Student in the SPOTLIGHT

Lions Club Student of the Month

Each month we recognize a Lions Club Student of the

Month. The student must be a senior, model for
others, and someone that has contributed to the high
school in a variety of ways. Kara Krupp was our
November Lions Club Student of the Month.

Congratulations Kara!

Student in the SPOTLIGHT

Grand Ledge High Schools Students of the Month

This year GLHS is proud to reintroduce a Student of

the Month Club! Each teacher gets an opportunity
to nominate one student who exemplifies Comet
PRIDE in his/her classes. Those students will be
honored at a breakfast at the end of each month.
November students of the month:
Kodie Wood, Logan Kroczaleski, Allyson Hunt,
Nathaniel Ethridge, Kailee Moran, Jamie Keating,
Isaac Baker, Madison Jones and Nick VanEpps.

Join us in celebrating all of the wonderful things going on at Grand Ledge High School

The student production of Grease turned out wonderfully! The shows were
sold out and left all audience members singing! Nice job to the cast, crew and
teachers who were a part of the production!
The high school QuizBowl team has been doing an amazing job so far this year!
They are quickly becoming one of the most competitive local teams!
Grand Ledge High School has successfully completed multiple safety drills thus
far. All drills have gone smoothly and students have done a great job
participating and taking the drills seriously.
Congratulations to all those student athletes that competed in sports this past
Fall! #proudtobeacomet
We currently have over 180 students with perfect attendance so far this school
year!
Our first trimester ACT Skills classes averaged a 3-point increase in their ACT
scores in just 12 weeks!
The Grand Ledge Wrestling Club with the amazing support of the community
raised over $1500 through a can drive on Sunday 11/23/14.
A group of GLHS teachers attended a conference on Friday to learn about
improving literacy among students. The Literacy Team will identify strategies
for improving literacy at GLHS and will lead their colleagues in implementing
effective strategies over the next few years.
GLHS had 628 students who did not receive one tardy during first trimester!
Five GLHS students (Saad Hasan, Jianxun Gao, Haonian Deng, Sisco Castillo-
Robles, and Jack Tan) attended a conference on international education at MSU
with Mrs. Pippin. They made up a panel of students representing first and
second generation immigrant families and were questioned by MSU professors,
local teachers, and graduate students. They did a phenomenal job - everyone
at the conference was very impressed by Grand Ledge High School, as our
students were the youngest and most insightful panel members!

Calculators for
Student Use

Juniors: State
Testing Update
This school year, the Michigan Merit
Exam has changed. 11th grade
students will still be completing
their ACT on March 3rd. The Work
Keys will be on March 4th. There will
be a delayed start (with times to be
determined) for 9th, 10th and 12th
graders on those days.

Students in Algebra 2 and above are expected

to have a graphing calculator. Students in
Algebra 1 or Geometry are expected to have a
scientific calculator. Calculators are available
to rent from the Math Help Room. Students
first need to complete the rental form and
have it signed by a parent/guardian, then
stop by room 315 to pick up the
calculator. Scientific calculators are available
to rent free of charge. Graphing calculators
require a $20 deposit and a $10 per trimester
rental fee. Rental forms are available outside
the door of room 315.

2015 Yearbook Sales

English & Reading, Math, Science,
and Social Studies. The test dates
will be determined sometime in the
future.

Program

Reminder for Drivers:

The Math Department is collecting

calculator packages, which can be
redeemed for new calculators.

flashing yellow. If the lights are red, you must
stop at least 20 feet away from the bus. The
only time you can keep driving by a bus with it's
red lights on, is if you are going in the opposite
direction on a highway with a physical barrier,
ie...grassy median, concrete barrier. etc.

Socktober Clothing Drive

The students in Ms. Bronsons
English 9A classes conducted
a clothing drive for the last
three weeks of October. All
clothing donated will be
distributed to Kens Coat
Closet, The Grand Ledge Food
Bank, and various other
charitable organizations that
provide clothing to the needy
in the Capitol Area. Items
that were brought in were
gently used or brand new
(such as socks and underwear).
Students filled three large trash
bags with winter coats, two copy paper boxes of brand new hats, gloves and scarfs,
two copy paper boxes of brand new socks, and six trash bags of gently used
clothing. With another long, and possible treacherous, winter ahead of us, Ms.
Bronsons students wanted to help clothe people and keep them warm in the
upcoming months. The drive was a success!
