NETWORK PORT

In this section, this port can be used to connect with another type of NavNet Equipment. Along
with the optional NavNet cable. Available equipment are shown in the table below.

5.6 EXTERNAL BUZZER (OP03-136, OPTION) CONNECTION

This is an optional external buzzer provided along with this marine radar. This buzzer would
provide a louder alert when the guard alarm is violated and being triggered.

EXTERNAL BUZZER

TYPE : OP03-136

CODE NO : 000-086-443

As for further assemble, we need the optional cable assv MJ-A7SPF0007-050C (w/7P connector,
5 m, code no. 000-154-028-10).

1. Attach the MJ-A7SPF0007-050C cable assy (option) to the DATA 3 port at the rear of
the display unit.
2. Cut the XH connector at the end of external buzzer cable with appropriate length.

3. Solder the cables made at step 2 with MJ-A7SPF0007-050C cable as shown above
4. Fasten the buzzer with the double-sided tape or two tapping screws (3x15 or 3x20, local
supply).

5.7 CONNECTING THE SYSTEM WITH PC

To connecting the radar with the personal computer, optional cable assemble MJ-A7SPF0007050C and D-sub 9 pins plug (local supply) was prepared. The connection of its port can be
clearly being observed as follows. This function is not available with the GD-1720C
