Ethernet Configuration
To configure the MACH-Global controller for Ethernet
operation select the IP Addresses button after connecting to
the controller as described in the previous section. The
following screen will be displayed.

The screen is organised in the areas discussed below:

!

The Address Table is the collection of IP addresses necessary

for this panel to network. The table has a column for the IP
address of each panel on the network and a column that will
display the MAC Address of each device on the network.

connected to.
with the Reliable Controls
MACH-System; either the
network will exist by itself (dedicated) or will be joined to an
existing network. In the case where the network is dedicated
the numbers can be anything so long as each panel on the
network is assigned a unique number, and the first of the
four numbers are not 0. The Reliable Controls convention,
for dedicated networks, is to assign the first three numbers
to 192.168.1 and the fourth number would be the assigned
panel number. When the network will be added to an existing
network you will need to obtain the IP addresses from the
Network Administrator. To remove an address from the table
change it to 0.0.0.0.
" The MAC Address column is a read only column that
identifies each device that is part of the network. The first
three groups of numbers in this address are assigned by
IEEE, and are Organizationally Unique Identifiers (OUI) for
each manufacturer. The numbers 00-02-D9 identify devices
manufactured by Reliable Controls. The fourth group
identifies the individual product and the remaining groups
detail the serial number of the product.
" Where a router is involved in the network you will need to
enter the IP address of the router in the Router row. The IP
address will be obtained from the Network Administrator.

" The address of the panel being setup must be entered in the
Self row.
!

Under TCP/IP Setup the Subnet Mask, and MTU (Maximum

Transmission Unit) are typically obtained from the Network
Administrator. If this is a dedicated network for the Reliable
Controls MACH-System the subnet mask should be set to
0.0.0.0 and the MTU set to 1500.
" The Subnet Mask is used to identify panels that must be
accessed via a router.
" The MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) is used to determine
the maximum packet size when sending data.

Use the file management buttons on the lower right. Choose

Send to send the changes to the panel you are connected to.
Use Load to verify the changes were sent correctly.

Once the IP Addresses for all panels on the network have

been entered use File Save to save the table for use with
other Ethernet enabled panels (ETHER-Link,
MACH-Global, MACH-Net, and MODBUS-Link). Each of
these panels has a table containing the IP addresses of all the
other panels on the network. These tables must be
configured in each panel.

After configuring the first panel and

saving the table, MSet the next
panel and use the Get File
command to import the table.

Panels that are connected directly

to the Ethernet require individually
different (unique) IP addresses.

Each input has an LED indicator that displays a brightness

proportional to the input signal level.

Input expansion cards are connected to the controller from Left

to Right, with inputs 1 to 16 in port 1 and inputs 17 to 32 in port
2 etc.

Power for the input expansion cards is supplied by the

MACH-Global controller via the ribbon cables used for
connection.

Wire the input signal to the

positive terminal (+), and the
input common to the
corresponding negative
terminal (-).

Mount all input expansion cards in

the same enclosure as the MACHGlobal Controller.

Output Expansion Cards
The MACH-Global output expansion card is a general
purpose universal output card that is designed for use with
the MACH-Global controller.
!

MACH-Global expansion cards are powered with a 24 VAC

50 VA power supply. (Requires 30 VA nominal for 16 outputs @
20 mA each).

The number of expansion cards is configured using the MSet

tool in RC-Toolkit.

Universal outputs can be configured as either digital (binary) or

analogue (modulating). (0-12 VDC, 75 mA each)

Each output can be connected to a two-wire output device (relay,

actuator).

Every output features a Hand/Off/Auto switch for convenient

override in the field. The position of the HOA switch is fed back to
RC-Studio for viewing.

A maximum of eight output expansion cards can be connected

to one MACH-Global controller.

Output expansion cards are connected to the controller from

Right to Left, with outputs 1 to 16 in port 8 and output 17 to 32 in
port 7 etc.

Each output expansion card features an onboard power switch.

Networking

Networking
The Reliable Controls MACH-System can be networked in a
variety of ways, which are discussed in the Networking the
Reliable Controls MACH-System document.
When employing EIA-485 and EIA-422 networks with the
MACH-Global controller the next two sections are relevant.
Network Connections
The MACH-Global controller has four EIA-485 network
ports. Two of the ports (Main and AUX~EIA-485) can be
converted to EIA-422 operation.
EIA-485 Connection
To make an EIA-485 connection:
!

Connect one conductor to the A terminal (also known as

negative) and the other to the B terminal (also known as
positive). Maintain the same polarity for the whole network
segment.

When shielded cable is used, ground the shielding in one place

only and join the shields together using a wire nut (marrette)
where appropriate.

EIA-422 Connection
To make an EIA-422 connection (MAIN~MS/TP 1 and AUX
EIA-485/EIA-422):
!

34

MAIN~MS/TP 1 - toggle the Net DIP switches down on the left

side.

2002 Reliable Controls Corporation

MACH-Global Controller

Networking
!

AUX~EIA-485/EIA-422 - toggle the Net DIP switches down on

the left side.

Both MAIN~MS/TP 1 and AUX EIA485/EIA-422 ports have five

terminals. Upper A and B are receiver inputs and lower A and B
are transmitter outputs.

Try to Daisy-Chain the network cable as shown below. Avoid

Star and Stub connections.

EIA-485 Connection
End-of-Line Termination
On all EIA-485 networks it is necessary to add end-of-line
(EOL) terminators to prevent reflected noise returning into the
network. The EOL terminators must be installed on the
controllers at the extremities of the network. To determine the
network extremities, calculate the maximum length between
any two controllers. The controllers at the extremities must be
terminated.

Daisy-chain the network wiring to

avoid network splits.

On all EIA-485 ports of the

MACH-Global controller
there are two EOL DIP switches
located to the right of the
network terminals. Toggle the
DIP switches down on the right
side to enable the EOL
terminating resistance.
