Q. 10. Investigate the effect of number of reheat stages on the performance of an ideal Rankine
cycle, the max and min pressure in the cycle are 15 MPa and 10kPa, and steam enters at all
stages of turbine at 500 deg C. For each stage pressure ratio is same, determine the thermal
efficiency of the cycle and plot it against number of reheat stages.

16. Investigate the effect of evaporator pressure on COP and power input and plot the COP
and Power Input as a function of evaporator pressure for a 100TR refrigeration plant with
R134a as refrigerant, to be installed in India having maximum environment 45 deg C, minimum
approach temperature of 5deg C for condenser, also plot the mass flow rate variation.
17. An absorption refrigeration system having capacity 5TR is design to maintain space at 5degC. while operating on an environment at 40 deg C, heat is to be supplied from a solar pond,
let the pond temperature vary from 80 deg to 300 degC . plot the minimum rate of heat
supplied as a function of source temperature and discuss the result.
18. The compressor of R134a refrigeration plant working between 140kPa, -10 deg C and leaves
at 1MPa. refrigerant enters the throttle valve at 0.95Mpa and 30 deg C, leaves evaporator
saturated vapour at -18.5 deg C. Investigate the effect of varying isentropic efficiency over the
range of 60-100% and compressor inlet volume flow rate of refrigerant is 0.1 to 1m 3/min, on
the power input and refrigeration rate (TR).
19. Investigate entropy change of air across the normal shock for up stream Mach Number 0.5
to 1.5 in increments of 0.1.
20. Investigate the effect of back pressure in the range of0.9 to 0.1 MPa on exit pressure exit
velocity and mass flow rate of an isentropic converging nozzle. Assume air inlet conditions such
as 900 kPa ,400 K with negligible velocity, constant throat area 10 cm2.
