Tough 2010 start for
Tunkhannock Twp.

2010 is going to be an inter-
esting year for Tunkhannock
Township. With revenues lower
by over $320,000, and expens-
es and debt higher, it is
remarkable that the township
has a balanced budget.
However, the budget done and
approved at the end of 2009
did not include any money for
roads repairs. At the reorgani-
zation meeting on January 4,
supervisors began a difficult
plan to fix that.
New supervisors George
Ewald and Bob Delese voted
to reopen the budget.
Supervisors voted to lay off
zoning officer Kate Lambert
and Public Works worker Tom
Kraft, and cut everyone left
back to working a 35-hour
week (from 40). Other savings
were found, including contract-
ing for sewage enforcement by
the hour, as needed, with

enjoyed them cold. These
weren’t cold, and they came
with plenty of butter and maple
syrup for topping. This break-
fast would have provided plen-
ty of energy for a day of out-
door work.
Our meals were ample as
well. Seth’s thick slices of
French toast filled the plate, a
beautiful crispy brown. He too
topped them with butter and
maple syrup. The corned beef
has was fantastic, with lots of
corned beef, more meat than
potato. It was rich and flavorful,
and cooked to an appealing
crisp.
My catfish was beautiful, a
medium-sized filet’s white and
orange set off against a dark
green lettuce leaf. The fish was
gently sautéed, and had a
mild, buttery flavor. A huge pile
of home fried potatoes with
onions filled the rest of the
plate. These were sliced and
fried to a golden brown. The
onions were thinly sliced and
crispy. I really didn’t need the
two slices of rye toast, so I
shared that with Seth.
We left by 9, confident we
wouldn’t’ need much lunch
after a breakfast like this. It
made getting up early almost
worth it!

perform at Silver Arrow Gallery on

until 4 p.m. This intertribal group
of experienced drummers repre-
sents five different nations –
Seminole, Mic Mac, Taino,
Apache and Tuscarora. They
play both Northern and Southern
style drumming. Northern style
drumming is a style that has the
singers at a very high pitch
